Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
I have been trying for days now to install the MovieBox USB hardware that came with my Studio v.9.1 software (packaged together). After finally re-installing Studio (in SAFE mode, because it wouldn't load any other way), I now have an operating version of Studio, but the Porsche-designed (flat, square, fan-less) Moviebox USB hardware will simply not install correctly.
Windows XP Professional (SP.2) recognises that I have connected a MovieBox USB (it names it in the 'new device connected' dialogue), but then informs me that there has been an error in loading the device, and I'm back to square one again, with Studio not recognising that the hardware is connected. Device Manager in Windows tells me that no driver is loaded, and displays an error flag against the MovieBox device.
I've downloaded and run the PCLEUSB.exe utility, and although it tells me that it has run successfully, there's still no joy with installing the hardware.
Can any one out there make any other suggestions?
Cheers, Andy.

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
Does this post from the old webboard help any? That "Mother May I" is pretty specific...if Windows latches on to the wrong device driver, it's hard to get it to "let go"... Welcome to the webboard, Andy! BittMann

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
BittMann,
Thanks for that advice. I'm pretty sure that that sequence was one that I tried, but the variations all begin to blur after a while! I'll try it later before I give up completely. BTW, I notice that your PC spec at the time showed that you were running XP Professional with SP1, do you think that would have made any difference to the system's recognition of the hardware. SP2 seems to be more demanding in many ways!
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
Well, the old webboard a little behind on my profile, evidently. I upgraded this XP pro laptop to SP2 a few months back (it is a "work laptop", and for reasons of compatibility I couldn't update all of my test platforms to SP2 until my users' machines were all updated) -- but all users were updated mid-year last year, so I updated to SP2 late in the year. Bottom line: I don't see any difference, CPU usage or otherwise, between SP1 and SP2 when capturing via the MovieBox USB. Firewire capture *was* impacted for some with the SP2 update (e.g. some MovieBox DV owners), but USB seemed largely unaffected, here. BittMann

Marcus,
Thanks for the suggestion. It is one that I tried already, but may go back to one final time if BittMann's little sequence does not work for me.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
BittMann, A supplemental question... How do I know if I've got the right device driver? I seem to have downloaded several over the past few days, and a couple of them have been quite a bit larger than others, but they all call themselves PCLEUSB.exe. Is there a version number that is identified only with the Hardware Installer that works with Studio v9 (NB NOT Studio Plus) and MovieBox USB? (May be out of contact for a day or so, Norton 360 has self-destructed and needs to be re-installed!) Andy

Well, the only driver that I *know* works in S9 is the PCLEUSB.exe file from the S9 downloads page.

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
The worrying thing is, that when you run that file, it tells you that it will instal drivers for the MovieBox USB_B. From some of the other postings, I thought USB_B is the MovieBox Deluxe version - am I wrong?
Whatever, sadly, when I went through the 'mother-may-i' sequence, I still ended up with the same blunt 'NO' from my system which tells me that 'the data is invalid'.
Is there any alternative to binning my expensive bit of Pinnacle junk-hardware?
Thanks for all your help,
Andy

No, the MovieBox Deluxe uses a completely different driver. Now -- "The data is invalid" -- that's the first time that you've mentioned that exact quote. When does this happen? When trying to install the drivers? When plugging in the MovieBox? When going to Capture mode? BittMann

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
Hi, The sequence is that I plug in the MovieBox USB, and the first thing ofcourse is that Windows XP tels me that it has detected a new USB device. Then the same dialogue box ('Found New Hardware' - bottom right) tells me that it has recognised it's a Pinnacle Systems Moviebox USB device, and almost instantaneously, the splash screen for the 'Found New Hardwarre Wizard@ apears and tels me:
" Cannot install the hardware
There was a problem installing the hardware - USB Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The data is invalid
Click finish to close the Wizard "
When I click 'finish', the 'Found new Hardware' dialogue changes to read" A problem occurred during installation your new hardware might not work properly". How right it is!
The device manager shows an unknown USB device with no drivers installed.
Back to you! Andy

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
Well, that's exactly what that "mother may I" set of steps was supposed to solve. I suppose the other route would be to open the hardware manager and uninstall the MovieBox device, unplug the MovieBox, reboot the system, install the drivers, reboot the system (for luck -- shouldn't be required), and then plug the MovieBox in and see what happens. Sometimes, Windows will latch onto the "wrong" driver for a device, and when it does so, it's a real bugbear to get it to forget the "wrong" driver and use the "right" one. Unfortunately. BittMann

Re: Studio MovieBox USB ver.9 not recognised by Studio 9.4
I haven't tried that driver, but it does say that it is for Studio vers 10 & 11, not for 9.4.3 which is what I'm currently running. What makes you think that it might work for the earlier Studio version? Are they supposed to be backwards compatible? Andy

They should be.
