    looking for simple transition

Sometimes I find myself looking for ages for apparently simple transitions, and never find them in the presets.

This time I would like to have a "sliding doors" transition, much like the existing "barn doors" but where the B video does not appear split across 2 closing (rotating) doors, but more simply 2 sliding doors (or halves if you like).

How can this be accomplished simply for a title (to appear as two halves sliding from the left & right edges to the center, covering the background video) ? With simple, I mean is there a ready-to-go thing for this or do I have to create or customize a HFX transition for this ?

    Tx

Maybe Classic Transition FX -> Presets -> 1520 is what you are looking for ?

    Re: looking for simple transition

In the Hollywood FX transitions>Doors there is a barn door that opens out.  This can be reversed.  There is also a barn door that opens in.  The effect is somewhat different between the two because opening in makes the doors smaller.  Opening out keeps the screen full.

What is this one word at a time posing posting about?

    Re: looking for simple transition

I think you can do this fairly easily using the 2D editor, with the A video on one track and the B video split on two more tracks.  You will probably want to use key frames and cropping.

    Re: looking for simple transition

I apologize.  Either my computer or the site does that.  I have been told that it is a glitch in the site but I am not so sure.  I was trying to say that I understand that it is not the doors that are wanted, just a slide across from both sides.  There is such a transition in the S9 Standard transitions but I am unable to find a folder for the Standard Transitions.  If there were such a folder it might be possible for Liquid to access it.

If a person really needed such a transition and had S9 on his computer he could put the title and clips in S9 and make an avi for use in Liquid.  But that seems a lot of work.

I deleted the repeated posts. This is a forum bug.

    Re: looking for simple transition

Have you taken a look at Déclic Vidéo? There are hundreds of free HFX transitions available, just click on the Hollywood FX tab maybe someone has uploaded what you are looking for. The site is in English and French.

No doubt there are 1000 ways to do this, but I wanted to be sure I didn't overlooked something really simple..

With simple, I mean is there a ready-to-go thing

I'll have a look at the Déclic Vidéo thing

    Thanks all

    Re: looking for simple transition

The answer to this is probably "No", but is there any way for Liquid to access the Alpha Magic transitions in Studio9?

    Re: looking for simple transition

All those transitions are already in Liquid, AFAIK. Look under both RT Transitions and Classic Transitions for Gradient Wipes.

    Re: looking for simple transition

Thank you, Lew.  It may be another day or two before I can actually look for them.

    Re: looking for simple transition

The alpha magic transitions (as gradient wipes) are in the location given.  However, I tried to add the sliding barn doors between a couple of clips and got the notice "Type of replacement clip not matched."  I don't know what that means.  The adjacent clips were trimmed to allow 4 seconds for the transition.

    Re: looking for simple transition

I still don't know what the warning means,  However, it accurred to me that maybe the two clips should be overlapped on two different tracks so I went to the overwrite mode, placed the incoming clip above the outgoing clip and dragged the wipe to the upper clip.  Works like a charm.  The incoming clip is revealed thru sliding doors, as BenoitM requested.  The doors can be made to slide in either directions in the wipe editor.

    Re: looking for simple transition

    "Works like a charm."

Not really.  Here is what happens.  First clip A is on main track.  Second clip B on track above, overlapped.  The FX was saved to the library.  When the FX is dragged to the upper clip, the following happens:  The upper clip shows a frame as soon as the scrubber hits the edge of the transition.  Then the sliding doors show the lower clip coming in over the upper clip.  When the transition is completed, the lower clip pops out of view and the upper clip shows.

I tried different placement of the clips and adding the transition to lower rather than upper, etc., but the transition only appears as outlined above, working incorrectly.

    I am missing something here.

    Re: looking for simple transition

I found out the problem.  The keyframe interpolation was set from 100 to 0.  It should have been from 0 to 100.  I dragged the graph ends to the correct settings and the transition works properly.
