    encrypted/secure VHS videos

    Hi,

I'm new here so , Good morning.

I'm trying to capture a couple of company videos that I've the ok to do for training purposes.  Am having a great deal of trouble.  When playing on a VHS recorder to the tv it's ok, plays fine.  When I try and capture or even just view it via the screen in capture window I have trouble.  When just viewing it plays ok just has a green band at the bottom of the screen so about 1/5 of the screen is a band of green with the video above it.  If I try and capture I either get a complete green screen with sound or it captures around 2-3 minutes of the 30 minute tap.  That 2-3 minutes is as I see it on the screen with a wide green band at the bottom, everything else is fine including sound.

Is it possible that the video has some sort of anti copying technology on it?  Don't know if it's even possible but it's fast appearing to be something  like this as it plays fine in the vhs player.  The card an software have been used for various other captures with no dramas on other vhs and Hi8 tapes.

    Any help appreciated.

To get things started, please update your profile and provide as much info about regarding your computer and the device your using to capture from and to/with (ie Dazzle, 710 USB, Moviebox etc).

    Re: encrypted/secure VHS videos

The common VHS copy protection is macrovision, and this is quite expensive to put on a tape, and would be done by a specialist. I believe it was designed  to stop VHS to VHS dubbing.

I'm wondering if the tapes are a different standard - NTSC tapes being played on a psuedo ntsc player perhaps? As Marc says, more info please, including confirming you are in Australia

and welcome to the forum Smile

Were you able to capture without this problem before on another tape?

I am not sure if this would help, but have you tried checking VCR input in capture format and set the correct video standard?
