Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Once again:
So, the point of this conversation, the way I see it, is not whether to spend some hard earned money for a temporary solution, but whether we will or will NOT have this long awaited patch.
Some input from Avid/Pinnacle would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
michaelshk,
The answer to your question is simply "Yes". We will be getting a patch, but we don't know exactly when. It is being worked on and tested as we speak. Near the top of this discussion thread, Lew Schatzer wrote the following:
"There has been plenty of communication on this issue. They are currently working on a patch to address this. It is still not fixed. The last I heard from Jan about two weeks ago he wrote:
DX10 and DX9 are totally different, we are going as fast as we can but it is a slog. I wish it was a simple fix but it's not."

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Hey guys (and Gals) out there. I have been away from the boards for a long time now... but I thought I'd do some checking on what video card to get if I wanted to upgrade from my nVidia 7800 GT 256 card.
I have a ASUS P5WD2 MB and my new quad core 6600 CPU is not recognized by this MB. So, I'm going to rebuild and get a new MB now... and most likely DDR3 Ram as well.
When was Liquid updated last? Forever ago?
The only real issues I've had with LE is the pixel jumping at FX or transistions, but that was only at times. Also poor alpha working compared to Premiere PRO. But other than that, I love doing my multi camera cutting in Liquid. There's none easier.
So, back to the VIDEO CARD DX10 issues... I really think we are at the end of any more upgrades with this product? I may be wrong, but man it sure looks like they are not putting anymore into this line for us. Why should they?
Ussually if they want to make money (and that;s their purpose), they redesign a spftware and sell it as an upgrade all together with some new features. I really think they do not wish to keep fighting the little querks in LE.
Just my 2cents after being with Pinnacle for many years now. I started with the PRO ONE in 1999.
I just have to decide if upgrading my card to an ATI 1950 is worth it over my 7800 card? Especially if a "Patch" come out here for DX10.
Oh well, life goes on... and on.. and on. Nothing new under the sun.
Have fun!
My projects are coming in May! So lots of Liquid time for me is coming

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
My friend welcome back. I missed you. I hope you are ok, 1950 512MB is a very powerful card, In fact is the top of the DX9 cards. But if your 7800 is working ok, just stay there. You have missed a lot of episodes. 7.2 is the latest version and will be till the DX10 patch comes. I also thing Mutlicam is very good and fast in Liquid and I will miss it. Now we are waiting for some next gem, just read some. Welcome back MyMax.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Thanks George! It's been awhile.
So, I'm about to order a ne MB, what do you Think? Your ABIT works good?
I do have 7.2
I think I'll keep my 7800GT for now... I have it water cooled, so why not keep using it for a bit longer.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
IP35 Pro has received numerous awards. The thing that is more important from everything else is that is rock solid. When I am working (and even if I am not) the PC is open for over 12 hours a day. No problem. With a Quad Core or Duo 2 Core you will see a totally new Liquid. It's almost 4-5 faster than my older P4 3G.
I am happy that we have you back here.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
After reading news of dx10 patch for liquid I decided not to bother with doing duel boot system on new pc .So now I'm inline with rest waitting on patch. The video card I have now in this system is pretty low end as video cards go.If maybe we could get news on which Dx10 card munic is working on atleast I could upgrade and run the rest of my programs faster while we wait.Any news would greatly be apreciated.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
The depressing thing about this whole patch thing is, IMHO, the fact that no one from Pinnacle even takes time to post anything here. The only information so far available seems to come from some private exchanges between Lew and Munich. Wierd way to run a Railway.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Gerry (wires),
Jan has said in other discussions that Munich is working on the Dx10 patch for Liquid in WinXP (http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/132738.aspx) and Lew Schatzer has confirmed in this thread that it is currently being tested, along with an explanation of why it is taking so long (Dx10 is complicated).
How much more information do you need? We all are waiting for it (I am on hold with a new computer until the patch becomes available), but we also want Munich to make sure that it is working well before they release it. Can you hear the howls of indignation if the patch is released prematurely and it doesn't work in some configurations? Been there, done that!

