    Highest quality video media

After making a movie, I export it to YouTube and it comes out very clear, just as I recorded it. But when I make a DVD it loses some of the quality. It gets a little soft.

Any suggestions? I am using DVD-R discs. Temporarily out of BluRay and cannot find AVCHD discs.

If your source is HD, it's normal that you lose some quality on a DVD because it's SD. There is nothing you can do against it unless burn a AVCHD structure on a DVD. But some players may not be able to read it.

SAby, Thanks. That is sort of what I thought.

When I put in a DVD and burn AVCHD to it, the drive just spins and it seems to not be doing anything. I have let it spin for over an hour and it is still spinning but nothing seems to be recording.

In your Burning drive or when you try to play it? An AVCHD format disk burned to a DVD disc will only play on a Blu-ray player.

My understanding is that he can't burn the disk :

Agreed, but there is a slight ambiguity in the post, so I though it was worth checking.

Correct, I can't burn the disc.

Have you tried exporting your project as an ISO and then burning to DVD?

My suggestion would be to create a disc image as a VIDEO_TS folder (makes it easy to use media players such as VLC to check that the DVD image plays, the menu navigation works as intended, etc.). Then use third-party software such as ImgBurn to burn to disc (you'll have more control over the burning settings, and possibly better troubleshooting information if the disc still doesn't burn...)
