I have a 30 minute movie that I want to be in .avit format. I am trying to create on an external hard drive that is formated as NTFS, not FAT. Have tried several times and the make movie features stops or locks up around 18 minutes. I was able to make a.mpg and a DVD.

Try making the movie in the "safe" mode. This will allow you to make a Video_TS file. If that completes, then do a "burn from previous file" and direct where the video_ts file was saved.

Let us know how this works.

Have you tried creating this file to your C: drive ?

I have tried to local d drive with no luck either. Space is too tight on c drive. I have all my render files etc go to external or d drive.

Just a thought, to bump this along.

Your free space on the C: drive is in fact rather tight. 7% free isn't even enough room to allow Windows to defrag . (?) I'm wondering if you had more room on your C: drive if the file would render.

I understand that you are rendering to external as well as pointing your aux files there. The Studio program may still be screaming for a little bit more breathing room. Just a thought...........

Also, have you deleted your auxillary files ? Look inside the render folder and manually delete the folders from within.  

7% is no problem to defrag with the new hard drives. Talked to Windows tech support and as long as there is 2-3gig you can easily defrag-just takes ages to defrag a large drive.

Yes I have deleted the aux files. I am going to defrag tonight and see what happens.
