    Blocky output Pinnacle 500-USB

    Hi

I purchased a Pinnacle 500 USB a few months ago and was very impressed with it however i now have a very annoying problem which i cannot seem to fix.

     I use Studio 10.8 for frame capture and settings are MPEG2 720x526  25frames/sec  PAL Widescreen.data rate 8000 kbits/sec

i last used the system 3 weeks ago and all was fine, i recently tried to use it and the output is blocky, you can really notice it around logos which are on screen and also around edges of things, i have included a small upload for demonstration as its easier to see than describe.

I have tried using AVI insted but still the same problem , even tried uninstalling the software re-installing but no luck, have not installed anything else on my PC, am at my whits end trying to find out whats wrong so any ideas/ help would be great

    Re: Blocky output Pinnacle 500-USB

Those blocky patterns aren't due to a low bitrate. Do you see than on edit preview, or only when you make file/disc?

My first suspision is that the signal you are recording has changed in some way. The patterns would be to small to see in the capture window, but that could be what is coming out of the box you are capturing from (satelite reciever?). If you have another source to try, you should for testing purposes. If you can try different leads, that's another possibility.

My second suspicion would be that progressive and interlaced signals are somehow being mixed up. You satelite box may be outputing progressive, and you are capturing interlaced.

    Hi

I have tried just capturing from a VCR with a old recorded tape and the results are the same.

you may be onto something re the signal though as i used auto GK and my recordings always used to be interlaced but now everything i try and record its advising me that the source is progressive.

both the capture from the VCR and the Sky box are shwoing as progressive, all the settings are in studio are set for interlaced yet clearly that are not being saved as interlaced

    any ideas?

Sorry, don't know what auto GK is.

What project setting are set in Studio? Hover your mouse over the project name top left of the timeline.

Was the Sky box always switched to progressive?

I don't have a 500USB, so I don't know if it can capture progressive or not.

    Re: Blocky output Pinnacle 500-USB

i use Auto Gk to convert to DIVX

when i hover the mouse over mymovie it says interlaced.

if i play the clip within studio 10 and double click to get full screen it still has the blocky lines

re the sky box i dont know, i havent changed anything Sad

    edit

i have tried the capture device with Ulead Studio and the picture is perfect though i dont have any sound so the problem must be Studio 10 related?

so the problem must be Studio 10 related?
So what have you changed in the last 3 weeks? Programs don't just "go bad", do they? Have you applied any patches to Studio? Have you loaded any other video related software that might have overwritten Studio's codecs? Have you accepted any automatic windows updates? Have you (or anyone else that has access) changed any of the setting on Studio 10 or an other bits of your equipment in the last 3 weeks?

How about putting the footage into a progresive project and seeing if you get the same interference?

I am interested to the settings you're using for capturing. Can you post that for us?
