Well you see, this is what people just aren't getting. Liquid is EOL. There is no reason in the world to update that list and if it does get updated, then it will be the first time I have ever seen a company update a hardware list on a EOL product and should be considered as a total bonus.

    Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

Just as a reminder, here's the starting post for this thread:

    drjohnnybrew:
Is the DirectX10 patch almost ready - really need this patch asap - do not want to purchase another graphic card. Please respond with something.

The short answer to this one is "It's being worked on, it's more than just a patch, and we don't have a timeframe for when it will be delivered."

We also have 4 pages of responses arguing about the benefits/problems with different cards, reiterations of posts about why DX10 cards don't work, commentaries on how poor HDV performance is with underpowered AGP based cards, AVID/Pinnacle/industry policies and procedures, etc. etc. etc.

And the short answer is still "It's being worked on, it's more than just a patch, and we don't have a timeframe for when it will be delivered." Do we really need all the rest?

I'm locking this post (not the thread) as a pointed suggestion to the answer. If you feel you need to respond, you can do so to another post in the thread. And if you absolutely feel the need to respond, ask yourself the question "Why?" before hitting the Post button.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

    Jan,

Are you looking only for users with DirectX10 cards? If so I will upgrade to a ATI DX 10 card as well.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

Exactly Ed, I had about the same thoughts, the patch for the render engine must both be able to handle the DX10 compliant cards and the certified ones, I have the 7800 gtx on my second sys, so I could use the same project and compare, no complaints to the betatesters afterwards hopefully.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

FYI, they are looking for testers with both DX9 and DX10 cards to make sure the patch works for both.

Does that mean that 1 user has to have both, or are the looking for users with one or the other?

One or the other or even both.

We need Nvidia users as some ATI's already works.

No they don´t, not with XP as OS, at least no card that I know about, I might be wrong, tell me one that works, you can Pm me to not change the subject of the tread.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

You mean that even 2900 can't work in XP? I remembered the opposite.

    Forgive my mistake.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

There was a user that said it worked, he was wrong and is not so often in this forum any longer  you can´t remember all that happens  no probs

Comparing the 2900 hd card and the certified 7800 gtx card would be interesting but I of course agree with you, we need some 8xxx users too the testers will of course have knowledge of eachother and be able to send clips to eachother if necessary to compare

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

i HAVE A nVIDIA 8600 GTS DX10 CARD BUT IT IS RUNNING ON vISTA uLTIMATE 32 - i CHANGED over to the Nvidia 7600 in order to use Liquid 7.2 on my vista without all the green stuff happening. So if that is possible I would be willing to Beta test on vista platform.

If I have understood this correct Johnny, and as also have been said by Jan, the test is for XP sp3 as OS.

The patch is for making it possible for the render engine to work correct with a dx 10 compliant card in a dx 9 OS, Vista is a dx 10 os, the patch is not for making it easier for using Liquid in Vista, it might even be the contrary, making it harder to use Liquid in Vista, time will tell and that is why it have to be tested.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

For the users using Vista: will this patch make any difference? Will it make difference in terms of Liquid's performance?

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

In the absence of a specific answer, a beta patch is one that is distributed as an aid for the company to verify that a patch will work as expected
on all systems likely to be encountered. It may or may not cause new problems with a system that is now functioning properly.
The person downloading the patch agrees that they understand the potential for service disruption.
It usually is not recommended to attempt beta patches on a mission critical system.

All projects should either be finished, or backed up so that they can be completed on a secondary system if needed.

Installing a beta patch could require the reinstallation of the application, and possibly a repair of the OS.

This does not usually happen, as patches released for beta have been tested within the company, and are potential release
candidates, nevertherlss, the possibility exists for such mayhem and that must be taken into account by the person agreeing to installing
    the beta.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

As Render Engine will be totally new, it will be good if someone could test this patch in a system with Vista.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

While I am sure Pinnacle is aware that Vista is out there, and Liquid users are using it in some cases, it is UNSUPPORTED and Pinnacle has stated that
Liquid will NOT be certified for Vista.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

As that may be, I suspect the patch will be tested by users of Vista if only to provide a heads-up if the patch actually damages Liquid under Vista....

Very encouraging to see this moving along!

I've e-mailed you with my interest to participate in the BETA testing.
    I have 8600GT, XP sp3, and Liquid 7.2.

Re: Beta Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch

I have the 2900 and would like to use it on my Chrome Xe AJA, Win-XP system. Will this work? I do have a 1950 but if I can get more power from the 2900 then I would like to use it.

And yes Jan, I would like to try the patch. What do I have to lose?

    Thanks,

    Roland

    Tomas,

In another thread Dave Stone said that the ATI 2900 HD board can possibly be made to work with WinXP and Liquid 7.2 by dropping down one notch on the hardware acceleration slider.  This works with some, not necessarily all systems.  So far nobody has actually confirmed that they have repaired an unworkable system by making this change in the video card settings.

I reread this and I want to email Jan. Does anyone have Jans email address handy. I made a note about this in the pinned thread he has about emailing him and not private messaging him as well.

    Thanks,

    Ed
