    Pinnacle 11 can't find playback capacities----please HELP!

Hello. I have been a Pinnacle customer for many years now, and just this week I have encountered a problem in Studio 11 Plus that has ground all my work to a screeching halt.

Whenever I open Studio the message "Can't get playback capacities" appears and the project preview screen is blacked out. I searched all across the forums, but I couldn't find anyone else who has had this problem. I am very desperate, and I really would appreciate anyone who thinks they can help. I am using Windows XP (SP2)  with dual ADM Athlon 4 Ghz proccessors, 2 GB of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 200 graphics card. There is no reason why Pinnacle shouldn't be able to function normally as it always has. Please, someone help!

Do you have Windows Automatic Update enabled? If so, have you tried rolling with System Restore back to a point before the problem started?

    Installed any other software recently?

I do have Windows Automatic Update enabled, and one of the first things I tried was using System Restore. First I went back about a week before the message first appeared, then a month, then two months....and the problem STILL persists. :(  I can't recall if I installed anything recently, but I did use Spybot several times recently to rid my PC of spyware, and I enabled TeaTimer to automatically block any malicious processes. I could try to disable/uninstall both programs, but I doubt that has anything to do with my problem as I also have Studio 9 still installed on my PC, and that continues to work fine. Thank you for taking the time to respond---if you think of anything else, please, let me know ASAP!

If you think that the problem is "Program Related" instead of "Project Related", you might try doing a "Repair Install". Insert your S11 disc, and you will see the option to repair. This seems to work well when the program somehow gets corrupt.

Secondly, my suggestion would be to do away with system restore and learn to use an imaging software such as Acronis True Home. IMO, system restore doesn't "completely" restore everything.

I'll try doing a repair install, and I'll take what you said about imaging software into consideration. Thanks!

Let us know if the repair does the trick (or not ). Good Luck. :-)

    ATI Radeon 200 graphics card.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it. If it's an X200 - Spec states: "UMA Mode Operation requires no external Memory". However if it's an X200M, it's integrated & takes all of it's Memory, from Sytem.

It didn't. Now Studio 11 doesn't even finish loading....it reaches somewhere around 50% and then the message "The application has unexpectedly quit" pops up. I really don't know what to do anymore. I've tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, and nothing seems to work---I'm out of options.

The next step is a full reinstall - possible in safe mode.

Make a backup of your project files and folders (or better still, a disc image) for safety.

Uninstall Studio, run regdelete, reboot in SAFE MODE, reinstall from scratch.

    Oh No....Sad

Like Jeff mentioned, the install from safe mode might be the next thing. HERE is the FAQ on uninstalling the software in case you haven't seen it.

It's my opinion that installation from the discs is more prone to errors than installation from your Hdd. Make a folder on your desktop and copy the contents of disc # 1 to that folder. You can then click the "Setup" icon in that folder, and away you go.

Immediately after you install the software, reboot and install the 11.1.2 patch. This worked for me a few weeks back when I reinstalled, and could only get to 50% loaded.

You might want to read THIS as well. The topic heading might not be correct for you, but some of the solutions might be spot on for your trouble. (I like the phrase "Spot On"Yes. I'll thank Jeff for that phrase since he is close by. Big Smile)

I'm sorry that I haven't been able to post for the past few days. Jjn and Towbar, thank you so very much for all of your help!

I uninstalled, cleared the registry, rebooted in safe mode, reinstalled, installed the latest patch and now everything is working 100%.
    I can't thank you guys enough! :)
