You may want to be sure which one you delete since it may be used in your project. If you no longer need it then you can delete them. 

i was wondering if the software could do a search for me and identify doublers for me ... thanks

No the software can not. It's not a file managing software.

I think that you are using "copy" in the import instead of using "link" which won't be duplicating your videos, pictures, etc.
