Dazzle DVC 130 doesn't work on Windows Vista 64

    Dazzle DVC 130 doesn't work on Windows Vista 64

    I'm trying to get the device drivers for the DVC 130 working on Vista 64

     
    Your driver page (here: http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Hardware_Installer/readmeHW10.htm) currently only lists a 32 bit driver for  the DVC 130, when I try and install that I get a dialog with this error message:

    ##IDS_DIFX_X86##

    From searching the forum it seems the same problem is experienced by your customers with the DVC 170: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/149403/ShowThread.aspx 

    The DVC130 shows up in the Windows Control panel. 

     
    Your marketing page lists the DVC 130 as 'Works with Vista', it would be more honest to say 'Works with Vista 32' at the moment.  Is there any workaround or ETA on a 64 bit driver?

    My system spec is as follows:

    Vista 64 Ultimate
    Dazzle DVC 130 Rev: 1.2
    Intel Core2 Quad Q600
    4GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (2GB RAM)

    What happens when you try to capture? Have you tried using the latest 32bit drivers to run it in 32bit mode?

    When I try and capture the DVC isn't listed as an available capture device which isn't surprising since the device driver didn't install.  I've tried the latest 32 bit drivers and they fail to install with the error message listed in my previous post.

    I tried to install my DVC 170 two days ago and also have the same problem. Error code ##IDS_DIFX_X86## with the 32 bit driver. I checked for a solution all over the forum to no avail so far. I just called tech support asking them when a 64 bit driver will be available and was put on hold while he checked. He said he was very sorry but he "couldn't tell me that information."  So I asked him if they're at least in the process of creating the driver...put on hold again while he checked. Again, "very sorry that he couldn't tell me that information." He said all he could do is email me if the driver becomes available.

    On the driver download page there are quite a few 64 bit drivers available for other devices, but not ours. I have to wonder, especially after the unsatisfactory tech support call, if they don't intend to create the drivers at all. Think of how many people with new 64 bit systems are going to purchase these unsupported devices only to find out after hours of problem solving, they're out of luck.  If I had the time I'd write reviews at sites like Amazon, Best Buy, Curcuit City, Buy.com, etc., suggesting they first check here for 64 bit driver availability before purchasing . I'm not pleased to say the least.

    Thanks Marc.  Hate to say it but I can't wait around too long for the driver wondering if I should return the package and try another product dishing out more cash than I had planned to.  I have increasing footage of VHS-C tape I need to capture and edit.  I'll sit tight for a bit.

    I just forwarded the thread to engineering yesterday, usual turn around time for to get a response from them should be about 24-48 hours depending on the rarity of the issue. I will post an update and send you a PM as soon as I get word from them.

    We do not have an ETA on a fix, but the work around shows all images.  

     

    Jon - that FAQ is on "Missing images in the Help file".  This thread isn't about that, is it?

     

    The only FAQ that I know of about Vista and Pinnacle hardware on S11 is this one, which very definitely says that the DVC 130 isn't, never has been, and (presumably) won't be supported under Vista64.  Same-same with the DVC 170, apparently.

    Unless the FAQ is wrong, of course...

     Yeah, sorry was looking at two threads and posted to the wrong one.

     

    As far as I know, that FAQ is still correct about 64 bit drivers for the DVC 130 but I am checking to confirm.

    I appreciate you taking an interest and forwarding the thread. Judging from Jon's and Bittmann's posts I'd better start looking for something else to capture with.  It's obvious that the phone tech support people are seriously lacking in knowledge of Pinnacle/Avid's product issues, or just being outright elusive when they're cornered with compatibility issues.  My experience here (in the forum) has been exceptional though.

    I share exactly the same problem, i'm sending mine back and buying something else if it doesn't get fixed in time.

    I'm getting pretty tired of products claiming to work with vista when in reality, they only half work.

    No I gave up on a reply and eventually used an old machine running XP to capture the videos I needed.
