Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

An update. Firstly, I have kept an original zip file copy and I think the unzipped folder should remain even after any more system restores.

I deleted IDVDR and MM from the set up list of S10 doewnload.

I then tried starting Vista Install Welcome but got a message saying I needed 'Administrators Rights' even though I'm the Administrator (see screen shot below).

This was an Application file (76KB), and just above it was a similar sized Application file called Set Up so I clicked on that instead and the install started.

When it got to the list of items to be installed there was no sign of IDVDR or MM and the install proceeded smoothly until I got an alert about drivers to be installed. I took a screen shot but as I was trying to save a copy of it another red warning came up. I took another screen shot of that too but as I was trying to move it out of the way to save the 1st SS I must have checked the close sign becasue it disapeared and after saving that on too on Paint I found the install had completed.

I was then asked if I wanted to install the Bonus Disk but for now I said No. N.B. when I want to do that later can I do it from S12, or do I need to use my actual Bonus Disk, or do it from this download?

After it had finished and I restarted my computer the desktop Icon was blank. When I clicked on it there was some disk activity but no result.

I then went to the programme list and could open it from there (screen shot in another post). S10 seemed to work fine - and there was no sound distortion in the timeline!!!

But when I chcked, my DVD drive wasn't working again and I have the same spurious additional driver there.

I think we're getting there but the next step (apart from another System Restore/RegDelete etc etc) is to see if we can also delete the DVD driver from the download set up - OR - does anyone know how to remove that particular driver from my DVD driver list?

I'll post the other screen shots in seperate posts (I can't work out how to insert multiple shots in the same post) and I won't do anything (even system restore) until I here further from you.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

Not sure we need a blow by blow account but to deal with some of your points.

Windows 7 is more security minded than XP was and likes anything it installs to be digitally signed. This is for your protection against spurious software. Older programs are not digitally signed so hence the warning and the need for administrator rights to install. To do this, right click on the install file and click on 'Run as administrator'.

Considering the driver popups, you should have clicked on 'Don't install this driver software'. I am not sure if this related to the CDrom driver but considering you are not proposing to run S10 it would be the wiser thing to do.

In the drivers for the CDrom, the top one is the default Microsoft driver. Thesecond looks like an Apple driver and Quicktime is on the S10 disc. If it looks like an old driver (and Quicktime was not otherwise installed) then that also wants deleting. Deleting drivers is not something I have ever had to do so not sure if they can be deleted individually (and I am not about to try). The best option might be to try rolling back the driver if 'Roll back driver' is active, otherwise 'Uninstall' and see if only the Pinnacle driver can be uninstalled. Failing that, uninstall the lot and let Windows reset to default (hopefully) on reboot.

Looking at the last screenshot it seems Quicktime was installed but it would have been an old version.

Wrong order that was the DVD driver list, this is the latest S10 programme list:-

    1) Looks like S10.6 has Installed OK. , without InstantDVD Recorder Program & Mediamanager. But you need to double-check ADD./REMOVE Programs list.

    2) You can Install the Bonus Content at any time, since it has it's own Installer. You would eventually need that, if you want to Transfer previously purchased Premium Content to S12, Via S12's Content Transfer Wizard, which is on S12's Installer Setup Page..

    3) Uninstall DVD-RW Drive Driver & then Update Driver or Install, if that replaces Uninstall, after you've Uninstalled it. (I think your PC Guru tried that before & it didn't work. Try again). See my Screenshot:

    4) DON'T Select another System Restore Point. If 3) above  doesn't get rid of Instant DVD Recorder Driver, we need to find the S10 process that Installs it the first place. As previously Posted, I no longer have S10, so can only view your & David's Screenshots.

IMO, they're common to all Studio Legacy Program Versions, David.

I can't see how that InstantDVD Recorder Driver 's got Installed, if InstantDVD Setup EXE File has been Deleted.

    I'm going to, Google it.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

1, I can confrim no sign of IDVDR or MM in add/remove programmes

    2. Bonus content understood - presume I use my original S10 CD Bonus disk for that

    3. Can't get rid of unwanted DVD driver. Like before, I tried Update Driver and it said correct one already installed. Then tried uninstalling all drivers and restarting computer but all 3 then reappeared again.

