Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

I wonder if anyone can help? I have a wireless PCTV To Go which is fresh out of the box but second-hand and I'm trying for a wired installation.

However, the Wizard cannot locate the device on my network. Very frustrating. At start-up, all the front LED lights on the unit are initially coming on in the correct sequence with the two far right ones then remaining illuminated with a steady glow, the ethernet LED on the back connecting cable socket winking merrily away and at the other end the router socket LED for the cable from the PCTV TO Go is also indicating that there is a connection. I have tried tried unit and network power cycles and a factory reset. I'm running Vista as the OS. The wireless aerial on the laptop has been switched off through the button.

I have also, I think, accessed all the relevant FAQs in Pinnacle support and I think followed what advice is there. Maybe however I've missed out on something.....hence this posting!

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

This doesn't answer your question directly but...

Can you connect wirelessly?  It is quite possible that a wireless connection will at worst allow you to troubleshoot the unit (you can see, from the "Advanced" wizard tab, what IP address your unit is being assigned by your router).

I'm wondering if this is a simple "firewall" type issue, myself.

Have you done a "full" factory reset?  Just pushing the little button isn't good enough--you have to let the machine boot, and then hold down the button until all of the lights come on.

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

Thanks for your advice Bittmann. However I can't seem to connect wirelessly either and also I've checked that both the MS Windows and McAfee firewalls are off.

However, let's go over the full factory reset operation again. I power up the unit and it goes through the LED boot sequence and, at the end, the two far right LEDs are on. Following the advice of the Pinnacle FAQ,  I leave the unit for 4 minutes in total - even though the boot up only lasts for about 52  seconds  I then put the toothpick into the reset hole and - holding it there - I wait until all the lights are lit up at once and stay lit, then they turn off (apart from the extreme far right one) and the reboot sequence starts over again. At the end of this, with the two far right-hand LEDs lit, I remove the toothpick. Now this is where I'm slightly confused: According to my interpretation of the official FAQ, after about one minute the PCTV To Go should automatically start another reboot. If that's the case, it's just not happening with my unit.

I've now also removed the firewall on my Netgear router. By the way, I've noticed that the PCTV To Go's MAC does appear as an attached device under the Netgear router manager. Why can't the PCTV TO GO wizard therefore recognise it?!

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

Well, dunno.  You're doing everything right (actually, once the 4 LEDs come on during the reset, you can remove the toothpick at that point and simply wait for the unit to restart).

At that point, you should be able to connect to the device.  Since you're not able to do so, I guess I don't know what to think.  Huh?

Firewall off on the router?  OK -- how about on your PC?

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

The good news is that I've managed to progress! I removed and re-installed the wizard and player software. I guess a problem in that area was the causee. Anyway, I then made some progress until I came to a halt again with a "Remote Viewing Configuration Problem" . By the way, I've carried out another factory reset but there was no joy.I've previously upgraded the firmware and meged the registry patch. I also removed the router firewall. Would you have any advice on this one? Many thanks..

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

I don't know this for certain, but it SEEMS that the Hava folks have changed the remote viewing server configuration.   Have to ask the Pinnacle folks if their wizard will work as-is, or if something needs to be changed to allow the new remote server configuration to work, I guess.  You've read this thread?  Don't know if it applies, here, but it might.

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

I understand. I've since been in touch with Pinnacle support. Here's the text of my message:I have progressed through the Setup Wizard but have come up against a "Remote Viewing Problem" when configuring for remote viewing . My PC has a working connection to my ISP. I guess that the Remote Viewing Server is not currently down (I've retried over a number of days) so that only leaves the reason that the PCTV To Go is not itself connected to the Internet. To be honest, I'm not sure if I therefore have the right settings on the router. Could you please run nthrough - in simple terms - what I should be checking - or are there any readings from the advanced information mode on the PCTV To Go Setup Wizard that I can give you that would be helpful in your diagnosis of this problem?. I have a Netgear router unit. With respect, please don't send me the latest FAQ on the server side because I have already read that and installed the latest firmware (and cross-checked this on the advanced settings); I've undertaken a reset to factory defaults; and I've downloaded the registry patch and merged it. Many thanks for any help you can give."

Re: Wizard could not locate PCTV to Go Device

Just a concluding updateBig Smile. I finally got the matter sorted thanks to the help of TechSupport over in the "Please Help" HAVA support forum. I upgraded my 1.7 software very smoothly to Hava 1.8 (Gold) and everything now works perfectly!  http://myhava.com/support_downloads_hava_gold.html
