Sometime when I click to capture, in Studio Plus, the capture window goes black, then the screen goes black. Its not BSOD its just black and blank and my computer seems to just idle. there locked up displaying nothing. I need to fix this soon

     My system specs are;

     Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

    Asus Rampage Formula X48 motherboard

    4GB of OCZ ddr2 mem 1066MHz

ATi Radeon HD 4870 gfx card

    700watt Raidmax Power supply

      Im running Vista 64 bit

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Ok after further inspection, I believe I have the AV/DV Deluxe 2. I looked at the system controls and it reads that the hardware is performing normally, so I'm assuming the problem is with Studio Plus capturing only.

The problem is still that when I'm at the capture screen in studio it occasionally goes black. First the capture window where you see incoming video goes black, then the whole computer screen goes black. I cant do anything to retrieve it. Like i said before I am running Vista premium 64bit with service pack 1, and I have Studio Plus version 11.1.2.

Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

The first thing to check is that you are running the latest drivers for your graphics card.

To troubleshoot, try turning of "capture preview" and see if capture then proceeds smoothly - you will have to use another way to jusdge when you have finished capturing.

I'm assuming this is analogue capture, and not DV?

Yeah, I'm capturing video from a PlayStation3 using the red/white/yellow AV cables.

It occasionally records just fine which is what confuses me.

I'll go check for gfx card driver updates right now.

I updated the driver for the HD 4870 from 8.5something to 8.7, and then rebooted so I could use it with the new driver. Then I tested the recorder/studio plus... went into the toolbar and turned of capture preview and when I clicked "OK" I got a BSOD.

whoops. Better roll that back then Huh?

Another troubleshooting possibility is to turn off hardware acceleration before capturing.

I'm focusing on your graphics card because it's a model I don't see used here much.

Do you have other issues apart from capture?

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Only capture problems. I edited a test with the clips that were succesfully recorded.  It seems that the capture works maybe once or twice before I get the failure.

What is really odd is that now that I downloaded the more recent driver for the graphics card, I only get the black screen in the "capture preview" window, a few seconds before what used to be a complete black screen but is now a blue screen with an error message. It always goes by

I used a digital camera to film the capture process and  there were 2 succesful captures, and as soon as i stopped recording the error happened. I started recording again after the reboot and after 1 succesful capture the error happened and I managed to record it. If you would like to see the video I can upload it to youtube or something like that.

As I said before, its a guess about the video card, but the change of drivers changing the nature of the crash seems to indicate it's the right area.

So does the crash onlt happen when you stop capturing? Do you have scene detection switched on or off?

I'd look at an upload if you get the time.

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Well I'm pretty sure its actually the driver for the MovieBoard Plus/700 PCI. I found another thread full of people on this site with the same problem. Apparently the driver to make it work with Vista 64 is crap and doesn't really work.

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

The BSOD message says its a driver error, and so I uninstalled everything including the hardware, drivers, and other things. Then I realized i still had a driver from studio 10 on the pc, so I removed it. Then I reinstalled the software, rebooted, shutdown installed the Hardware, and then It worked for about Half an hour! I got about 10 scenes done! I was so happy but then it happened again. According to another thread it the 64 bit driver for studio 11. What do I do now? Is pinnacle fixing the problem???

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

    You may try this.

While the hardware is installed, uninstall the driver in the device manager. There might be a prompt to uninstall the driver/software also.  Check that. This goes to other conflicting devices with yellow marks. Then install this driver before restarting.

    http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Hardware_Installer/PCLEUSB2x64.exe

msinfo32 >> Software Environment>Error Reporting and Hardware resources>Conflicts/Sharing might have other information that will help us address the problem.

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Ok, now I tried that and it still happens.

    BSOD Error message is

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Have you tried the board in another PCI slot?  Swapping slots used to be a fairly standard recommendation which I can vouch for - my board runs in one slot but not another.  Go figure....

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

Good idea Jerry. Some IRQ conflicts are resolved by reseating the card to another slot.

By the way, have you checked msinfo32 for any clue?

Studio also has the AMCAPTURE tool. Please try this while I figure another resolution.

Post back if you are able to capture using this Microsoft application.

AMCAPTURE is only firewire, right? Well I'm using the red/white/yellow AV cables, not firewire. The problem is still happening...

No - it should pick up your analogue captures device as well

There is the possibility that the card has developed a hardware fault.

Your motherboard does not have an onboard sound adapter, right?

What happened when you use AMCAPTURE?

When you say onboard sound adapter, you mean built in sound right? It has no onboard sound or video if thats what you are asking.

Re: Computer Turns Off/restarts when Capturing Sometimes (MovieBoard Plus)

    AM Capture works fine.

I also updated my mo'board bios.

Interesting new find -  this error appears in Event viewer at every startup:

\??\C:\Windows\SysWow64\drivers\pclepci.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver.

SysWow64 is Windows-32 On Windows-64 drivers directory right? So it look like the driver has a problem according to Vista 64-bit windows. File is dated 2/9/2005. Any confirmation from Pinnacle as to whether this is the correct Vista 64-bit driver or a replacement compatible version? Thanks
