Idea [I] Pan & Zoom / How to crop in PIP

    Hi,

I'm new to this so please bear with me. I've been asked to edit a video of some surgical procedure and the user wants to focus entirely on a certain piece of the video for the whole lengh of the video, they want the rest of the video out ofthe picture and only this piece of it to be viewed, could somebody please help me out or start me on the correct way to do this, I'm led to believe that I must use the pan/zoom?....is this correct or am I completely wrong.

    Thanks for any help.

    Ethnic.

    Re: Pan/zoom

If you use Picture In Picture, you can crop the video to the area you want to show.  Just click the 'Crop' tab within PIP.

And Welcome to the forum Ethnic.

    Re: Pan/zoom

    Hi Ethnic,

Click on the clip that you want to apply PIP.

Here is the PIP window open with the "Crop" box ticked instead of the "Scale" box.
(upper left corner of the PIP window)

Now you only need to drag the 'crop' handles to the area you want to keep.

Once you're done selecting the area you want to keep, check the "Scale" box and you can now move your selection to wherever you want it.

Does this help?  If not, let me know.

    Hi Marc,

You might want to consider changing the title too.  It really isn't "How to pan and zoom".  It's more like, "How to crop in PIP".  (or something like that)
There just isn't any panning or zooming.

(However, changing the title might confuse the OP if he ever comes back.)

    Re: Pan/zoom

    Kayla,

I've changed it back to the original and added "How to crop in PIP" to avoid any confusion.

    Thanks for the tip.

Hi - I'm Mac and New here and to pinnacle.  I was looking for this as well, I am doing a commercial video and wanted to crop the video to eliminate some of  the outside edges of the video.

If I'm understanding this correctly - you are saying this is not a feature in pinnacle for general video editing, but only for PIP?

I assume there is no ability to crop it in PIP and make the PIP take up the full screen?

I guess the only other way would be to have a border overlayed around the edges?

    Thanks for helping a newbie...

Yes, you can do that. IMHO it might be easier if you open the plug-in interface of PIP rather than using the "dragging handles" approach if you want to do both a resize and a crop You can also apply a PIP to video on the main track.

PIP is only available on Studio Plus and Ultimate. If you have the standard version, there is a free plug-in you can use called JPs transform HERE
