Quicktime Export not working

    Quicktime Export not working

I can export to all formats except Quicktime.  It simply bails immediately without an error message.

The last time this happened to me, I was told that the only way to fix it is to uninstall Liquid and uninstall Quicktime and then reinstall Liquid using the install Quicktime during Liquid install.

This problem is caused during install if you tell Liquid not to install Quicktime because it is already installed.

I crashed my whole system and had to redo all software.  Forgetting this Quicktime idiosyncracy, I've done it again.

Before I take a lot of time to reinstall Liquid, and the upgrade, and Quicktime and upgrade,

Is there anyway to make the Quicktime export feature work in Liquid without a time consuming total uninstall/reinstall procedure?

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

That should work. That is the version I am using. Try installing Liquid over itself and see if that fixes it.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

If the reinstall does not help, did you maybe change some of the presets from your quicktime export ? This can sometimes cause crashes. The options are comming from Quicktime itself, not Liquid and they might give problems sometimes.

When installing Liquid over itself, do I install the older version of Quicktime included over the newer version?

I tried all the presets and none work.  thanks.

Try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it. This is beginning to sound like a Quicktime issue.

Do you have the Avid DNxHD codec installed?  This is one of the problems it can cause.  Uninstalling that codec package should fix things.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

A quick solution rather than tearing your hair out might be to use the very good (did I mention Free) programme called Mpeg_Streamclip. Does files in a batch as well. I find it faster than Liquid for conversion and easier, since I can point it at a bunch of AVI files and tell it to convert them to Apple DVC Pro Pal format. (or any other QT codec you have on your system)

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

Thanks for the suggestion.  I have spent several hours and uninstalled and reinstalled Liquid and Quicktime more than once but the problem still exists.  As a work around, I export an .avi file and use Premiere CS3 or Sony Vegas 8 to export to Quicktime formats (these work perfectly).  It's just a couple of extra steps for me to get a QT file.  I wish my Liquid would do what it says it can do.  I upgraded QT to the lastest version 7.5.1 and no success.  I checked the Legacy Codecs option as well in QT.  I know that Liquid recognizes QT because when I uninstalled QT, Liquid removed the option from the menu and when I reinstalled QT, Liquid had the QT option on the menu again.  But it simply will not work.  And no error message either.

You didn't say earlier whether you have that installed or not.   It's important to whether QT export from Liquid will work.

Max, you might try some customized settings in Quicktime as in the snapshot if you haven´t already tried that.

Also, try with installing the quicktime drivers once again as described here, I missed this thread.

You don't.  You uninstall that Avid codec package which you installed to get the DNxHD codec to start with.  How did you get it in the first place?  I'm going to guess you downloaded and installed "Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 1.80."  If not, then how did you end up with that codec on your machine?

Do you have Media Composer or any other Avid software which might also have an installer for that package?  There are two different packages.  There's one which anyone can download and install (it's the one with "LE" in the name).  Then there's the other which is part of an Avid NLE install (that one has "PE" in the name).

I had the same trouble with Liquid's QT export when I had the LE package installed and so did other people.  See here.  Now that I have Media Composer (which installs the PE codec package), I don't have any problem with Liquid's QT export.

So, as I've said you need to uninstall that Avid codec package and Liquid's QT export should be back to normal.  If you're dead-set on using the Avid codecs without an Avid NLE, you'll have to figure out some other way to get Liquid to export QT properly again.  I think you're much better off uninstalling the codec package instead of monkeying around with all sorts of settings which in the end may not help at all.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

Thanks for clarifying that, Scott.  Some time ago, I installed Avid Express 5HD for about two weeks, and then removed it from the machine.  Is it possible that it left some codecs behind that were not removed by the uninstall?  I'll try to find those codecs and delete them.

    Thanks,

    Max

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

    Max,

It's possible you have something left from that earlier install.  When I had the codecs installed before I had MC, all I had to do was uninstall the codec package and things were fine again in Liquid.  Install it - problems.  Uninstall it - no problems.  Install again - problems.  Uninstall again - no problems.  It was perfectly repeatable.

Since I've had both Liquid and MC, I've had no problems exporting with QT in either application.  There may be more going on in your situation than any of us know yet, such as registry problems or other forms of "corruption" or similar things.  Getting rid of that codec package would be the first thing I'd do, knowing what it can do to Liquid's QT export.  Once you know all that's gone for sure, then you can try other things if the export problem isn't fixed.  I don't think it makes sense to try other things first if there's a chance that codec package is still around the system somewhere.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

Save all your data, wipe out your XP partition, reinstall XP up to at least SP2 and reinstall Liquid. This is not a Liquid issue and you are going to waste a lot of time trying to fix a compromised install of XP.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

I got a new computer.  It's a clean XP SP2 slate.  I installed Quicktime (7.5) and installed Liquid 7.2.  Never had any other Avid software on it.  The Avid Codecs do not show up on the QT export menu.  Still have the same problem.  I don't get it.  I did the install QT codecs as well as Thomas suggested.  No dice.  Puzzled.  Now that I have the new computer, I will wipe the old one and rebuild it to see if it changes anything but not looking good.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

When you rebuild the old system, just install XP SP2 and Liquid. Don't install Quicktime or anything else. Liquid will install a version of QT that's known to work. Check that out first. If you can export to QT with that, then image your system and install the latest version of QT. See if you can still export. If yes, then you're fine. If not, restore the image.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

I will try that.  But previously, when I did a Liquid reinstall, I uninstalled Quicktime first thinking Liquid would do this.  But on the Liquid reinstall with no quicktime on the PC, Liquid did not ask me if I wanted to install Quicktime.  Why not?

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

The Liquid install should install QT on it's own. It doesn't prompt for it, it just installs it.

    Re: Quicktime Export not working

Success.  The only way that Liquid will export to Quicktime is if you install Liquid before installing Quicktime.  If you try to uninstall Quicktime and then reinstall Liquid it will not work unless you manually remove all Apple and QUicktime folders left behind by the uninstall process AS WELL AS EDIT THE REGISTRY FILE AND MANUALLY REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO QUICKTIME AND APPLE.