So it seems we have 3 options -

    a) find out how to remove unwanted DVD drivers or

    b) do another system restore/regdelete, re-install S10 and this time reject the driver when it tries to install it or

    c) find what part of the S10 install process controls the driver and delete it before doing the reinstall, although I've just checked the S10 Setup folder and can't see anything obvious.

P.S. just received your latest posts and it seems you've confirmed what I could see in (c) above.

Here are my DVD-RW Drive Drivers (See Screenshot).

    Mikes Drivers:

ASAPI64.sys was Developed by Pinnacle Systems.

iaStoirF.sys is an Intel Matrix Storage Driver.

ADDED --Further to Mike's last Post, IMO, we're in a "Catch 22" situation. The situation is going to repeat itself with S10 Installed, whichever way we go about it.

I'm out of my Territory now on this one.

IMO, the only way now, is for Mike to Select a System Restore Point when S10 isn't Installed & keep Trying the Shift Key Method.

    Mike

Have Start / Computer Window Open before you Insert S12 Program DVD & Keep it Open to see the DVD-RW Drive Studio Program Icons. You'll probably need to switch back to the Desktop via the "Show Desktop" Side Bar at the R/H end of the Taskbar, to View studio's Prompts.

IMO, your Shift Key problem is probably due to the way you're doing it. You need to be quick in pressing it, while inserting S10 CD 1 at the same time.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

I really do feel very embarassed about how much time you're both giving on my problems, including the original Audio problem and now this one.

I'll do a restore etc again tomorrow and try again with the S12/S10 disks but I have to say that I've done this so many times now and tried every combination I can think of relating to the shift key and when/how long I press it for that I can't belive it's something I'm doing/not doing.

What really surprises me is that my S10 activation keys are now stored permanently on this computer anyway. Whenever I've tried to install from the downloaded programme they automatically appear so why doesn't S12 recognise them anyway. Is there any way I can get the computer to point to them when they're asked for instead of inserting my S10 disk?

    1) Jeff (jjn)  suggested you Disable Autorun on the DVD-RW Drive. That should prevent S10 from Running when you Insert S10 Disk when prompted by S12.

    2) I've suggested you Copy S12 Program DVD to a New Folder on your Desktop & Run S12 Setup EXE File from there..

    Try that.

I n theory,  S12 should still show the prompts & continue Installing after reading S10 Activation Key & ejecting S10 Disk. Just close the empty Tray.

    1) Studio RegDelete doesn't always Delete all of the Registry Keys when Uninstalling., As already Posted, Free Registry Cleaner Program; Ccleaner does a thorough job.  I haven't got it. I use a purchased Program; jvcPowerTools.

    2) Since Installed S10 locks the DVD-RW Drive, you can only Insert S12 Disk when S10 isn't Installed on different System Restore Point without S10 & therefore Registry Keys.

My "PCs For Dummies" Book (Now out of date) is 1,000 pages. There's no brief explanation.to your problems, but you are not alone re; Program Installation problems..

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

Why don't you just install Studio 10 Vista Installer with the Instant DVD Recorder and then install Studio 12. After you finished installing studio, just uninstall Instant DVD Recorder. (just a suggestion).

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

S10 has never run automatically when I've inserted the disk. Autorun has never been enabled, it's always been set to 'Ask me every time' so I just get the usual option of choosing Welcome.exe or Open Folder. It just doesn't go to the activation key page like I need. I've tried disabling Autorun completely but it doesn't make any difference.

I haven't tried copying the S12 Program DVD to a new folder on my desktop and running it from there, so I'll try that.

Actually, I might firstly just use the S12 disk and when asked for the S10 disk just open and close the tray to see if it then recognises the activation key.

Ramon, I've even managed to delete Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager from the S10 download set up before installing it but it still installs a driver for my DVD drive which then locks it and we can't find any way of getting rid of it apart from using system restore to remove S10 again. S10 is currently installed but there is no sign of IDVDR to delete and we can't find any way of just disabling that driver. If you have any more suggestions they'd be gratefully received.

