I'm using (trying to) the white dazzle for live streaming on ustream.tv   It works fine until I hit about 22 minutes into the stream, i then get an error in the FME log saying stream stopped due to problem capturing video/audio.  My computer then locks up so I have to reboot and try all over again.  I'm fairly sure I have all the right drivers installed, Ive checked the sleep settings for everything, my USB ports are up to date and working, and Ive uninstalled and re-installed the drivers to have the same thing happen. Ive racked my brain but Im completely out of ideas.. anyone else having this kind of problem? Im running vista 32 bit, any help would be appreciated :)

Do you have vista cause i have vista and this method doesnt work.

As far as i can tell...Its completely random.

I have been helping people out on jtv a lot.

I just recently helped this guy out with the dvc 100 his audio would work in windows movie maker but not on jtv. (he was using fme)
I told him to do what you said and it worked.

Then i tried to help another guy with the exact same problem he said "i tried that it didn't work".

So yeah....you guys should make a capture card made for jtv

I use a Dazzle 100 and FME on Windows XP to stream with Ustream.tv. I ended up having to write my own walk through as theirs is lacking. I am re posting this here so that you guys can use it as well. This walk through should work for justin.tv as well.

I have decided to write this because at first I had issues. Attempting to stream with Firefox 3 froze my computer completely. When I tried with Internet Explorer (6) I had the same issue. I am going to request that anyone reading this use Apple Safari, as I have had no issues whatsoever using this browser. Apple Safari is freely available for both Mac and Windows machines, and is found at the link found below.

What you will need:
This will assume you have the basic means to stream already, and a Ustream account. Hardware setup is something that is beyond the scope of this tutorial. If you wish to stream with FME, it is recommended that you have at least a 6 megabytes per second DSL or Cable connection with at least 40kb/s upload. Anything less and your stream would not benefit from the use of FME. Assuming you have everything above, you will need the following:

1. Flash Media Encoder (Adobe Account required)
2. Apple Safari Browser (Optional - but again HIGHLY recommended)

Things you should know:
When broadcasting with FME it is not possible to adjust the quality of the stream. Keep this in mind when you are setting your stream up. Also Ustream does not support (as of yet) recording in H.264 format. Ensure you are streaming in VP6 format if you wish to record a live stream when using FME.

It is possible to broadcast using FME in H.264 Format and still record. To do so, ensure "Save To File" in the Flash Media Encoder is clicked and a save location is selected before pressing the start button.


Setting up your stream:

