    Sony EX3 workflow?

    G'day Guys

I have took the plunge and have ordered a Sony EX3.

Now I will be using the Sony clip browser to bring in the .mxf files, I know I have to have the timeline set before to the same type as what I record

on the camera so the timeline does not render.

However most of my clients still want SD DVD's, and I must have a iMpeg 50Mbs timeline to deliver my TV commercials to Omneon.

Would I be best to edit the EX3 .mxf files native, then convert the timelines to what I need as the final product, or use a timeline I want to end on and

let the .mxf files render out on the timeline before I start cutting?

    Thanks

Hi Mark, a nice cam that one.

As knowing nothing about the workflows for that cam except for what I have been reading, I do have some codec tips for your timeline that might be useful

Thomas Smetvid has been working with bringing more codecs into Liquid and succeded rather well, the fused files out from them aren´t supported by all other apps but, for example, adobe CS3 mediaencoder is supporting those codecs.

The patch should work even with Crome I think, link is here , might be worth a try .

    Re: Sony EX3 workflow?

    Hello,

I am using the JVC GY110 camera so while its not the same I also often deliver SD DVD's and SD masters for broadcast and customers.

Personally I keep everything native, rendering to Uncompressed and then simply output to whatever format. SD-DVD's made from my HD timeline are brilliant. One of the nice features, IMO, is the ability to make a copy of the  TL and make many different render formats for outputting different versions.

Nice to hear you are working with Omneon, I really like them and had one of the first Omneon systems in Germany while working at FAST. We had made awesome progress at integrating Omneon and FAST, unfortunately due to competing products when we were acquired by Pinnacle that relationship ended...and look at how well Apple and Omneon have since done together...

    Ces La Vie.

...that would be a great feature for NextGen, a Batch output engine so that a single TL could be exported to several different formats with one export. Pro-Coder from Canopus/GrassValley has this, as I'm sure other apps do as well.
