No audio in preview window in edit mode for studio 9 plus

    Hi everyone.

I'm runninng studio 9 plus with 9.4.3 patch with the purchased codecs from pinnacles premium content.

My problem is when I import a video file into the preview window in edit mode I can play the video clip I just can not get the audio to work. this same video plays great in windows media player. I have checked all the obvious routes like update drivers and made sure all the volume controls are up and not muted.

Running HP pavilion notebook ZE2000. Windows XP home. Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3000+. Direct X 9.0c. ATI Radeon xpress zoom. Conexant AC-Link audio.

the video format is from a Flip Video Ultra. Format: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) and ADPCM audio, saved as an AVI file.

One thing I thought of doing is to download a codec program, but read that could lead to more problems.

I've done hours of research and have not come up with a viable solution. I am a novice at studio and not that proficient at the computer and at my wits end. so an answer to my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Re: No audio in preview window in edit mode for studio 9 plus

There are some audio formats that Studio simply will not support.  That is probably one of 'em.

One thing that you might do:  Download and install virtualdub, and see if it will consent to read and play back that video.  If it does, then you could convert the audio to another format (tell virtualdub to COPY the video, and to RE-ENCODE the audio), or you could re-encode the entire video+audio to another format (like into an MJPEG AVI or some such) which Studio can have an even easier time of using.  Other video conversion programs are out there (RAD video tools, SUPER, etc.) as well.

But bottom-line:  I think that you're going to have problems with this clip because of the audio format used, and I don't think that adding "codec packs" to your system is going to answer the problem.  I think that converting the file into a Studio-compatible format may be the way to go.

Agreed 100%. There are many audio compressions out there, and some just aren't friendly with Studio. You definitely better off converting this to a simpler compression such as what BittMann has mentioned in his reply above.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll just have to convert all my videos.

One other thought, I wonder if I now need the keys I bought from pinnacle for $20 extra that I won't be using now and get a refund? Or do I still need them.

I'm afraid I can't answer that one for you. Its up to you if you decide to keep the extras that you purchased for a project in the future or you can contact Support/Customer care about a refund.
