I am having exactly the same issue with Studio 16 Ulitmate. I have used Pinnacle since version 6, it is user friendly but extremely frustrating. Anyway I usually create projects about 2 hours long and sometimes find I also get BLACK video in some places (no sound from Video track either). If I have background sound in another track that is still there. I have found a work around although its not perfect because it means I have to render the project twice.I have tried deleting render files turning hardware acceleration on (I use Cuda), etc etc, I have 32GB ram so that's not a problem (yes I know 32GB is overkill)
This is how I resolved the situation.
1 Create movie as usual, add in all effects soundtracks titles etc. then use markers to indicate where the chapters will go.
2. Do not now create a disc project yet, ie do not add a menu. instead just render the project as a disc from the movie screen.
3 Now you will have the project as one file (in my case a bluray mts file. Check this file you should have no black video anymore.
4. Go back to the movie project and import the new one long file. insert a new track above all the other tracks and then lay this movie into it.
5. Delete all other tracks, you will still have the markers, and then rename this as a new movie project.
6. Now create a disc from the movie project, and then drag in your dvd menu and place chapters at the markers.
7. Now you can render this as a disc and it will be perfect.
I really don't like botching things like this and it does mean you have to render twice, but it does work for me.
I think Pinnacle should fix this bug as it only happens when you add a disc menu to a project, it is a random error and I now routinely use this work around as it saves me time in the long run but that does not mean its perfect.
