There are free programs like Camstudio or programs you can buy that will generally give you better results and more options as far as final output. Camtasia Studio is one that will output many formats but it's realtively expensive.Techsmith, the company that makes Camtasia also make a program called Snag-It that can capture short videos.

Instant Demo is another one but I believe that will output only Flash and avi.

That should give you a start. Confused

Re: How to capture what is on my computer monitor?

I do this everyday for work.  I do live broadcasting for distance learning here and I capture my Presenter via the 710 directly to my hard drive, and I run the Presenter's presentation powerpoint through a scan converter that outputs a composite video signal. I take the output of the scan converter into the video in on a DVD recorder and loop the audio from the sound system into the l&r inputs on the DVD recorder. I import the DVD and edit. This allows me to synch the laptop (powerpoint) video to the Presenter (live Camera) video in the edit. I  do a dual pip of the Presenter and slides with titling overlay; drop out the B roll audio (it is redundant); for an archival copy of the live programing. Works slicker than penguins sliding on ice.

You would only need to output the scan converter video into your capture box/card of choice.  Then you edit and do your voiceover and titling overlays.

    Cheers
