Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

I have recently had to clean install Vista Business and am installing all previous software. I upgraded Pinnacle Studio 9 to Avid Liquid 7 a couple of years ago and have since lost the original Pinnacle Studio 9 CD. When am installing Liquid 7, it asks for the original Pinnacle CD which I do not have. Pinnacle no longer supports Studio 9, doesn't make the CD's and doesn't have a location where it can be downloaded. I have the S9 software registered, all the old files that were installed in "Program files" but no registry information. How do I install an upgrade to software that I no longer have? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Follow these instructions:

    Download this patch.

Begin installing the full upgrade. Cancel the install when you are asked for the CD.
    Then run the patch.
Finally run the Setup 7.2 again.

Be aware that Liquid is not supported to run under Vista although it should be OK.

    LewS:

Followed your suggestion but the patch says verifying 5.x or 6.x Liquid and I am upgrading from Pinnacle Studio 9.

It still asks for the original Pinnacle Studio 9 CD even after the patch stated verification was completed successfully.

Make sure you followed the instructions exactly. This has worked for everyone who has tried it. Sorry, I can't help you further. This may be because you are installing under Vista. All I can suggest is you go onto ebay and find a copy of Studio 9 so you have the disc if this did not work.

I followed the instructions exactly. Began install, cancelled upon cd request, ran patch (successfully), restarted install and it still requests the Studio 9 cd. It must be Vista. I even had setup and the patch run under XP compatibility mode with no success. I will attemp to find Studio 9 on eBay and post my results for anyone else having my same issues. Thanks LewS for your assistance.

    mjolnarn:

I have followed all of the instructions to the letter. This is an absolute clean and updated install of Vista Buisiness Pro. I disabled internet, disabled firewall (KIS 2009), UAC was already disabled by me, setup on Liquid 7 (upgrade from Studio 9) was set to run in xp compatibility mode as was the patch that I downloaded from your post for "Manual install of Liquid in Vista...".

I run the setup for L7 and it requests the Studio 9 cd, I cancel the install, run the patch (which completes successfully), I then re-run the L7 install and it still asks for the Studio 9 cd.

I have all the old program files from my old system (not the install files but what was installed under Program Files). Studio 9 is there. Is it possible that it's looking for a specific file that I can drop on a cd and have it read that?

I have even registered that freakin software and still have the receipt, I just can't find the cd (that hasn't been used for 2 years). Pinnacle says they don't have it and I can't download it anywhere.

Am I just missing something? Thanks in advance.

I'm confused. If this is a clean install of Vista, how is Studio 9 under Program Files?

If you still need a Studio 9 cd, I have one that you can have for free (the original, not a copy.)

    That was my exact thought

Also, however that might have nothing to do with the licensing probs, there is nowhere in the install thread that it is said to run Liquid in XP compability mode.

edited...  I think that this might be one other prob, are you really using the full install 7,2 file and not something else ?

Re: Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

This PC ran XP prior to Vista. If you choose not to keep your original files and programs, Vista automatically creats a file on the C: drive that is labeled woindows.old. In this file are all of your program files as well as personal files and settings. I need only navigate to the folder to access them. It is, I assure you, a clean install. The program files that are on this PC for Vista are where they should be and are being utilized. The program files in C:/windows.old are inert files.

I went back and tried the reinstall without compatibility mode on the setup and the patch. Still wants S9 cd. This an upgrade cd. The jacket says "Serial Liquid7 UPGR Studio."

Am I supposed to download a full software install from Avid for L7 and use my key from the upgrade jacket? I appreciate all the responses here and hope that this thread helps someone else with the same issuse. Hopefully it's user error and will be resolved. SNL PC Tech..."MOOOOVE!"

This is not a clean install of Vista, how you prefer to do it is your business but you need a clean install, not an update, just to trash and reinstall.

The instructions in the install Vista thread is to be followed sentence by sentence and has worked for all other users assuming that you have a serial number for the version of Liquid that you have bought, that serial number should be used when installing the full install 7,2 file

Re: Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

I just wanted everyone to know that I have resolved my issues.

Thanks VERY MUCH to evangary who sent me original Studio 9 CD's to use for the Upgrade to Liquid 7 after having lost my originals.

I followed the onscreen instructions and used the S9 CD's when called for and the upgrade went off without incident.

Thanks to everyone else for their suggestions and time. Ultimately, I am not sure why the patch would not work.

In the end, I think that these software developers should abandon their Microsoftian approach to proprietary software and installation.

It just isn't a rational practice to retain software that is no longer made, supported, or used...but necessary to re-install an upgrade.

    JMHO. ~Thanks again to everyone!~
