    Panasonic HDC-SD9

I recently purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD9.  The packaged software wasn't worth a darn.

So I just purchased Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11.  I can't get the Capture feature to work.  Has anyone else had any luck?  I am wondering if the lack of a firewire connection with the HDC-SD9 is my problem.

Any suggestions to capture the HD content?

Hi and welcome! I have an HDC-SD1. For AVCHD, you don't capture. You just copy the files. You can do this within Studio by clicking File>Import Media from Device and then browse to your SD9 (or card reader).

Another plus for the flash based AVCHD cameras.

HDD camcorders are good for this too...

Of course, if you are looking for spare change, you can use a big magnet to attract the coins.  Perhaps that won't work as well for the cards or tapes!Stick out tongue

[offtopic] Indifferent  That reminded me, will air port/mall metal detectors mess up tapes? I always wanted to find out. [/offtopic]

    Marc,

Unlike film, tapes are magnetic. Bringing tapes near strong magnets (imagine an MRI machine in a hospital), would help rid yourself of info on the tape. Even leaving them near low-level magnetic fields (near a TV for example) for long periods will degrade the information on the tape. x-ray machines for your luggage shouldn't damage the tapes (unlike film). On the other hand, metal detectors, I think operate via magnetic fields (and changes within them) and as such are apt to degrade magnetic media such as DV Tapes with suitable exposure times. Having said that, it probably takes many walk throughs or sitting in the metal deector for extended periods for data loss to occur, but when all is said and done, your tape should be safer in the x-ray machine!

I remember a friend telling me that his PDA got clean wiped after being swiped with a metal detector upon boarding a plane. So I'm also concerned with flash media going through the same risk. Wow, this should be something to watch out for. You wont want to go back to your office after a long shoot in the on a rain forest to find out that you don't have anything to edit.

I don't think that flash memory can be damaged by magnetic field from a metal detector, but it may be damaged, with some probability, by x-ray machine or by cosmic particles aboard the plane at high altitude.

Thank you for your opinion. More opinions here.

Flash media does not use or rely on magnetism in any way.  A magnetic field cannot affect a flash card.
