Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus

When I "IMPORT DVD TITLES" from DVD's that was created with Studio, on most I get only one big file. On one DVD I get all the titles (chapters) which, if I look at the instruction manual, that is what a person must get. All my DVD's have similar file stuctures. What can I do to get all the titles when I  "IMPORT DVD TITLES"?

Try copying the contents of the DVD onto a folder in your desktop and try to importing from there. Moving to the Edit Section.

Thank you, but I have already done that, and it is still just one large file

Is this a home made movie? When you play it back does it have separate chapters to navigate to?

Hmm. Does Studio show you several chapters to select from for the import?

Re: Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus

Im sorry to keep posting questions. I want to isolate the issue better to drive to a better conclusion/solution. To test, could you try another Studio made dvd to see if you are able to import better. Or if it behaves the same.

I have already tried six DVD's made with Studio, I only get one Title. All DVD'S have may chapters each.

Re: Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus

Where I think that the confusion may lie:

On a DVD, there is a hierarchy that (overly simplified) goes something like:

A Video DVD contains one or more Titles

A Title contains one or more Chapters

And from observation:  Most "normal" Studio DVDs with a menu at the beginning are one title, regardless of the number of chapters.

Some Studio DVDs do have more than one title (at least, this is the way it was in earlier versions of Studio).  The title breaks tend to occur when a menu is NOT the first thing in the list.  For example (under earlier versions of Studio, anyway), if you had a DVD composed of a lead-in clip, a menu, and the remainder of the DVD video, you could have 2 titles -- one for the lead-in video, one for everything else.

So, in short, the whole TITLE being imported as one-big file regardless of the number of CHAPTERS?  That's normal behavior.

Very detailed as always. Thanks for taking the time to explain this BittMann.

Re: Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus

Hi bittman, Thanks for the info. However I only agree with you partly. I have an old DVD that was made with Studio, I am not sure, but it could  have been version 9.3.4 It have no lead-in video. It has a menu with 9 chapters. When I do "IMPORT DVD Titles with Studio 11 Plus, I get all 9 chapters,(shown as "Titles") and the time duration of each chapter is also shown. Its file structure is the same as a file structure of a DVD that was made with Studio 11. These DVDs  made with Studio 11  show only one title when I do an Import DVD Titles with Studio 11. I also use EDIUS editing software. With Edius a person do a "Disc Capture". (instead of Import DVD Titles) When I do I Disc capture on Edius with a DVD that was made with Studio 11, it shows all the chapters with the time duration of each chapter.  All my DVD's are made with a menu and some chapters. Thought I'll pass this to you.

Re: Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus *** I have the same problem

I just purchased Studio Plus 12 and I'm having this same problem. I have a DVD that has one title, about 20 chapters inside the title, and a menu with just the one title. The DVD was created by my stand-alone Toshiba DVD-writer (connected to my TV). Studio Plus 12 reads the DVD as one title (and does not show/import the chapters)

However, I have an evaluation copy of Ulead DVD MovieMaker and its import function shows the title and all the chapters as expected (and allows me to import one, several or all the chapters)

Why can't Studio do the same?

Re: Import DVD Titles: Studio 11 Plus *** I have the same problem

I have not tried importing DVDs created by Studio 9, but I have observed that Studio 10 and above imports based on the Title and not chapters.

I have yet to see how Studio 9 creates chapters for DVD movies.
