No, to play back an AVCHD disc (even burned on a standard DVD) you need a Blu-Ray player or Sony PlayStation3.

Is PSP11U Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 Ultimate or an acronym for a Playstation?

Yes it's Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 Ultimate that I use.

I don't have an HD burner yet.  I'm not trying to view it in HD yet, just digital.  will PSP convert the AVCHD format into a normal format for me?  Is there anything special/details I will need to know?  I don't know what PSP version I have.  Maybe 10?  I'm not sure.  I'll check when I get home.

The simplest way would be to use the connectors that came with your Sony camera to connect it direct to the TV.  

By PSP, do you mean Pinnacle Studio or Playstation, or ?   

If you want to make a Standard def DVD, just import your footage to Studio (you need S11 or S12 to edit AVCHD) and make a DVD.

If you have S10, use the Sony PMB software to convert to MPEg2 and import that to Studio. Then make your DVD.

I'm now going to upgrade my Pinnacle Studio + 11 Ultimate to Pinnacle Studio + 12. It makes it possible to burn Blu-ray.
I also have to buy a new laptop(probably a ASUS G50V) with Blu-ray(BD) RE(RE = RW) so I can burn my films on BD-discs so I don't
have to store them on the hard disk.
