    Montage themes

Hi there, Why does my Montage themes (any of them) when played in Studio 12 Ultimate miss a slide when played example a montage contains 4 picture slots, it should move from photo 1 through to photo 4 yet my one goes from 1 to 2 to 4. In every montage theme it always misses a photo. I have tried placing the theme on the timeline just to check with my own photos and it does the same thing. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Pinnacle has not been able to help on this other than say reinstall the whole S12 Ultimate using my upgrade disc which I didn't think was possible.

    Thanks

    George

    Why so?

    Re: Montage themes

Reason been is that if you can instal the whole S12 ultimate with an upgrade disc whats the purpose of buying the full S12 ultimate disc, isn't it cheaper to buy the upgrade disc than the full version disc?

    Re: Montage themes

That's correct. But don't you have a previous full version to install it with?

    Re: Montage themes

I have S10 studio plus. So I should uninstall S12 ultimate and reinstall S10 studio plus then upgrade using upgrade disc to S12 ultimate.

I will try that but if that doesn't work where do we go from there?

    Re: Montage themes

Uninstall all Pinnacle software. Then install the Studio 12 upgrade use the Studio 10 disc if a previous version is required. Follow the on screen instructions.

if that doesn't work where do we go from there?

Let's cross the bridge when we get there. Wink

    Re: Montage themes

Looks like we are going to have to cross that bridge.

Have uninstalled Studio 12 installed Studio 10 Plus upgraded to to 10.8 just in case then upgraded to S12 ultimate with upgrade disc then upgraded again to S12.1 and it still plays the same. The second Montage theme in Album takes 15.12 sec to scroll through which is too short for 4 slides therefore it skips one which happens to be slide 3. The funny thing is it plays like its meant to skip a slide there is no jerkiness between slide 2 and 4 to suggest there is a problem its smooth as. Now where do we go from here?

    Excuse me Marc.

It doesn't seem right, but that's the way montage works. Slide 1, 2 and 4. Mine is the same way. You can make the sequence as long as you desire by pulling the right edge to any length you desire.

    Re: Montage themes

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I had come to your conclusion but couldn't confirm it in any of the forums. Any idea why they would do this? It seems rather odd for the viewer to see 4 clips say on an album page but only see 3 of clips in the Montage. Does anyone from Pinnacle monitor these forums? I am rather new to the forum but have been using Pinnacle Studio for several years now.

I don't know why they would do that either.

Yes, there are some very good people from Pinnacle that monitor these forums and are very active in helping solve problems. Perhaps one will reply to your questions.

    Re: Montage themes

My theory is that the one Montage that people seem to complain about was designed as an "Introductory" effect to a slide show. It's called "Album - Opening". There isn't a transition for picture five to eight. Have a look at the other 3 Album Montage transitions. They all skip pictures. Two are called "Segue A" and "Segue B". The other is called "Ending".

    Re: Montage themes

My theory is that Pinnacle intended to make the screenshots scroll through each photo as I have been told that it could be a corrupt file/install and was requested to reinstall the whole program again. This means that Pinnacles version must work correctly on their end, the only problem is that there seems to be alot of people who have the same issue as me yet there is no help or solution from Pinnacle. This suggests that there is alot of faulty installation discs out there which don't allow this part of the program to work correctly.

If its meant to be like this then why would they make me reinstall the whole thing again. Why not just say this is how the program works. I think a fix should be in order or an exchange of discs. You pay money for programs to work not to stuff you around.

Marc, what is your take on this?

Welcome to first level Pinnacle support. Their answer to anything they don't understand is to re-install the program.

I've had personal experience of this in at least two cases, where in fact the problem has been a repeatable bug in the program. If you keep talking to first level support, they will keep telling you to reinstall, or try it on another computer.

If your theory is correct, then every single S12 disc and the download version is corrupt.

.....and why then does the "Opening" montage only pass by the first photos, but zooms in fully to the last drop zone?

I'll second what jjn is saying.  I've spent some time thrashing around inside of the files that Pinnacle uses to control Montage, and from what I can see, that the "skips a photo" behavior is definitely AS-DESIGNED.  You can reinstall until the cows come home, and this AS-DESIGNED behavior won't change.

    Jeff, Don and Bittman,

You are correct, it shows the same effect on my end. Shows my lack of experience in the montage themes. I'll see if I can find some answers about this.

    Regards,

I am 100% sure (ok make it 99.99%) that Jeff's theory, already confirmed by bittmann is correct and that the theme is working exactly as it is designed.

So IMHO there is nothing more to found out. Wink

Nothing really. Have been waiting on QA for confirmation but have not heard anything from them since. I'll make a follow today.
