S16 and 17 coexistance? And Avid Studio?

S16 and 17 coexistance? And Avid Studio?

I experience an issue with both S16 and 17 installed (more than one, actually, but the other one is a install problem)

If you have either program running and try to open the other one, you just get nothing - no error message, nothing. If you try to do the same between S12/14/15 and PS16/17, you get an error message warning you that you aren't allowed to do what you are attempting. Not a big deal, but if you have minimised 17 and forgotten and then try to open 16, 17 maximises. Confusing.

Can anyone confirm my issue. More importantly, ISTR that this didn't happen with S16 and Avid Studio. Can someone with AS still installed test it? If AS/16 behave as I would expect - and error message rather than nothing - then S17 is a regression and we have a bigger case to get the "bug" fixed.

    TIA

    Ok...

PS16 open, try to load S15, get the error message.

PS16 open, try to load AS1, no error message.

PS17 open, try to load AS1, no error message.

Thanks Tony. Open AS1, try to load PS16, no error message I assume.

Seeing as this has been happening since the introduction of S16 and I haven't spotted it before, I'll shut up.

Correct. AS1 open. Tried to load PS16 and no error message.

Now I have S17 installed can I uninstall S16 and delete all the files (excluding projects) or are there shared files I neeed to leave? As mine was an upgrade I would have expected some guidance on this issue at time of install

Right now, the stability of PS17 is not up to the same (at least on my computer) of PS16.

I have Avid Studio, PS16 and PS17 on my computer. With the last 2 updates to PS17, it has become much more stable and useable for me. But I feel safe with PS16U sitting there.

Not quite the question I asked. If I were to uninstall PS16 and delete the associated files would PS17 still work or are there shared files

If you have patched S17 to version 17.0.2 there should not be any shared locations. However, it's not a process I remember trying. If you delete S16 and 17 doesn't work, then a re-install of 17 should solve any issues.

I might be able to answer your question more accurately later today as I'm preparing some HDD OS images on my Windows 8.1 computer. However I'm not sure what you mean by "delete the associated files". What are exactly are you intending to delete?
