Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Glenn N:Hello Everyone.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped me finish my first DVD because, without the help of people in this Forum, it would have been utterly impossible. {snip} Re Rendering:
When my project consistently refused to render, no matter how many times I searched for errors or possible causes for the inevitable hang (freeze-up), the solution suggested here was to “cut and paste” the entire project to a new timeline.
To achieve this, you click on the completed project in the timeline, go up to “Edit,” click on “select all” in the dropdown menu, then RIGHT click anywhere in the now-highlighted project and select “Copy.”
Now go back up to “file” and click on “New Project.” Your current timeline will close (don’t worry. It’s saved,) and a new blank timeline will open. Left click anywhere in the new timeline, then right click and select “paste.”
After a terrifying period when you think nothing is happening, your entire project will suddenly appear in the new timeline.
Save it with a new name, then try rendering again.
This Workaround has worked for me every time and I’ve had no more problems with rendering.
{snip} Thanks once again to everyone in this forum for all your support and help.
Yours sincerely,
Glenn Norman, Canada
PS: To all the pros ... please feel free to correct any mistakes I may have made, or add suggestions I may have missed.
Hey, Glenn, I've had good results until today. A one-button, 98-minute project absolutely refuses to render. I applied Enditall, checked for gaps, and everything else. It won't render to .iso, nor to a VIDEO_TS folder. Instead, Studio crashes, each and every time. Is there further help? Thanks. Bill

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Hello Everyone,
I am new to Pinncale and also new to forums..of any kind. I am not sure how to ask a question or even where to go to see if anyone answers me. I feel like I am lost sometimes trying to figure this all out. I asked a question of Glenn the other day and didn't hear back from him so I am going to try to ask a question as a reply to this thread. Please bear with me if I don't do it correctly. I am going to try to cut and paste the question I asked Glenn. I would appreciate help from anyone. Woohoo..Minnesota. We have lived there most of our lives and just recently moved to North Dakota. Can't wait to move back. Here is the original question:
Hello Glenn, I am new to the Pinnacle forum, and also new to Pinnacle, the product. I am trying to just make a basic movie on a DVD from some VCR tapes that my grandma sent me. It has been a really long and arduous journey and I seem to be running out of steam. I would appreciate it so much if you could offer a few suggestions. I have read thru so many tips and done searches in every part of Pinnacle as well as on other websites. I have talked to the guys at Best Buy where I got the Pinnacle product and my computer and it has helped get me this far. Your thread regarding the burning of a DVD in Pinnacle that wouldn't play on all DVD players was fairly close to the problem I am having now. I also saved your thread about making a movie for Newbies. Thanks for that.
I will try to give you some background first. I bought my Vista computer and the guys at Best Buy set it up last June 2007. I told them I wanted to take some VCR movies and save them to DVD and they recommended Pinnacle Studio 11. Didn't work. Then Pinnacle Dazzle..didn't work. Then Studio MovieBox USB which has Pinnacle Studio 10. So I now have Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 and also Pinnacle Studio 10 on my system. I could never get the Studio 11 to capture but I can get it to burn what I have captured with Studio 10. Both have the lastest updates, as well as my Vista OS and all other hardware ie: DVD burner. I couldn't get it to capture, finally got that by going to the support section and talking to the techs online. Then it dropped frames, figured that out. Then I couldn't burn..went to the help questions and searched for hours and also talked to the Best Buy people and traded in my regular DVD-Rs for DVD+RW. I also slowed down the burn rate to medium. I was finally able to burn a disc today and I was so excited. I tried to play it on my JVC HR-XVC17S combo VCR/DVD player and it kept saying "reading" and then would eject. Back to the Pinnacle support and other websites to see if I could find anything on that..hours later I found some threads that said to check the DVD for the files that are supposed to be there..they are..and then to try to play it on my computer..I did and it played fine. It also played on my son's XBOX 360. So it seems that I am in about the same place as you were when trying to play your DVD on all DVD players. The last thread I read said you would update when you figured out what to do next. I don't know how to search in Pinnacle to see if there are more recent threads. I just can't tell you how much I would appreciate any sort of help you might be able to offer. My family thinks I should just give up because I have spent so much time getting this far but that is the reason why I can't give up. I am getting pretty frustrated tho. I have done no editing, just a straight copy of the VCR tape--capture, edit and make movie. I am using Studio 11 plus to edit and burn the DVD. I will tell you the settings in the Make disc screen if you need them. I wanted to make a DVD for each of my sisters so I should probably make sure it can be read on other DVD players. I can't even get it to work on my own--except the XBOX. It all sounded so simple when the Geek Squad guys set it up. I haven't gotten into the editing process yet. Anyway, I think it's great that you have saved so many people from wasting their time on things that don't work and shared your success and failures. Thanks so much for your help, Leesa

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Thanks for the summary. I still have an "export error: real time C:\render/file name 0555028a\dvd\studiosequence\temp" after clicking "make movie". I tried cutting and pasting into new project (which has always worked for me also) but to no avail. some of the threads mention making certain that all the auxilliary files are deleted but not sure what that means. have defragmented and restarted. thanks for any ideas

What a great guide! From someone who has recently started to struggle with audio problems, thanks for taking the time to create such a helpful document. It is definitely a keeper for me. I followed it completely and now have a perfect DVD.