1. First, you will want to install Apple Safari and the Flash Media Encoder.
2. Next, you will want to visit the "My Shows" link on your Ustream page. If you have not yet set up a broadcast, do so now.
3. Than visit "My Shows" link again, and click the "Advanced" tab and download your shows "Flash Media Encoder XML File".
4. Open Flash Media Encoder - ensuring that you do not have the Ustream Broadcast console already opened.
5. Ensure you have a video and audio signal, if not that should be resolved in steps 7 and 8.
6. Select "File", and than "Open Profile" in FME. Browse to the location you saved your FME XML file you downloaded in step 3.
7. Video Setup. The following will heavily depend on your internet connection, adjust accordingly. The following is based upon a 6mb/400kb DSL connection. There are presets, however you may want to customize further. The following settings are not changeable during a live stream, make sure you have someone watching from another location or another computer while testing speeds and different quality settings.
   • Select from the presets drop down "Medium Bandwidth (300kbs) VP6". Even if you have a fast connection, you will want to start off on medium - and work your way up from there.
   • Ensure that the checkbox next to "Video" is selected.
   • Next Select your video input device. Once this is selected you should see 2 video preview's above the options dialog, one is the input preview, and one is the output preview. If not, ensure your device is properly connected, and you have the correct video input selected. Also keep in mind, the output preview is only a preview of what is SENT to Ustream, not what is actually displayed live (this is why it is good to have a remote viewer). There are various video input options available such as brightness, contrast and hue by selecting the wrench icon next to the input device name, although the defaults should suffice for now.
   • Format: Choose either VP6 or H.264. Also choose the bit rate. I use 1500 as my bit rate.
   • Size: For best quality, use a 4:3 aspect ratio, such as 320x240 or 640x480. Ustream does not support widescreen streams - so you will only be reducing the viewable area if you broadcast in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Either should work when streaming. For best results, select 29.97 FPS (frames per second). This is the standard frame rate for streaming video.
   • Crop: If there appears to be a black box surrounding your output, you can adjust by cropping the input area using this option. Each number increments by 1 pixel. For best results crop your video so that only the video and not the black box surrounding it is showing.
   • Select (check) both "Deinterlace" and "AutoAdjust". Deinterlace blurs the vertical pixels and gives the appearance of a higher quality stream. AutoAdjust will adjust the quality of the stream based upon current internet traffic and dropped frame rates while you are streaming.
8. Audio Setup: In this section I will show you how to get the best quality audio.
   • Ensure that the check box next to audio is selected.
   • Next ensure that the proper audio device is selected. Most people will have 2 options, their computer's sound card, and the video input device. If you do not have both of these options, ensure that your video device and/or your sound card has the proper drivers installed.
   • By now you should be seeing an audio meter to the left of the input video preview. If not, ensure that the selected audio device is playing audio. You may not hear the audio, but you should always see some visual feedback letting you know that audio is being captured. If audio still is not showing, follow the steps at the bottom of this tutorial.
   • Format: Format should be set as MP3, this codec is supported by both VP6 and H.264 video capture formats. Also ensure you select "Stereo".
   • Sample Rate: Sample rate should be set to 44100Hz.
   • Bitrate: 128 should suffice for live streaming over the web. Anything higher and you are only eating bandwidth that could be used to improve the video quality.
   • Volume: This is basically user preference. However the default (about half) should be fine.
9. Next - You should see under "Volume" something like "Total Video + Audio Bit Rate: 1612kbs" - the total should be no more than 3 times your rated upload speed your ISP gave you or you risk losing frames and having a stream that lags.
10. Saving to file. If you wish to record and are using the H.264 Format for video capture, you can save the stream to a file. Before you press Start, click the checkbox next to "Save to file", and than browse to the location you wish to save to. For instance "C:\My Streams\November-11-2008.flv"

Connecting and Streaming with Ustream

1. Now that we have FME all setup click "START" at the bottom of FME and minimize it. Then open Apple Safari and browse to Ustream.tv.
2. If you have not already logged in, do so now.
3. Click "Broadcast Now" (located at the top of the ustream website).
4. This should bring up your Broadcast Console. It may say "Sorry your browser is not supported by this console" for up to 10 seconds, ignore it and let the page load. When it loads, it should say "Already online with FME"
5. Click "Start Broadcast".

That's it, your stream should be live. Work with your viewers when you adjust your settings in FME. Just remember you have to close your broadcast console each time you make changes in FME, so close the broadcast console, Hit "Stop" in FME, make your changes, than follow items 1-5 above again.


No Audio displayed in FME
Just because you do not hear audio, does not mean that audio is not being broadcast. To test this, choose your sound card as your audio device, and play an MP3 in your Music player. You should see some visual feedback in FME. However if you have ensured that your device is properly connected, and the test above worked but shows no audio feedback when you select your video input device, than you will need to use the advanced settings on your video device. You can do so in FME by following the steps below:

1. Click the "Video Device Capture Settings" button (the wrench next to the video input device select box).
2. Click the "Crossbar" tab.
3. You should have 2 sections, "Input" and "Output". Under "Output" in the top dropdown, select "1: Audio Decoder Out".
4. Click Ok. You should now have audio showing feedback from the video capture device.

 

Ok I know there is a software called webcam max that routes it through anything to go to ustream or justin. Im using a mac so I have camtwist all I have to do it just hook it up and then two clicks and its there same with webcammax but its like 30 bucks so... I you want it get it.

First off i bought the DCV100 release 1.01 ( sort of guessing on release (at work)), so anyway its white not red and normally $69.00 here in canada at best buy.

 The first issue i saw was the packaging didnt show the model number, only the name, you have to open the package to see the model  info on the bottom !, which also means you have buy it first.... sure would be nice if the DVC*** was on the packaging ...