S10 has never run automatically when I've inserted the disk. Autorun has never been enabled, it's always been set to 'Ask me every time' so I just get the usual option of choosing Welcome.exe or Open Folder.

That's possibly the reason why the Shift Key Method hasn't/Doesn't work(ed). The object of the Shift Key, is to prevent S10 Disk from Autorunning..

Maybe Enabling Autorun & then trying the Shift Key will now work, since S12 Disk Upgrade Prompts are based on the Shift Key Method. IMO, S12's  instructions to do that are in S12's Pixie Folder which is the first Folder Copied to S12 Temp Installation Folder. Explanation already Posted.

I think there's a separate Pixie Folder sub-Folder for Upgrades. I'll check & include a Screenshot , for explanation purposes.,

Nope - can't find it. However Pixie Folder contains PixieTool EXE  Registration & Licensing File that probably Runs when you insert S12 / S10 Disks &' Downloads, displaying the Activation Key entry page.

You might still have PixieTool EXE File on your PC &, the reason why you're seeing S10 Activation Key.

I've tried Running S12 PixieTool EXE File to see what happens, but can't.

The only people who could explain all of the above would be the Freelance Programmers, who are long-gone.. , .

I already gave him a video sight on how to recover the dvd drive again when not detected by your computer. I had the same problem once and did that steps mentioned and I got back my DVD drive and had no defects with any of my programs in my computer including Pinnacle Studio.

    Thanks RamonSmile

I haven't watched the video. I expect it's an MS Fix for when Windows doesn't see Removable Media Drives.

    This isn't the same problem.

Windows sees the DVD-RW Drive, which is locked, for reasons already given in several Posts now.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

IT'S WORKED -  I'VE GOT S12 AND THERE'S NO AUDIO DISTORTION SO WE'VE SOLVED THAT PROBLEM TOO.

Ramon, you're a star. I did receive your previous link but it didn't work and when I didn't hear any further after I posted a reply saying so I thought it might no longer be available. But the new link does work.

And just to clarify, Windows wasn't seeing the DVD drive when I clicked on Computer, it disapeared from there although it did still show in Device Manager.

I was about to shut everything down and do a system restore etc when I thought I might as well check out the video first. With some trepidation I followed the instructions, found 'Lower Filters' (no Upper ones), deleted them, and after a restart my PC recognised the DVD drive again. In fact, both of the spurious drivers have gone including the Pinnacle ones. Only the correct driver is now showing.

According to the video, this is a common problem with W7.

So far I've only checked the sample video that came with S12 but if that works I can't see why there should be any more problems.

I will now install the S10 Bonus elements from my original disk, then my Hollywood FX Plus 4.5, and finally my S12 Ultimate extras, and use 'Transfer Content' in the S12 Install Folder to bring everything togerther within S12 unless someone teels me I should follow a different path. (I'll re-check Ramon's other video first)

I definitely won't install Instant DVD Recorder!!!

I don't recollect Mike previously Posting that Windows wasn't displaying the DVD-RW Drive in Computer Window. This is the first time I've read about it.

    Mike

S10 Bonus Content won't Install without S10 Installed.

S12 Content Transfer Wizard Installs a Virtual S10 & then Installs S10 Content, when Prompted to Insert S10 Content Disk Disk. The Content Files are then placed in separate Content Folder.

There was an FAQ telling you exactly how to use the Content Transfer Wizard. I'll see if I can find it. You need to do it in the correct order..

ADDED - FAQ Section 2. The Content Transfer Wizard doesn't Install Instant DVD Recorder or Mediamanager. Those are Programs. Not Content. They aren't on S10 Content Disk.

When the Content's Installed, you need to Enable "Show Premium Content" & "Show Premium Features" in S12 Setup . See Screenshot (To be added).

    ADDED - Screenshot:

"S10 Bonus Content won't Install without S10 Installed."

The bonus content can be installed without Studio 10 installed. Just follow the steps on the video I made (9:10 timer) and it should install without a problem.
