I am npw SO disappointed! I have worked with a project for two days, and when I now tries to open it - it has just gone "blank". Size of the project is 0 (as are all my other projetcts!) and it does not start (of course) from Studio. When I try to start it from the projects folder (by double clicking it) I get the error "The projects folder 's' is missing. The projecyt could not open" I have saved the project lots of times, and last time just before I started rendering it (to DVD). The project did not render well - it stopped when there where a few frames left and then the program stopped. I had to close it, and when it opened again it said that it wasn´t closed properly last time and did I want to start with the rescent project. I answered yes and tere it was! This repeated three times, and then I thought I´d better restart the programe properly, so I saved the project, finished the programe and started it again - after which my project was gone! Now; is this missing folder somewhere? Is there a possibility I can find it or a temp file somewhere else on my computer?
And - whhat is this for a programe when I can not trust my project beeing saved although I have saved it!? Regards, Hakan

Welcome to the Forum "The projects folder 's' is missing. The projecyt could not open"
Check your Recycle Bin & look for a Grey "Film-Strip" Folder, with your Project Name. If it's there, Restore it back to it's original Location. If it isn't, go back to your "My Projects" Folder. You should have the Grey "Film-Strip" Project Folder, together with the STX File Icon that Opens it. If you only have the STX File Icon, Go to: Start / Search / All files & folders / Enter the File Name of your Project / Search, to see if you still have it on your PC & which Containing Folder it's in.
If your Project is over 4Gb & you accidentally Deleted it, it's too big for the Recycle Bin & it's gone for good & you'll have to re-do your Project I'm afraid.
Did you Save your Project to Studio's Default Location on Drive C:, or to another Internal or External Drive?
In future, either Save each Edit to Same File Name, but with incremental Nos. That way if you lose your last Edit, you only have to re-Edit from your previous File Name No, or, the safest way, is to Render each Edit to File DV-AVI, using incremental Nos & put all of the AVIs on the Timeline, for a final Render & add your Menues.
Anyone-else?

Thanks for all help and for the welcome!
Now. I do find a folder (gray) named "the same" as my lost project, though it is called "MIN FILM 6" instead of "Min film 6.stx" that is, with CAPITAL letters instead of "whateversmalllettersiscalledinenglish" (decapitated!?). Could this have any relevance? I do not dare to change anything or even start studio until I know it wont "kill" my project or the remains of it once again. I also saved the temp folder, which contained a lot of clips and different files. Could I get something from that folder? I made a screendump of the projects folder, with its content, but I did not find a way of adding it to the post. Most greatful to any help comming! Håkan

Oh.. some answers missing: I used the "normal" fodler to save, that is the projects folder. I did not really understand the thing you wrote about: the safest way, is to
Render each Edit to File DV-AVI, using incremental Nos & put all of
the AVIs on the Timeline, for a final Render & add your Menues but that might just be me not knowing the procedure in Studio. I used (and still uses) Premiere normally, but since that software does not edit HD fråm my Sony-cam I bought Studio too...

That's correct. The Grey Folder "contains" your Project Files. Right-Click on it & choose "Properties". You should have a lot of Folders & Files, listed in the details. Please confirm how many Folders & Files are listed & the Size in Mbs, of the Folder.
The .stx File is Zero bytes & doesn't "contain" any Project Files. It Links to the Grey Project Folder, with the same Project Name & Opens that Folder into the Timeline. Is the .stx File showing along-side the Grey Project Folder or is it missing? If so we can create a new one, to Open the Grey Project Folder.
Please Post-back Re: the above.
Thanks

I have the "MIN FILM 6" folder alongside with "Min film 6.stx". 16 folders, 10 files and just 65kb large. BUT.. looking through the project folder i found "min film 4.stx" which seems to be my project! Very strange, since this was just a "test", abandoned when I started making this project! I started the project, and tried to "save as..." and a new name - however - Studio then shut down in error... When I now tries to start it again, it doesn´t... I restart the computer... be back soon! /H

Not enough Files for your Project & IMO, 65Kb would only be the total size of the Containing Folders & Studio generated Files. None of these are your Project Files & your MIN FILM 6 Project Folder is empty & you may-as-well Delete both the Folder & STX Fille, to keep things tidy.
i found "min film 4.stx" which seems to be my project
If that's the case, have you got a MIN FILM 4 Grey Project Folder in your "My Projects" Folder? It may be that's what's missing. Go back & go through the route again, I Posted, for looking for MIN FILM 6. If you can find it, Post how many Folders & Files it contains. If you can't find it, I'm afraid you will have to re-do your Project

Hi! Everything went finally well! Almost all information was in MIN FILM 4, i guess that when I started all over again, after the software had closed on its own, it created a MIN FILM 5 and then a MIN FILM 6, after that I was lost, and thought that the latset project was the one I should use. it is a bit of a nucance that Studio does not start with a completly blank project, but instead loads all the clips I used in the previous project... Or - is that something I can adjust? I am most greatful for your kind and prompt help! I might have to come back to you and ask other questions, if that is all right!? Tack så mycket! /Thanks! /Håkan

is that something I can adjust?
I haven't a clue Many potential lost Projects are due to User error & are unique, but the solutions for attempting to recover them, are the same.
Glad you got it Fixed
I might have to come back to you and ask other questions, if that is all right!?
If you have another problem not related to this last one, I suggest that you start a new Thread in the relevant Forum. You are currently Editing, therefore Post in the Edit Forum, where more people are likely too see your Post & respond. Entering your PC Hardware Specs, OS System, Pinnacle Products etc into your Profile, will help those to assist you. How to, in this Post: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/122545.aspx

Hi, I had the same problem. My issue I think is slightly different in that I have a folder with my project name (along with the STX file icon) but it is not the grey "film-strip" icon; it is just a regular folder icon and contains a PLP file with my same project name, as well as two additional folders labelled "OBJ" and "Settings" respectively. Still, it says that the folder is missing etc.
Do you have any suggestions?

Welcome to the Forum
In over 3 years of Posting since your particular prob 1st started, I've only seen one Poster HERE , whose successfully Opened a Project, when the Grey Project Folder has changed into a regular Windows yellow Folder. All others have had to re-do their Projects
If & when you re-do your Project. Either Save each Edit to the same File Name, but with incremental numbers. That way if it happens again, you only have to re-do your last Edit & not the whole Project. OR: Render each Edit to File DV-AVI, with same File Name, but with incremental numbers & Import all of the AVI's into your Timeline, for a Final Render. That way, you don't lose anything.
Good luck
ADDED - Thre's something you could try, involving the 2nd part of a Registry hack (since what you have, would be the result of the 1st part). The 1st & 2nd parts have been Posted & offered before, but I've never seen it work, apart for the originator; Kayla, who Posted that Fix, which is involed & complicated. I've never tested it out, but I'll create a "Dummy" Project & test it out & Post my findings in this Thread, by the end of the Week End (UK) time.
In any event, there's no rhyme or reason why this happens & it's different in each case. At the end of the day it's partly due to a combination of Studio's incomprehensible Project File Format, User error & bad luck. It just happens.
