    Red slices...

    Hello,

All the sudden I have a few seq that refuse to render and just go to a Red slice. this all started sometime after I changed display drivers to get better playback from footage shoot on a new JVC-HD7 which has worked intermitently itself.

The clips that will not render seem to always have Classic FX's on them, and the RT effects go Yellow and then stay there, even with "Render Yellow Slices" selected.

Clearly I am guessing it is the display drivers. What I am wondering is if anyone has seen this before and knows of a solution and what to do to make the Footage from the HD7 play back smooth.

this is on a HP w8200 with ATI Radeon gfx card Chrome XE

    Danke

    Re: Red slices...

There's a known bug where yellow slices render but the slice marker doesn't change. This is a GUI problem only; the slices do indeed render (assuming that this is indeed a manifestation of the older problem).

For the other problem,  try deleting all of the old render files and then re-rendering.

if this is the cause, disable preview of one of the tracks en enable it then again (press the little TV icon on the track header to accomplish this). It will reset the GUI and the slices will turn green.

    Re: Red slices...

here is a little more info and maybe even a better way of discribing what is going on.

If I take a clip and place it on the Timeline, no effects of any type, and export it as a FUSE or a DVD all works perfectly.

If I take the exact same clip, on the same Timeline and ad a Fade up, (or any other effect)  and try to export it, the export fails and I get a "Warning export failed... TC... ETC"  and it always fails at the first frame of the clip. after it fails and then comes back to the timeline, all slices turn either Red and get a the big !  or turn Yellow.  The Yellow clips do play, the Red ones (all with Classic FX's & Timewarps)  go RED.

When I restart the App, its back to normal but no matter what I try when Exporting, it fails.

Guess the next thing I'll try is a reinstall. I have two films that must be entered into festivals by the weekend and have not had the time to really sit at Liquid and de-bug so I'm not sure exactly when this started, nor how I got around it before.

Again I am running the new DX10 patch and XP-SP3

    Brad,

When you say "reinstall", do you mean to simply reinstall over itself, or did you do it the hard way (uninstall, delete render files, regclean, etc.)?

    Re: Red slices...

Hey Brad, its good to hear that even the pinnacle gurus have liquid problems. Interestingly enough, I am having the exact same problem on one of the systems at the Oakland Raiders, and it all started after I upgraded to the DX10 patch! (Re: ProBox Issue?) I am scheduled to go there tomorrow or Friday so I have the same question as VE7AXO, that is, what exactly did you reinstall? What was your procedure? This would be a great help.

    Thnx

    Roland

Hello Roland,  Great to hear from you.

I did the oldest trick in the book, simply reinstall right over the top. Ali Adelstien, the softwares GodFather would get all wild when he would see someone wasting time "uninstalling" I can hear him now. While clearly things have changed in the code over the years, Ali always swore that uninstalling was a huge waste of time and one was better off to just install right over the top.

    hope it helps,
    B
