I recently completed a new PC dedicated to editing, and successfully moved 2 projects from the old PC to the new PC via the Back-up and Restore functions (woohoo). I completed the editing and successfully burned the 1st, smaller and less complex project to DVD. Once I finished the editing on the 2nd project, I found that I could not burn a DVD, or even create a file--AVI, WMV, Quicktime--nothing. Since there have been several threads recently focused on people building new PCs, I figured that I would expose my stupidity in the hopes that it saves someone some agony.
- On the old PC, I had installed and used a VST Audio Equalizer and had failed to install the Equalizer on the new PC.
- (this is really dumb) I have a good collection of SmartSound libraries, and the project used a track from a library that I had not installed yet.
Once I cleaned these 2 problems up--SUCCESS! Just thinking, I wonder if this extends to add-on filters and transitions, DVD templates, TitleDeko styles, and a bunch of other things.

We learn many more from mistakes than from success. I have learned a lot from failure. In fact I am learning all the time.
Thanks for sharing.

As we are sharing our mistakes right now, I thought I´d make you laugh a little, actually we had a comic thread about this some time ago at the forum, maybe I should need one of those things.
We here at the forum uses a lot of discs, dvd and cd, now even bluray, I was capturing old vinyl discs, editing the audio and putting them on cd.
I had built myself a very nice structure with different folders and so, real well planned and I burnt my discs.
However, when I started listening to my cd discs i thought it was someting missing and it really was, I had forgot that the vinyl discs has 2 sides .........

Fred,
Thanks for sharing this, I'll file this one away. Thomas Edison has a saying that I really like and I always keep that one close.
" I never made a mistake, I just figured out a million ways not to do it"

FYI...
When upgrading to a new PC there is a program available that I've used several times and which has added weeks to my life.
PC Mover. Install your operating system, then install PCMover on the new and old machine, Start the program on each machine and follow the instructions. You must have Networking or they can be networked via a USB networking system that comes with the "shipped" version.
Anyway, once the process is complete the new machine is ready to go with all programs and features installed.

Thanks Andy,
Microsoft has a good and free program that does the same and can also use just about any method for the transfer--including the network. I used it very successfully for the new Vista laptop I bought my wife. Her old one was XP. She lost nothing. Whew!
In my case, I did not want to transfer much of anything as the new PC is dedicated to editing only. Avid Liquid Suite, Adobe Production Suite, Nero, Digital Juice, and Sonic Fire are the only applications I have installed.