 

So anyway i took a chance and hoped that if it wasnt a DVC100 and didnt work with live streaming to JTV that i would return it.

Iv heard that the RED DVC100 does work, but mine is white.... $49.00 on sale so i took a chance.

 It does work, but it's a little picky.   At first i was able to select it as a cam type video source ( good start ) , then i was also able to select the DVC as an audio source ( again all's good ).  

Problem was i wasnt getting sound output, i tried all the different volume and source settings, no go, i was ready to package it up for return...

Then i thought at $49.00 bucks it mite still work for DVD usage, so i loaded up the included software, and right away the sound output began.

Adobe's FME 2.5 now showed sound input and i was also hearing it from my speakers, my broadcast to JTV also worked, happy,happy,joy,joy...

Then for testing i closed the DVC software and the sound continued to work..... it seems the software is required to initialize the sound driver.. then i stopped and closed FME and restarted it, dont you know the sound was again gone....

So it seems it will work, it just has to be done the right way....

 
Another weird  thing i had happen was as i was plugging in the DVC's USB cable one specific x10 module clicked on and off ( 2 cycles ) just as the USB ground touched my USB's connectors ground i stopped at that point and wondered what was going on there... ( this is a rare but iv seen my X10 modules do this in other situations, is this the DVCs problem or is it some how connected to the VCR > video/oudio cables and a power line issue, i cant say but it sort of makes me wonder if this could also cause a computer to reboot, maybe the DVC's electronics need a little something... Again guessing at the cause, and its not an issue, i just have to make sure the computer is off when plugging in the DVC..). also i need to play with this some more to see if i can find an actual cause and effect...

Anyway the next thing will be checking for a software patch or upgrade and see if the sound driver issue will be resolved...
 

i cant get the red dazzle to work with flash media encoder :/ FME can only detect video but no audio, is there another way to capture dazzles audio output??

 

keep trying to get it to work, also make sure you check your sound settings ( volume control panel), select advanced then select "recording" then select "stereo mixer" as the sound source, also make sure "wav" volume is up... play with the settings, i think youll get it to work, also you could try "justin.tv" and use the direct flash broadcast button and see were that grets you... select "settings" on flash broadcast window to allow flash to access cam and sound....

I've tried to download the FME, but I get an error saying that I need to buy Adobe Flash Media Server and will not let me continue the installation. I'm not looking to buy any more hardware. What can I do?

Alright, so I have the FME working and set up. However, first thing right off the bat, I get an error message saying "Audio Device Error: The Selected Audio Device "Dazzle DVC 100 Audio" does not provide any supported sample rate ast 44100Hz". Seconds later, another error pops up: "Audio Device Error: The selected Audio Device "Dazzle DVC 100 Audio" doesn't allow setting volume intensity. Disabling the volume slider control."

 I have tried following the instructions at the top of the page but I still do not get any feedback/working sound at all.

The problem I'm having is the fact that I'm on Windows Vista 32 Bit and when I go into FME I don't even have the option of selecting the Dazzle as an audio device. The only time I can ever use the Dazzle as an audio source is in Pinnacle Studio, but I want to stream to Justin.tv using FME. What can I do?

I haven't been on here in a while cause i kind of gave up on it. I still don't own a red dazzle 100 but have the white one which is the 101. I am having the same problem as infinite93 and it seems i can choose the Dazzle DVC 100 in the video options but not audio. My friend uses the dazzle 101 for his broadcasting and he tried helping with it and i did everything he did but i can't select the dazzle for audio. It seems that vista could be the problem for this since he uses XP. I have tried everything possible to get this to work so im kind of sick of bothering with it so if there is a solution to this problem I don't think we will ever see it happening.

I used to have Windows Vista and a Dazzle DVD Recorder (DVC100). I also used to broadcast audio and video to Ustream.Tv. I had the most up-to-date drivers for it. I selected the "DVC100 Video" for the video device and I used a Line-In Cable that was connected to my Xbox 360 Audio cables and plugged into my computer's Line-In Input. This allowed me to stream both audio and video on Ustream.TV. I hoped that helped in some way.
