    Sub divide shots in library

I wish to select several camera angles from a 5min take. Can I edit several short separate sections from this take to make quicker identification in the libray?

    Yes.

Open the clip in the Library before you put it on the timeline - it will appear in the corrections editor. Now set the calipers for the In and Out points for section 1 and then use the file drop-down to Save as new shortcut. reset the In and out points and repeat as required. (I and O work as In and Out point shortcuts).

If you are using Bins you will need to copy the new shortcuts from the Library Media section to the bin you want to use.

Added - you can also create scenes, but it can be less convenient.

Re: Sub divide shots in library

Thanks for that. Must be doing something wrong, achieved first shortcut then selecting second shot caused it to replace first shortcut, also original lenghy  shot disappeared. In summary all I achieved was one short shot.

What I want in project bin is the original shot plus two shorter clips fo easy selection.

Is there a way I can move the bin frames around to change the order on screen.

    Thanks

The new shortcuts don't appear in the project bin. They will appear in the same media folder as the source file with (1), (2), appearing after the file names. If you want to use bins you need to drag them to the bin.

Sorry to appear thick but can you please explain the exact location of your explanation below.

Sorry to appear thick but can you please elaborate on the location of the source file ( Media Folder ???) where the shortcuts will appear?

Are you using Studio 19 or an earlier version? Are you using Bins?

Re: Sub divide shots in library

I am using Vers 19.1.2.299 . Having just moved from Corell I am still trying to get my head around what is a vastly improved system.   I assume I am using bins , clearly labelled project bins.

I am importing my files straight from a SD card that I have transferred directly into my PC

    Attachment: Library Media.jpg

When you imported the file, it would have been copied to your hard drive and will exist in a folder. This isn't the same as a Bin, which is just a virtual location.

If you can't see Library Media in the Asset tree, you can get it to show up be enabling Watchfolders in the Control panel, without actually defining any folders.

Re: Sub divide shots in library

I think I have sorted it thanks for you patience. All my attempts now show with numbers after them. The watchfolder enable/disable folder button is very easy to mistake in reverse.  If it was not for your jpeg I would not have known what to look for.   Could not find this explanation anywhere in the manual.  Thanks again.

Re: Sub divide shots in library

I'm afraid that when they introduced Bins in version 19 they really didn't take into account some of Studio's advanced features. I prefer to use Collections or just work from the hard disc folders. Glad you have found them!

ADDED - and don't forget it's easy to rename them in the Library to give them more meaningful names.

Re: Sub divide shots in library

Nothing has fundamentally changed - in fact, you can now, can you explain what part of this thread has returned as a problem? Is it the Library media folder you can't find in the sidebar?

Re: Sub divide shots in library

You are correct in your assumption that I cannot identify the library media folder.

Re: Sub divide shots in library

I have enabled Library Media in the PS23 library by enabling watchfolders (without any folders being specified) so that's the same as 19. You can also open a Library media tab be clicking on any timeline clip by right-clicking and selecting Find In Library.
