FLV - Flash Video - Something not right with the resulting output file

I've been experimenting with the new FLV "Flash Video" output feature of Studio 12 Ultimate, as I think it will be a much nicer experience for sharing videos with family and friends on my personal website.  I've been using the JW Flash Player to support the embeding of the files on my site:

     http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Player

However one thing I've noticed is that FLV files produced by Studio 12 don't show an end time or the "scrubber" in the flash player window as flash files from other sources do.  When I start playing a video, I see the buffer bar fill up as the video loads, I see the timer on the left count up as seconds pass, but I don't see the scrubber moving over the buffer bar, nor do I see the time on the right count down, it just stays at 00:00.  Otherwise the videos play fine, but this is a bit of an annoying quirk.  Has anyone else expereinced this?  Is it a known limitation of Studio's implementation of Flash Video?

Do you see this happen after uploading the FLV into your website? Can you post a link?

It occurs on my local machine as well.  Here is a link to my site:

    http://jason.coon.com/

Click the "Movies" link at the top of the page.  The first video of my 7-month old crawling was created natively using Studio 12 (even used the Boris graffiti plugin for the title) and saved as a FLV using custom settings of 480x360 resolution at 1000 kbits.  The other three are conversions of older movies created in Studio 11 and 9, opened with Studio 12 and saved as FLV using the same custom settings.  I'm working on converting the rest of the .wmv and .mov moives on that page into FLV format.

Re: FLV - Flash Video - Something not right with the resulting output file

I'm now convinced that this is an issue with Studio's implementation of FLV.  I took the same project of my 7-month old son crawling, saved it as a DV-AVI, and then used the Any Video Converter that Emmett mentions in his "YOUTUBE and FLV" post to convert the DV-AVI to FLV.  That FLV file *does* behave as expected in the JW FLV media player, it has the scrubber and the time countdown on the right side.

Until this issue is sorted out by Pinnacle I'll just save my videos as DV-AVI and use the Any Video Converter to convert to FLV for my website.  It's more of a hassle, but gets me the results I'm looking for.  Hopefully this gets sorted out soon.

BTW - should anyone from Pinnacle wish to examine the files, I've got both FLVs, the one created by Studio 12, and the one created by Any Video Converter that I can email out to you.

P.S. I've now updated all the Flash video on my site using the Any Video Converter, so the problem I described is no longer visible there, however I still have the offending FLV files in case anyone wants to see them.

Perhaps you could send me a PM containing FTP links to these videos so I could check them further with engineering.

PM sent (actually 3 of them, not sure how that happened).  I included a link to where you can download the files, including sample html so you see exactly what I saw.  Thanks for taking a look.

Sorry for not noticing your PM. Embarrassed

I'll download it right away and march over to engineering. Let me get back to you through this thread and your PM.

    Thanks.

    Marc-

Would you mind posting any resolution for this problem here?  I use the exact software on my website and have issues as well.  Although, mine are a little more severe.  When I upload my Pinnacle 12 created FLV files, I get sound only.  The sound is perfect, but not video.

     Thanks very much.

    UPDATE

I tried this with FlowPlayer FLV player also (http://flowplayer.org/).  With that player, I got the video and audio, but none of the controls worked.  Just thought you might like to know...

Sorry for the long overdue update, I am still waiting for feedback at the moment. Thank you for sharing your solution to the no video issue.

Re: FLV - Flash Video - Something not right with the resulting output file

This issue seriously needs to be resolved. I convinced the company I work for to upgrade Studio 12 specifically for the flv output. Now the upgrade is worthless since it doesn't work. I'm very disappointed that this problem for one exists and the other that it has not been resolved yet.

We have brought this issue to our engineers attention and they are working hard to isolate the issue and hopefully this will be resolved in the near future.

Re: FLV - Flash Video - Something not right with the resulting output file

For those having issues with the FLV output from Studio 12, the workaround that I'm using should work for you as well.  It's free, and pretty fast.  Simply output your video from Studio 12 in DV-AVI format instead of FLV, then use Any Video Convertor (they have a free version: http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/, though I opted to spend the $29.95 to buy the Pro version) and it will quickly and painlessly convert those DV-AVI files into FLV.  I've had great success with it.

Re: FLV - Flash Video - Something not right with the resulting output file

I just installed the Studio 12 patch hoping it would resolve this issue.  As expected, this patch did nothing to fix the flash video problems with the online video players.  The main reason I went with Pinnacle over Sony, Ulead, and the other competition was the advertised ability to save files in FLV format.  I feel cheated and robbed, frankly.  I'll chalk this up to a $100 mistake and move on to another software package, never again to purchase anything from Pinnacle Systems.  Good luck to the rest of you.

Thank you for letting us know that the patch did not fix the issue. I will use this information to report this incident and to continue looking for the permanent fix.
