Running Beta .6480 and all is well. Upgraded to SFP5 and Smartsound still works in S12 Beta.

Just a side note... SFP 5 is an awesome program! The possibilities are endless with what you can do with the music. Amazing program! 

As I suggested some weeks ago now, this thread would come to a grinding halt with no answers and no results. It appears there will be no information from Avid / Pinnacle and Ian, I don't think you have a had a 'call back' for sometime unless I missed something along the way?

Does anyone know anything about the future of Smartsound in Studio?

If I remember correctly it has already been determined the current patch being evaluated now will still have support for Smartsound... after that??????

 I have no news from Smartsound or anyone else, the last infor I had from Sharon Morgan was posted earlier, to be honest I am pretty sure from reading between the lines that it is mostly down to Avid.

AVID - DO YOU HAVE AN UPDATE FOR US?

This issue has not gone away, nor will we allow it to. Time has been given to allow negotiations to take place between Avid and Smartsound, sometimes these negotiations can take many weeks to conclude depending on the underlying problem, availability of decision makers, multiple solutions to discuss etc. If 12.1 retains Smartsound support then this thread has certainly achieved a good result, however until that beta is over we won't be completely sure unless Avid has the decency to let us know the situation.

Thanks to everyone who is keeping this thread alive.  I continue to check in on a regular basis, but haven't had anything new to say lately.

The 12.1 beta is supporting SmartSound, but Avid wouldn't even guarantee that the 12.1 release would support it.  So the production release of 12.1 will be the first test.

Meanwhile, we will continue to hold their feet to the fire and ask for a firm statement of intent.

All I want to know ( and everyone else who has commented on this thread) is will Smartsound be available to use in Version 12 and its associated patches or is it to be 'killed off' by the update patches in the near future?

When it comes down to it it is either a yes or no answer, how long does it take to sort that problem out? this thread has been ongoing since AUGUST 12TH. The lack of comment from AVID to me indicates only one thing.

By all means keep posting away to keep the pressure on but please don't include everyone as sharing your opinion. "Reading between the lines" is an entirely subjective point of view. If you go back the the earlier part of this thread you might see that Avid/Pinnacle have at times been more informative and upfront than Smartsounds on this issue.

It could be "you have to pay a small licencing fee subject to negotiations".

The lack of comment from AVID to me indicates only one thing.

To me, it only says that have nothing further to say at this moment in time.

John - you are as entitled to express your opinion as anyone else. My "grumpiness" is because you implied that everyone else agreed with your black and white view of the situation.

I'm not convinced that Pinnacle are the guys in the black hats and Smartsounds the guys in the white hats. That's not to say they shouldn't keep us up to date.

Here are the facts as I understand it;

1) Pinnacle stated they were going to drop Smartsound from studio.

2) Several of us e-mailed Smartsound, they stated that the decision was all Pinnacle to pull the plug. No reasons were given as to why.

3) In one posting, Pinnicle software development stated they did not want to see it removed. The still were in favor of having it in Studio, but the decision was made. At that time it sounded like upper management was the one that made the decision.

4) Pinnacle later posted after a lot of cattle poking, that it was a contract issue.

5) Both Pinnacle and Smartsound has gone totally quite on this subject with no hits as to what's happing.

6) Pinnacle still has the interface in the beta patch.

These are the verifiable facts as I see them, any body seen anything else?

The tea leaves in my tea-cup, which I've been reading. They tell me that SmartSound functionality will continue to be available until the next Version of Pinnacle Video Editing Software (Nextgen, which will be a combination of a reduced functionality LE2 & an increased functionality  Studio). By that time, Pinnacle will have developed Scorefitter, along the lines already Posted by Jon RT in this Thread & at a reduced cost to Pinnacle, than providing SmartSounds.

While I can understand Pinnacle wanting to Scorefitter to succeed, but Scorefitter right now just plan "sucks". The music selection and quality are not anywhere near what is offered by Smartsound.

That is why I have SonicFire Pro 5, which is a wonderful program.

As for NextGen, I would think that it would have to be competitive with what is out there already (Premiere, Edius, Vegas, etc). I look at what Studio Ultimate offers and can only think that NextGen will offer a lot more. No, it won't compete with Avid Media Composer (as Liquid does now), but it should be very very competitive with other programs out there.

No, it certainly isn't!

The next important date will be when the Beta patch becomes the release patch. If that still supports Smartsounds, then perhaps some progress is being made.

They are on the third release, which doesn't say beta in the title bar, although they are saying it isn't the final build.

There seems to have been lots of successful fixes, but I can only guess at another two weeks or so.

And to add to what jjn posted, Smartsound still works in the latest (3rd) beta build. I would think that when they release the final (and probably the last update for S12), that Smartsound will work with it as it already has. The next revision (S13? Unlucky number.... maybe NextGen Lite) I would think would be the determining factor.

Nothing has been done with Scorefitter. Cheezy sound. Limited selection. SFPro 5 is a totally AWESOME program. Much better than v4.5 (I have used is since v2.x). The only thing is, it is not a plug in but a wonderful standalone program.

I still want my Smartsound! 

Owned SFPro4.5 and as such got a free update to v5.

I'm really happy with it, marvellous standalone program I'd call it. 

To Avid once again: Please keep alive the plugin version of it.

For those who invested lots of money in Smartsound music CD's the plugin is a must, even with a better Scorefitter and with a greater  music selection for it,

So just to keep this thread on simmer, has anyone heard if the question is going to be answered any time soon?
