    Bye Bye 3D?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38778244

Seems no major manufacturer makes 3D TVs anymore.

I wonder what next gadget manufacturers are planning to release to improve sales.

The end of the BBC article refers to virtual reality. Of course whether you do not appear a plonker wearing a VR headset is a matter of opinion.

VR.... still can't quite get into it. Here in Poland... plenty of VR headsets all over the place on sale for you cellphone.  Wife put it on and liked the experience, but not enough to buy. Me? Old school. Like with my audio system which is still 2 channel stereo. Yes, I do have a surround sound home theater too, but for serious listening, my high end system.

Next big thing? Maybe HDR tv's? Wife and I were looking at 4K sets. All much too bright for me in the stores.... and I am not paying a premium for the content...

Most TVs have a "Retail" mode now, for use in the stores, that is deliberately garish/bright so that the the TV looks "better" in comparison to the others.

Jeff... walking around the tv area, I need sun glasses. All the OLED, LED, 4K, etc... so bright! Yeah, I know... pump it up so you look better... but they all started to look the same...

Seems that LG choice to develop OLED technology while all screens manufacturers were continuing to improve LCD technology was the best choice.

This year at CES 2017 all the other manufacturers were presenting an OLED model for 4K, even Sony, but all these screens were LG screens. Only LG has the factories to build OLED TVs.
