ive got this error message on pinnacle studios - a valid input signal has not been detected. please check your wires.

i have looked at the faq about this error message and done everything possible on it...but to no avail.

 

i tried 2 different wirings:

1) in the back of the TV i put xbox wires (red/white/yellow) in the input and a double ended a/v cable in the output/monitor and into dazzle as videos had shown me, this didnt work.

2) then i tried putting y adapters in the dazzle and tried that wiring that way but it didnt work either... (the way where u put both xbox and the double ended a/v cable into the dazzle)

ive checked the settings on pinnacle studios and im 100% sure theyre correct as per your faq said -- PAL setting for UK television, dazzle 100 source etc.

i used y-adapters instead of a/v splitters, the only thing i can possibly think of is that y-adapters are different from a/v splitters (hence method 2 didnt work) and my tv output doesnt work (so method 1 didnt work)?
if my "phono y-adapters" are different to a/v splitters do you think buying a/v splitters would fix it?

• im using studio 11 (stupid that i get the old version even though i just bought dazzle, and studio 12 is out?)
• im using windows XP (service pack 3 i think)
• i bought Dazzle Video Creator Platinum & installed both the install disc and bonus content

i found this quite strange, what ive done is:

 

put 1 y-adapter into the television, in the yellow slot.

 into one side i plugged the yellow socket from the xbox lead, and the white/red lead from the double a/v cable... this works and let me record but in black n white no colour.... strangely enough the yellow cable on the double a/v cable doesnt work at all...

this would be fine in black and white to be honest but the problem is it makes my actual television a little blurry

I don't have this equipment, but if I understand correctly, you are trying to view your xbox on your tv at the same time you are feeding the video to your dazzle and then to the computer.

There are only minor differences between the video splitter and the Y adapter cables. The splitter is a hard wire direct connection. The Y cable is hard wire splitter except it goes through a shielded cable, which may or may not be 75 ohms. Normally, either will work ok.

To trouble shoot, I would first connect the xbox directly to the tv with a yellow cable. You must see a picture on your tv before going further. If you don't, it could be that your yellow cable is defective, or you don't have the correct input selected on your tv. The picture should be in color. When you get a picture on the tv, unplug the yellow cable from the xbox and plug in the splitter, then plug the yellow cable into the splitter. You should still have your picture on the tv. If not, perhaps the splitter is defective. When you get a picture on the tv through the splitter, connect another yellow cable from the second output of the splitter and connect it to the dazzle. You shouldn't loose the picture on the tv. There might possibly be a change in brightness on the tv due to the double termination of the xbox. There is a possibility that double terminating the xbox could cause the output to fail. If this is the case, you won't be able to use a passive splitter on the output of the xbox. You would have to go to an active video distribution amplifier.

The Xbox 360 PAL outputs PAL signals in 60Hz. The DVC 100 cannot cope with 60Hz hence the black and white image. Try to set it in 50Hz and try capturing the dashboard, im sure it will come out in colour. This has been an issue with the current Dazzle line up. What you might need is an older generation Platinum Dazzle. The DVC 170 (The silver one). Those can capture PAL 60Hz.

well xbox wont run in Pal 50Hz (or at least my game wont) =/ so i cant really do that..

A passive filter, such as the Y splitter, only has hardwire connections. If you connect it to your xbox and then connect to two other devices, it will double terminate the xbox. Each device has a 75 ohm input impedance. An active filter has an amplifier between the input and the outputs. Each output is independent from each other, therefore doesn't double terminate the output of the xbox. These devices require some type of power to operate.

yeah that seems to be the case with the double termination, do u think having the active filter will make it work? even though the other guy seems to think it shouldnt work properly with pal 60hz tv anyway?

Can't be 100% positive, but, if when you have everything connected, Y splitter to the xbox, one cable to the TV and one cable to the dazzle, and you get no picture on the TV. If, when you remove the cable going from the splitter to the xbox, the picture on the tv returns, it's a good possibility. Try keeping both cables connected to the Y splitter and remove the cable at the xbox end only. If the picture returns on the TV, there's even a better chance the double termination has caused a problem. If the picture doesn't return on the TV, then the yellow cable you are using to connect from the Y splitter to the xbox is most likely defective. Try another one.

thanks a lot, i found a video on youtube finding a way around my problem (i can now record in colour) but theres still some interference which i believe is from the y-splitter so ill try buying one of the active filters,

hey sorry it took me a while to reply ive had internet problems, all from my ISP i might add and not myself :D

 

anyway, here are the 2 youtube links which basically say the same thing, it allows you to record using dazzle with pal 60hz tv

basically what u need to do is:

• open windows movie maker
• go to capture -> config and choose NTSC_433
• then click next next next until u see the preview screen
• at the moment a black and white preview will be displayed.
• open AMCap (downloadable from google) and choose the setting SECAM_B
• an error message will display saying already in use or some such... just close the AMCap after this
• voila you can record in colour on windows movie maker

 

i hope this works for everyone else :D strange way of doing it but it worked for me

Ah, anyone up for testing. I don't have any access to a PAL 60 device. Pinning this up. Thanks for sharing it with us despite of your ISP problems.

When i try this, WMM always crashes as soon as I click Capture. But then when I take the dazzle USB out, it goes back to normal??

The Dazzle will not work with Windows Movie Maker.

Has anyone been able to find a solution for recording PAL 60Hz using the Video Capture for Mac? Obviuosly there is no Windows Movie Maker on my Macbook.

I have tried this BUT i don't even get the option capture on my Windrows movie maker so.. Anyone know what i can do?

additional notes i have found out needed to make my solution work:

 

1) make sure you have the latest version of windows movie maker and the relevant updates for it

 

 2) make sure you have the latest drivers for your cap card.. these 2 are good (for DVC 100 at least)

3) i have heard that any dazzle over 100 doesnt work with windows movie maker... so 90, 100 etc should all work with this method -- i believe this is because versions newer than 100 record in a format that WMM doesnt support, whereas 100 and under record in AVI?

 

 

edit: in reply to someone who said WMM crashes, try updating the cap card drivers using the links i provided.. this fixed the crashes for me

Because I dont justify spending money on a capture device that doesnt work with PAL 60Hz!

I am using a Pinnacle Studio Movie Box HD, and Windows 7, will this still work with Windows Live Movie Maker? That's the only version of WMM for Windows 7.
