    Green Transitions?

In Studio 10 When I play my movies, any of the transitions I use become light green and choppy. Any solution?

    Re: Green Transitions?

Maybe (might be your video card is unable to run Studio).

If you'd post your computer's specs (paying special attention to your video subsystem), maybe someone could point out an obvious deficiency.  And barring any deficiencies, maybe it's a simple "you need to update your driver" issue, or some such.

But all of that is mere supposition until you post your system specs.

The good news:  There is likely a solution.  We just don't know what it is yet...Embarrassed

    Re: Green Transitions?

    Vista or XP?

Some users have reported severe problems using the 8xxx-series NVIDIA cards...it may be something going on with the DirectX 10 support in both ATI and NVIDIA  cards.  Seems to give Studio indigestion, anyhow.

I wonder -- if you check nvidia.com for drivers, if you'll find any...and I also wonder if fiddling with your computer's graphics acceleration may yield any results (some folks have reported good results, others not-so-good).

And also:  If you're using Background Rendering (or maybe even if you're not!), you may want to try to "File/Delete Auxiliary Files".  This will clear out anything that Studio has "prerendered", and make it render it again.  That *may* help if you find that you've fixed your problem, but some transitions stubbornly remain green.

And in the meantime:  I'll back out of here and see if anyone who has fought this and won can stop by.

    Re: Green Transitions?

I updated my drivers and still no dice. I also noticed that the Fade Out/In works but is choppy, it is the only one that doesnt turn green that ive used.

    Still waiting(/hopeing) for a solution.

    Re: Green Transitions?

Try turning off hardware acceleration from Video and audio properties. See if the "choppiness" improves. I tried checking Studio 10.7 on a P4, 1gb ram geforce fx 5200 card and its choppy with hardware acceleration, when its disabled it works much faster.

    Re: Green Transitions?

I tried that and it made the video become fairly laggy and the quality suffered.

Did it still chop up on the effects?

Try using the latest forceware release.

    Re: Green Transitions?

It would appear that Studio is still dealing with the Green Transition question.  It was believed over a year ago that the green transition was due to several possible causes.

I've done a ton of searches on the issue, and there is still no definite solution to this problem.  Many suggest that you must update to the next verision only to find out that by doing this the problem still exists.

Other solutions given:  1) update drivers, 2) reinstall program  3)  buy a better video card  4)  processor speed to slow  5)  Bit rate  6) Progressive scan 7)  hardware acceleration (on/off)  8)  Try creating a AVI file  9)  Try recapturing your project, since it's corrupt  10)  one which I suggest, try outputing to a DV tape and reimport the new DV material.

The only solution that I have found to the Green Transition question has been #10.

This is a workaround, and time consuming to say the least, but for those who have tried repeatedly to correct a project with green transitions, this is a 99% cure to your problem.

Instead of making a AVI, MPEG, or DVD, all of which have not corrected the problem for me, the "output to tape" option works every time.

ADDED LATER:After you have successfully captured your finished project to a DV tape, then reintroduce it back to a new project, rename it, and then add your menu, and other segments that you desire.  At this point you should be able to Make DVD, MPEG, or AVI files without the troublesome green transitions

The green slices are due to a glich in the Studio Program.  This problem has been around since Studio 9 and I don't understand why it's not been better identified, and a better solution found to fixing the problem once and for all.

Hope this work-around helps someone who is at their wits end.

It took me weeks of research to save a project of my daughter wedding.  When you put a year into a project and have complicated effects, transitions, timing, 5 camera views, it's not nice when someone suggests that you start all over.

That was not a option in my opinion.

    Re: Green Transitions?

This issue came up for me while I tried to put together a small, 3 minute slide show which included various transitions. In the first two minutes the transitions worked. But in the last part, they appeared green and the sound and pictures were shaky. Following Jubilee's work-around I got ready to output to tape. I noticed that the rendering process for transitions took longer for tape output, so after the rendering finished, but before outputting to tape, I thought I would try to create an mpeg-2 file (which I had done before with the same problem on the transitions). The file played flawlessly - which made me think I could write directly to DVD. I tried this and the green transition issue was gone. It seems that the "output to tape" rendering process had fixed the issue, and I didn't have to complete the actual output to tape process and import it back. This is still an awkward way to fix this problem and I would be interested in hearing from others who know more, about what is really happening with this transition issue. I noticed that initially as I saved the slide show, small green bars appeared on the time bar above each transition while in timeline view. The bars disappeared chronologically from beginning to end, but not before turning a lighter green from left to right, as if something was being processed. I assumed there must be a connection between these green bars, and the green transition issue post-rendering, but I was still getting the problem, even after waiting for all of the green bars to disappear.

    Re: Green Transitions?

I've had green frames on rendered output but NOT visible on Studio timeline preview, these were mostly the cpu intensive dissolves and PIP effects. That was with an old nvidia 6600 128Mb, but a good opportunity to experiment. This is a real BAD problem after several hours waiting for an AVCHD to render. I now do what others have said - make up a 30 second test project with transitions and test first!

Turning off hardware acceleration produced a green frame on nearly every transition. Studio seems to rely heavily on the Direct X capabilities of your GFX card for rendering, and it's going to have to do this in realtime as the rendering process moves through each frame.

Don't ask me if Studio works with the Direct X version of drivers it came with and possibly not with anything later that may come with a newer card - that's a question for Support! I've discovered that Studio learns parameters from installed hardware at the first install and keeps the same data stored in your registry, even though you change hardware.

I've just installed the heavy weight Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 Mb card, kept the same Direct X drivers Studio loaded with and so far the green frames have not come back. The next upgrade is my mobo and CPU for shorter rendering times. I feel the need for speed.

    Re: Green Transitions?

Thank you Jtate & Jubilee....    that was it, render for tape, then use MPEG or AVI works perfectly.  Wasted 20 hours or more ripping the FX transitions out, putting them back in, uninstalling S12, re-installing S12, pulling hair (what little there is) out, and still having the same problem.

This fixes it.  C'mon Pinnacle, you've got a great product, but its just aggrivating to go through crashes and green transitions.

I did the render for tape, but the only output  choices I have is to my monitor.  How do I get it to a disc?
