Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate keeps crashing when I click on "Export"

    Hello,

    Here are the specs:

Dell Inspiron XPS8930 PC with 16Gb ram, Samsung EVO 970 256 Gb SSD HD (C: drive),  regular 1 Tb HD s as D: drive, NVIDIA GTX1050ti and internal Intel Graphics 630 video cards, Windows 10 64bit V1809.

I have installed Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate on the D: drive.  All my apps are on the D: drive to save some swapping on the SSD drive, since it is only 256 Gb. However, the render directory has been left on the C:\users\AppData directory. PS 22 has also been updated to the latest version V22.3.

Whatever video clip I import in the software (any format; MP4, M2TS, etc.), every time I click on the "Export" tab, Pinnacle Studio 22 keeps crashing.  I've tried a lot of video file types, and it just keeps crashing after a few seconds when I click on "Export". The video files plays fine either in the Import tab,or on the timeline of the software when imported.  They just cannot be exported, It crashes every time.

I've read a couple of similar topics in here, and I have also tried to revert back the drivers of both video cards (the external NVIDIA and the internal Intel 630 cards).  No luck, still the same.

I was using Corel VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 before, and never have experienced something similar. Now I'm stuck with PS22.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Re:Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate keeps crashing when I click on "Export"

Hi and welcome to this forum.

    I suggest a complete resetting of PS22.

Rename the C:\Users\Yourusername\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_22\Studio folder to C:\Users\Yourusername\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_22\Studio.old and restart Studio.

    Hello / bonjour Saby,

Thanks for the reply.   I've tried what you suggested.  The demo "Sky is the limit" clip has loaded itself in the timeline.  But I got the same results, when I tried to export the "Sky is the limit" demo, the software still crashed after a few seconds.

All of your programs must be installed in c drive to work well. You can store all your documents in d drive and work from there.

How much free space do you have on c drive.

Windows 10 version is already 1903, so you may want to consider updating it if not done so. (make sure you backup your files before updating).

Re: Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate keeps crashing when I click on "Export"

Well, I tried uninstalling all PS22 ultimate components and reinstalling them on the C: drive; but the installation program doesn't allow to change the destination drive to make it C:.

I remember a while back when I was using PS9 and 11, there was a complete uninstaller utility that would completely remove all traces of an installation including registry settings.  I guess I would need such an utility to remove all traces of the current installation, so that I can reinstall everything on the C: drive.  Does such an utility exists for PS22 ?  Or how, / what I can do to achieve this ?

I must say, however, that I do not understand why PS22 would absolutely have to be installed on the C: drive.  If it would be the case, why would the install program allow the installation to be made on another drive than the C: one, to begin with ?  Also, my current installation of Corel VideoStudio 2018 is also on my D: drive (same than the current install of PS22), and that one does work and does not crash.  I've tried yesterday to do on VideoStudio what I wanted to do with PS22, and everything worked just fine.  So in theory PS22 should work the same on my D: drive.

I have about 150 Gb free space on C:.

    Thanks

Re: Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate keeps crashing when I click on "Export"

Ok so I managed to uninstall completely everything related to PS22, by removing manually the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Avid\Studio 22 key with RegEdit, and deleting all PS22 related directories in c:\users\<myusername>\AppData\local\ and on both C: and D: drives.

After that,  I've used the Pinnacle-Studio_22 Installer.exe to enter my serial number and to only download all the needed install files in a temp directory. After, since I was afraid that using  Pinnacle-Studio_22 Installer.exe would not allow me to select a new destination on the C: drive, I've installed both PS22 and PS22 standard using their respective .msi install files that were in the temp directory, and making sure that their destination were on the C: drive.  After I made sure that these new files were indeed on C:, I loaded Pinnacle-Studio_22 Installer.exe again to install the rest of the ultimate content and all other contents, that also went on C:, since the main ones were there.

I've opened PS22, unchecked the box for participating at the User Experience program, and it has loaded the "Sky is the limit" demo files.  In the PS22 control panel, I've in the Export & Preview section, I've changed the CUDA setting to None, to make sure.

All video files in the preview tab and the timeline were playing fine.

I tried after to Export the "Sky is the limit" demo.  However, result is still the same, PS22 crashes after a few seconds. Unless I did something else wrong...

Any other advice or comment would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Re: Pinnacle Studio 22 Ultimate keeps crashing when I click on "Export"

    UPDATE:

Yesterday, when trying to troubleshoot my issue, I've tried to update the drivers of both video cards I have in the PC; the NVIDIA GTX1050ti and internal Intel Graphics 630.  I''ve installed the latest NVIDIA driver available on Dell's website for the NVIDIA card; and tried also the latest drivers for the Intel 630 I could find, version 26.20.100.6912 dated 6-19-2019 on Intel's website, and also version 25.20.100.6615 dated 6-2-2019 from Dell's website.  Same results for each one, PS22 kept crashing when I clicked on the "Export" tab.

After reading this post  where the user had to revert back to a (very) older version of the Intel Graphics driver to be able to export a project in PS20 (version 22.20.16.4785  for the Intel 530), I figured I could give this a shot.  Went to Intel's site to find a similar driver for the Intel 630, and have found, downloaded and installed version 22.20.16.4758 dated 2017-08-02.  After a PC reboot, opened up PS22 and tried exporting the "Sky is the limit" demo; and it did not crash this time.  I was able to see everything in the Export tab without crashing.  Big Smile

So it looks like there is an incompatibility issue between PS20 and up, and Intel Graphics drivers ending with 6xxx, based on my experience and data from other posts regarding this issue.  If I read right, the main changes between Intel's 4xxx and 6xxx versions of their driver was that 6xxx were intended to allow the support Intel's 9th generation of their chips.  Could it be that there is something regarding the 9th gen support of their chips in this driver that PS does not like, and that causes these crashes when exporting a project ?  What puzzles me is that Corel VideoStudio 2018 was not having any issue whatsoever with the latest 6xxx Intel Graphics drivers.

Also,if I go thru updating my Windows 10 version to 1903, I guess it will install at the same time a newer version of the Intel driver, and maybe it could prevent me of reinstalling the older working version.

Anyhow, there is hope now !  Yes

Since you are having a few issues with your program I would recommend you is if you have a spare HDD or SSD available you can do a fresh installation of Windows 10 (1903) and when done just install PS and see what happens. Save your previous SSD as a backup. Before doing the fresh installation, disconnect all HDD your computer has for safety precautions and once completing the installation you can just connect them back again.

Windows 10 (1903) has the option to hold any updates up to 30 days and some other features has been added. If you continue having problems just swap the SSD and you are back to 1809.

I have two SSD's in my computer. One with W10 (1903) and the other with W7 as a backup since some old programs I have won't install on W10. I also have 3 separate HDD to store my videos, music, photos etc. I have one disconnected just for safety precautions and save the lifetime of my HDD.

This steps are just optional for you to do if you want to try it.
