    A Mercalli Earthquake

I see Mercalli not only stabilizes video but shakes it up as well.

Has anyone tried making a Mercalli Earthquake?

I'm going to need an earthquake in the next couple months and I'm wondering if its a viable "buyable" alternative?

    Re: A Mercalli Earthquake

If you got the Mercalli Pro as I have there is another plugin that comes with it as a bonus called Video Shaker.

    This does exactly that.

You can do this pretty easily using the 2D editor in Liquid.

For the price, it's a steal as a stabilizer and if you need to apply shake that's there, too.  Yes, I've tried the shaker and it works pretty well.  It's a lot easier and quicker than applying keyframed changes in one of the 2D or 3D editors.

The demo allows you to apply the shaker.  Give it a try and be sure to try the deshaker while you're at it.  I think you'll see how useful it is.

The way, I look at Marks question, is that he knows that besides the Mercalli filter, there also is the Shaker. That comes in the same package. Is a kind of free.

It seems to be impossible for him to test this in a demo-version (then there is no shaker?), before buying?

I can't recall, because I have bought the Mercalli filter (and Shaker), so I don't know anymore what was in the demo.

I think he wants to know if somebody has already used the shaker and what the result is.

If the result s good, he will buy Mercalli. If not?

    Re: A Mercalli Earthquake

If memory serves me correctly, (and at my age it's questionnable) the Shaker program was a part of the Mercalli download.  A quick email to ProDad would confirm this.  Their response time is very quick.

The site says the Shaker is in the demo.  Check the link in my earlier post.

The Shaker does come with Mercalli.

The shaker works pretty well, you may have to tweek the sliders a bit for best result.
I think for the earthquake fx the sound track importance might exceed the importance of shaking the video.
what you can't do with low $ visuals, do with MTV style quick pans momentarily freezing on close terrified faces whilest
low frequency audio grinds away. Use the 5.1 surround here- huge.

    Re: A Mercalli Earthquake

I agree with John, with the earthquake fx's sound is a huge factor. I did some weeks of work trying to per_fect a shot with a local bridge and some 3d fog rolling in getting hit bye an earthquake. I found that getting the audio set correctly was the hardest part, I was working with Boris Red and the BBC pluggins, there is an earthquake effect that does the job seemlessly. Using Boris as a pluggin with AL I first used Liquid for the audio, but found in the long run that doing the audio in a external program was easier.

My point, when doing low budget fx's as John pointed out, the audio is super important, 5.1 surround is a big plus in this area. Shaking the video is pretty easy matter which way you do it, getting the shot set up for the effect, tweaking the sound and using some slick style of filming intro/outro shots is where the magic is made, IMHO:-)