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Yes a lot of times at the past things went wrong when pushed. I think Pinnacle learned that lesson.

George, you can't push this turltle any faster. Updates are so far apart from each other, there is no real excuse.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
I'm not for one second doubting the information provided here by LewS and other Mods. I just find it somewhat strange that Pinnacle employees don't seem to show up around here. That this forum is basically being moderated by a small dedicated group of users in their "free time" is not something to be ignored, and those sacrificing their free time on our behalf deserve only respect.
Been there done that, I've been through enough of that with Studio - and it's the reason that I've upgraded to Liquid, but - and it's a big but IMO:
The Studio forums are moderated by Pinnacle employees who can, sometimes, be called to task when things don't go the way they are supposed to - or promised. It's one brave user that would even dream of calling a Mod. here to task for something he has no way of changing.
Pinnacle haven't said, AFAIK, that a patch is even being Beta tested outside of a Lab. Nobody knows 100% if they aren't all tied up in the current Studio 12 Beta that's being run behind closed doors at the moment.
They killed the promised Studio 9.5 patch for the disaster that was Studio 10 - and left that one at 10.8 for Studio 11, which at 11.2 still isn't perfect - and may die a painful death as a result of S 12.
Been there done that, correct - and been bitten too many times waiting for a promise to be kept.
I don't think that Pinnacle have learned any lessons, if they had then Studio would be the Home NLE that it should be - without any competition

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
I think they are better now. If I judge from 7.2 that took so long to come and it was brilliant. People do not forget. We were saying the same things before the 7.2. That it will never be released, and it was released and it was marvelous.
And I think that Studio has the biggest share in the market alone.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Hi Jan,
Since you recognise my ham call, are a ham too? I have had my ham license since my University years and was using the call sign as my password on the old Avid Liquid forum. When this one came along, it wouldn't let me in under the old ID and password, so I re-registered using my call sign as the ID.
I am still involved with radio communications through the B.C. provincial emergency program and the local amateur radio club when I am not editing with Liquid.

Jan, have you had a chance to check in to the DVD and Keyframe issues I posted for you?

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
I have no doubt that the team in Munich is working on the patch. However, I often wonder how many of the Munich team is left? I mean, if I were them, I would be working on my resume pretty heavily. Or, is it Munich that is working on this next generation thing?

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Just so you know, the team in Munich works on Studio and Liquid. They share the same code base and the fix for Liquid is also required for Studio. As Jan said, they are working on it. They are also working on Nexgen. I think they are pretty busy right now.
No matter how many times people ask or how much useless speculation is posted on the forum, the patch will be delivered when it works.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
That's good news, Lew. I am all for software that works, and I am NOT being facetious here. I really hate it when something gets rushed out to meet some deadline and then causes all kinds of frustration. Win XP before SP1 and Liquid 7.0 are examples of this.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Absolutely. 6.0 and 7.0 were prime examples of what results from putting out a product before it is ready. Also, having been through the beta testing on both those products, I can tell you that the making changes to the 3D render engine can cause all sorts of unexpected problems elsewhere in the program. Better to wait and get it right or at least as good as possible.

What is that problem with the 3d engine that I am not aware of?

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
Well, good. I was worried that the Munich guys were out of a job since their baby has outgrown the company and is becoming orphaned. At least they still have product to work on! (i.e. Studio & NG)

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
All we ask for Jan. is a headsup once in a while to know things are still in process. a while back, we were expecting a Vista version that never appeared despite assurances that it would... so at times, we can be a bit suspicious when time goes by with nothiing said.

Re: Liquid 7.2 DirectX10 Patch
I asked a status update from our Munich team on the patch. As you all know they are still working on this and it seems not easy. But they promised me an update will come. Only no date known yet on this moment. Direct-x 10 is a completely different system compared with the earlier versions. Microsoft even thought about giving it a different name to show the architectural differences. We keep you updated.
Thank you all for your patients so far.
