Pinnacle make CPU usage stay at 100%

Lately I have been having a problem with Pinnacle 9.4.3 running extremely slow.   I try and move the time bar and it makes the CPU usage on my computer go to 100% for about 5 seconds and then it moves.  This happens every time I try and do anything.  Its pretty much to the point where I can no longer watch the movie I am editing.  The whole movie is only 20 minutes long if that makes a difference.

Below is the stats on my computer system:

    Windows XP Home
    Intel Celeron CPU 2.53GHz
    1.00 GB of RAM
    108 GB

I even upgraded the RAM to 2GB and that did not make a difference.  Any thoughts on this?

There is always the possibility that you may have picked up a virus or some spyware. Have you run checks on your computer lately?

Version 9.4.3 was like that, extremely slow. I have 9.3.5, which is the previous version and it works well. 9.3.5 is probably the best version to edit with excluding HD, which it doesn't do.

    Since it's cheap to do...

    1. Startup Studio and delete all the aux files

    2. Run Disk Cleanup

    3. Defrag the drive

    4. Run an error check on the drive.

    Try Studio again.

Did this but still no luck.  I actually have version 9.4.3 and version 10.8 installed and they both use most of the memory.  I cannot figure it out but I have a movie I am working on that needs to be done in less than two weeks and I cannot even work on it anymore.  Any other ideas?

    A few...

Have you done a scan for spyware and viruses?

How much free space do you you have on your drive?

How big is the paging file?

Check the event logs to see if you are getting errors.

Have you taken a peek with msconfig to see what all is starting up and what non-MS services are running ?

Had a problem with spyware but it is resolved now as far as I know.

Would it be better if I made part 1, part 2 and so on?  The whole thing is only 20 minutes so far but the files I am working with are large in size as they are all takes off in the highest quality.  Thoughts on this?

Re: Pinnacle make CPU usage stay at 100%

Does Pinnacle 9.4.3 or 10.8 run on Vista?  I need to get this movie done so either I work on it for 1 minute out of ever 3 because of it going to 100% or i start working on it on another computer.  There is not enough days for me to finish this movie as it is.

Re: Pinnacle make CPU usage stay at 100%

10.8 is the version of Studio 10 made for Vista and it runs fine in Vista.

Version 9 is regarded as end-of-life and has not been patched to run in Vista.

Re: Pinnacle make CPU usage stay at 100%

Render the project as is using AVI DV and then move it to the new computer to continue the edit. If you have Vista on that other computer, you will only be able to use Studio 10.8 and onwards. Studio 9 will not work on Vista.
