Idea [I] Make Movie: A solution for double codec entries

    Greetings;

I am (re) posting this question as I was unable to deduce a solution from the many posts that were initiated in May 2007. Any solution? Does Pinnacle care to address such a common problem?

    Thanks, Noushin

A solution for double codec entries yet?

    Not yet...Sad

What's even worse:  Looks like "Double-Codec" has struck in Studio 10 version 10.8 -- and as Pinnacle has already announced that there will be no further updates to Studio 10, it doesn't look like this will be fixed for any S10 users.

And furthermore -- so we have a problem that is known and evident (and can cause render crashes and hangs)...one that we know that will never be fixed in S10...one that we know a workaround for (use the "other copy") -- yet still Pinnacle fails to address this problem in a user FAQ.  Sad

Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

I knew there had to be an easy solution! Congrats on the user who found it!  If this does work for those that have been stricken, this should be a sticky! "Sadly", my double entries went away a short time ago after repatching, so I can't (don't want to) try it out.

Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

    fehlmann:

    Hello,

Many users reported ‘double entries’ issues when launching Studio by double-clicking on the project file (.stx), a shortcut based on it (.lnk), or a restart of Studio following a crash and without choosing to restore last used project. It has been identified that in these particular circumstances Studio does rebuild some internal data likely if it was used for the first time and needed to self-reinstall. This is why you’re getting double entries. In this case, each 2nd entry (the double) must be not used otherwise you might crash Studio. Such behavior has been reproduced as well on fresh Window and Studio installs but doesn’t occur systematically. As well, applying the latest Studio patch might resolve the issue but not always.

You might want to try below workaround if you have currently these double entries..
     - exit Studio
    - look for following file (folder names can slightly differ): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 11\programs\Sites\COMPUTER_NAME\Settings\Settings.vst
    - check the size; this file is incorrect if the size exceed 1000ko. If yes, delete it! (the normal size is around 650ko). In fact there is several files with this name, please delete only if size over 1000ko.

    - start Studio without opening a project; he will re-create automatically this file with correct data
    - done!

Once this file re-created correctly by Studio, you might want to change it’s attributes to “Read Only”. This way, the problem will not show up again, or just temporarily if Studio started in the ‘wrong’ way (then you just need to exit from Studio and restart normally without opening a project). As this file is not supposed to be updated ‘’Read Only’’, it’s recommended to unwind this attribute prior upgrading Studio. Main thing is that Studio has legitimate rights to update it (install, new export formats, etc.). Here we are just looking to prevent inopportune updates.

This tip already received good feedback on French forum. I’m very excited to hear from you.

Great tip fehlmann. Pinned for us in the English section.

Feedback too will be very much appreciated guys.

Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

I found the file in the Vista location: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 11\programs\Sites\"Nameofcomputer"\Settings. However, my file size is 1.26 MB. I do not have the double codec problem (anymore). This is over the 1000kB suggestion.

Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

I do not have the double codecs at this time. (But I never allow the doubles to stay, I immediately image back to better times)

In XP, the file size is 650 KB as Fehlmann said it would be.

I'll save this for future reference, in case of doubles. Big Smile

Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

I have had double codecs for some time. Tried fehlmann's idea and it worked great. No more doubles.

Thank you fehlmann. My kbs were over 1000.

    I have XP SP2.

Wow ! Two fixes in one week. First the sound and now this.

Betreft: Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

Working on a Vegas project I had the courage to manipulate studio into the double entries.
With this tip it was very easy to remove them.

I'll be forwarding this workaround to Engineering and see what they can say/do about it.

    Thanks for this fix Remy.

Re: Betreft: Re: Make Movies: A solution for double codec entries yet?

    Thanks Marc.

As a general rule, I invite every people with interesting topic to contact us through our contact page, so we can publish their tutorial or tip & trick. We publish everything which is Pinnacle Studio or proDAD related.
My website regarding Pinnacle Studio is alive since beginning of 2004, had a major refreshment beginning of 2008 and I intend to keep it up and running with plenty of good stuff. It's always better to have a tutorial published on a website instead of flooded somewhere in a forum post. My goal is not to replace or supplanting Pinnacle forum, but to keep some pages with good tips & tricks.

It's this webboard's way of intermixing "Re:" between languages.  You'll probably also see "Aw:" out there as well.  Neither has anything to do with fixing double-codec entries, though...  Wink
