    Editing a Transition

    Greetings all,

Before I made this thread, I did a search to see if anything of relevance would come up. So...I had Studio 9 Plus some time ago, I got this Transition called Photo Shot in the HFX package under video and film. I just got 11 plus ( i know, i'm already behind it seems) and I just purchased that same package with that transition. problem is...they are waaaaaaay different. I try going into edit, but all i can get to is edit the flash. big deal! There's a white box, that was supposed to transition "A" into a photo with "B" background. But this white square won't take a snap shot from "A". I even tried a pic grab, thinking it needed a source pic from the footage i was using. Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mick

    Re: Editing a Transition

I looked at my copies in S9 and S11 and they both do exactly the same thing the way they are supposed to.

The white square  is supposed to simulate the flash, there is no picture associated with it. The A and B pics come from your timeline when you put the transition between two videos or stills. So you would not want to edit those anyway.

Your editor should look something like this picture, which is roughly 3/4 of the way through the flash portion

    Joe,

Thanks soo much for looking into this. If what your saying is true...then i have a fault somewhere. I'll make a small vid so you can see my issue.

As it stands...i was going from a video clip into a still, using that transition between.  Just as i have when i used S9.

And by looking at your editing photo you posted (which i really do appreciate, thank you) i don't get that much editing choices at all.

Again, i can't thank you enough for your time. I'll will get a screenie of the editing tool that comes up and a small vid.

    Re: Editing a Transition

I looked at both of your links. It's hard to make out but it looks like you have the Hollywood FX Basic version which is not going to give you the editing options that the Mega version will. Actually, you may not be able to do any editing at all.

Looking at the fx tree in the lower left corner, I only see Host Video1 and Host Video 2. There isn't a separate Flash frame.

Since it worked for you in S9 it's possible that your S11 version is corrupted. Below is a link to a copy of my BAS-Photo Shot. I renamed it to Photo Shot 2. It's a self-installing file and should go into the same folder as the current one.

    BAS-Photo Shot 2

Download it, double-click on it to install it. It may not show up in the transitions album so you'll have to add the old transition to the timeline, then double-click it to get into the editor. From there you can change to this new transition and then exit back to the timeline.

Also, in looking at your video, it looks like you could do this effect without the transition. You're going from a video to a still shot of the last frame of the video. You could add just a blank white title that's a few frames long to simulate the flash. If, for some reason, the effect I sent you doesn't work, it's an option to consider.

Let me know how this works out for you.

    Joe,

I can't thank you enough for all this help!!!  I'm going to get to work on this right away!!

I didn't think about the white flash...good call!  However the whole reason i was going thru this whole ordeal...was to eventually..use that transition...then go into the transition the takes the screen into a book and fly off.

I thought it would be a great ending to the wedding vid.

And i will be sure to let you know how all this goes!

    again..thank you!

    Re: Editing a Transition

Well, i just got it dl'd and it works great!! That self installer was a big help.

Now, I see what you mean about the transistion and the simulated flash.

So, I'm working with that now.