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Just a quick question in regards to Glenn's tips for rendering. When you say to copy the completed project from it's current timeline into a new one, should I be doing this before or after I have linked all of the menu's to the main movie?
I've been having trouble rendering a 2:45 hour project and tried this tip last night. I started a new project, imported the menu's and main movie and linked the menu's to the chapter stops. Then when I copied the project from it's current timeline into a new one, none of the links came with it. All of the menu's and main movie were there, but no links. So I linked everything up again and tried rendering it, but it died after writing about 380MB's of the .iso.

I tried the rendering wksround, and I found that I lost all my chapter link settings in the new project. Did I miss a step from the following...? Re Rendering: When

Copying and pasting the contents of a project's timeline should be done if you only get problems. Its not a necessary step. It should work before or after you link.

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Hi Glen, This is my first post ever! Regarding cutting and pasting my movie so that it will render properly, you mention there will be a horrifyingly long period of time after pasting the cut file into a new project. How long is this period? My movie is 20 mins long and has lots of music, transitions, video and audio effects. 've been waiting about 30 mins for it to paste into the new timeline.
Thanks for your help.

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Glenn Great job. You may have provided the key I've needed (forget about Pinnacle support; it's a lost cause). One question, please: I, too, abandoned the default burner in preference of Nero, but my menu links would not work in the final product. The entire movie was one continuous clip, with no chapters. I gave up in frustration after weeks, but intend to tackle it again after reading your post. Have you experienced this, and if so, do you have a suggestion? Maybe your step-by-step process will take care of whatever the problem is. And, double "amen" to your analysis of Pinnacle software: wonderful interface, pathetic engine. They should hire some real programmers. I speak as a three year veteran of wrestling this abomination into submission. Almost there...

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Hi, I am new to all this, well I was two years ago when I purchased Studio Plus 10.7, and entered the "mother of all problems" trying to get 10.7to run on my XP system. In fact I had to threaten Pinnacle with legal action citing their product was not fit for purpose before getting a new system from them FOC, after which, it finally enabled me to start the creative process - not a very good start or a confidence building experience!
Sadly I had to drop the project until three weeks ago when I first encounted the dreaded Export Failure, Rendering message. No search for error messages or rumaging through manuels produced and results for self help so I contacted Pinnacle only to be advised that they nolonger support version 10.7 - what a shower!
Anyway, trying to keep positive, I have read through all this very enlightening material from your goodself and the comments on many others and I feel sure that the clues are out there but as a start can you or anyone advise if they have direct experience with this nightmare with version 10.7 and or how applicable the solutions posted might be to my probem?
Thanks
Chrisso

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Did you install 'Pinnacle Instant DVD'? If so, go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall it. Also any other programs such as 'instant CD'. These programs have caused lots of problems when making a disk. Also, try "Burn in Safe Mode", this is in the settings for 'make movie'.

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
Don, Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried to uninstall "Pinnacle Instant DVD" but the removal throws up an error with the software that prevents its removal! Never had that ever before!
In the meantime I have also tried the burn in safe mode but this ultimately results in an error message!
Any further suggestions Don or anyone?
Thanks

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
I have tried to uninstall "Pinnacle Instant DVD" but the removal throws up an error with the software that prevents its removal!
Insert S10 Prog Disk / let the Installer Autorun / You'll get a "Pop-Up", giving you the options to Modify, Repair & Uninstall.
Choose Modify & Deselect InstantDVD & Mediamanager/Server (It's a System resource hog & you don't need it). Try that.
Many have found S10.7 to be the most stable Version of S10. IMO, it's the most stable version of Studio, to date.
If you have Nero, Create a Disk Image in S10.7 & Import that into Nero BurnigROM - SE & Burn with Nero.

Re: A Summary of Rendering & Burning Solutions for Newbies
I followed many of the pre-rendering suggestions the last was still running some 8 hours later so I have given that one up!
So the ability to burn anything sadly has not arisen!
I am close to quitting Pinnacle forever as all of the great suggestions have failed.
Any last sugestions?
