Avid - Back in the prosumer market

This seems to be the new model after Da Vinci - free software. Avid are no longer losing money, it seems - Apple have dropped the ball with FCX. Now a four track free version of MC. Wonder what codecs it will work with?

    Interesting info.

    I read a lot of limitations :

Are free versions the future of softwares business model, like free games on iDevices and Androïd ?

Re: Avid - Back in the prosumer market

Apple was more interested in the "i" stuff than FCP. Their hardware was way overpriced. I am sure they could have made a bundle if they had FCP for Windows.

Avid? Well, they had Pinnacle and then sold it for really peanuts to Corel. I signed up for it. It only has 4 tracks. Not as much as I usually need, but it's free. Da Vinci Resolve, the free version is pretty good. But system overhead is steep too. And there is that learning curve....
