Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

When trying to install Pinnacle 14 Studio Upgrade on my new laptop I have the following experience.

Run the  Pinnacle Studio 14  installer.  A window appears to insert the key from my original install disks.  After installing the disk, I get the following dialogue box.

Please hold down the SHIFT key and insert the Studio 14 CD.

Click "OK" to continue or "Cancel" to abort the installation.

I don't have a CD as this was a digital download.  Any suggestions?

What was the Digital Download. Original "Full" Version or Upgrade?  What's the Disk in your quote? Same question.

The message you refer to would only apply if you don't have the "Full" Version Installed, before applying the Upgrade.

Re: Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

The digital download was an upgrade version.  I had to enter the key from my Version 10 disk.  I was hoping to install 14 and not 10 and then upgrade as 10 is soooo old it would not be compatible with current OS

I will try and attach a portable CD drive and stick in the original disk and see if that works.

Re: Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

Installing Studio 10 (ignoring the compatibility issue message) got me past the first error.

Now it hangs after putting in key for Studio 14 and trying to register product to new computer.

There's a similar Upgrade problem in another current very involved Thread.

To confirm; following your recent Posts:

    1) You have S10 "Full" Version Program Disk(s). What Version ?

    2) You have Upgraded to S14 via a Download ?

    3) You are attempting to Install S14 Upgrade Download on a New PC?

Re: Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

OK I got an older computer, reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows 7.

Then I installed pinnacle studio 10 - Internation version for windows XP from 09/2005 and it installed (even though it told me of known compatibility issues.

Now I am trying to install a downloaded (100% legal) version of Studio 14.  I have copied my downloaded files to my hard drive and I right click and install...

After entering keys, program freezes (Not responding).  I can cancel the install.  If I look at Task Manager I see thet the Pixie Tool for registration and licensing (PixieTool.exe) is consuming 50% of my CPU and has a constant memory use.  Defined as hosed...

    Then Studio 14 Installer aborts

Re: Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

What version of Studio 10 do you have?

If you have version 10.0 or less than 10.5 you may need to download the vista installer for studio 10. This topic was discussed somewhere in this forum (as colour mentioned earlier).

I would suggest to you to first install Studio 10 and then Studio 14 and when finished you can just uninstall Studio 10 (optional), but may require to repair Studio 14.

10 IS INSTALLED.  I have not patched it since the plan was to install 14 and then ignore 10.  14 is what get the pixietool.exe error.

Re: Installation of Studio 14 Upgrade from Digital Download

Thanks for the link.  It led me to a fix pixie executable

I had  already run in install model as administrator and then I also changed compatibility mode in file properties.  Still no luck...

I had S10 & then S12. Although S12 wasn't an Upgrade. If it was, I would have needed to have either S10 Installed or Inserted S10 Install Disk, using the Shift Key Method.

I think it was either with S14 or S15, when all you needed to do, was enter the Upgrade Serial Number First & then S10 Serial Number.

When you Run S14 Setup Exe File, that triggers PixieTool EXE to Run.

After entering keys, program freezes (Not responding).  I can cancel the install.  If I look at Task Manager I see thet the Pixie Tool for registration and licensing (PixieTool.exe) is consuming 50% of my CPU and has a constant memory use.  Defined as hosed...

Looks like there's Memory Leak & PixieTool.exe isn't clearing from System RAM.

End the Task in Task Manager Applications Tab &  try again.

I don't know if S14 will Install in Windows OS Safe Mode. You could try. that.
