My S10.6 disc contains the Vista Installer folder (same as your first screenshot)

    The size is 1.9 GB.

This is inside the disc Vista Installer folder and has a Welcome.exe file for installing.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

My Vista Installer download is a single executable file of 1.31 GB.  Under it is the S10.8 update.

I have never used the installer since I have the disc but thought it a useful thing to have.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

I simply don't have that. I'm going to delete the downloads and do it again to see if I've lost somehting. The fact that Vista Installer was only 1GB made me doubly suspicious.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

I've downloaded the S10 TE file again and it's definitely bigger now. Although it doesn't lool like yours David this time I've managed to get to the Vista Install and the Custom Install page and still can't see any opportunity to delete Instant DVD Recorder or Media Manager.

I've taken 2 screen shots and this is the first:-

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

And this is the second (the others don't seem to show anyhting relevant).

I'll wait until Colour has had a chance to review these before going any further. At least I haven't received any rejection notices about not being compatible yet.

But what I still find weird is that despite twice restoring my PC to a point before any Studio installations it somehow still remembered my activation code which appeared automatically filled in!

    Attachment: restore.jpg

System restore does exactly what it says. It restores the SYSTEM settings to an earlier time which includes the registry settings. If a program has been installed after that time then, after a restore, there are no registry settings for that program and it effectively ceases to exist. At least some and maybe all of the program files are still there but the program will need to be reinstalled to become active again. What the restore does not do is affect any User files created by the program or your data. Hence the Pixie folder and activation code still remain.  You could start afresh by deleting the Pixie folder but why would you want to do that? Isn't the object of this exercise to get the S10 serial number into the Pixie folder so that S12 will recognise it?

I'm a bit lost on what it is you are doing but if trying to install S10 and are no longer being asked for the S10 serial number, then I would be tempted to try installing S12 again. You might not be asked to install the S10 disc. But then I don't do upgrades.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

Thanks for explaining how my activation code is still there but unfortunately, the S12 upgrade disk still doesn't recognise it. I had tried that before and have just done so again without success. As a last resort I believe Colour is trying to find a way of installing S10 first whilst avoiding Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager but from the choices avavilable in the Custom Install list I can't see any that can be ignored which relate to those 2 items.

This was my first upgrade version and I won't be buying another of that kind again although I probably won't be buying another Pinnacle product anyway.

    OK - My Video's finished & Uploaded.

    @ Mike

    1) There aren't any entries related to Studio, InstantDVD  Recorder or Mediamanager, in your ADD/REMOVE Programs Screenshot (Which includes 32 & 64 Bit Programs) .

    2) If that Screenshot is from your Current System Restore Point. Stay with that & don't use another one.

    @ Mike & David.

    As previously Posted, I had S10.0 & Updated from that to S10.1, S10.5 & S10.7

It's too long-ago to remember exactly, due to the different S10 Versions Program delivery methods, how Instant DVD Recorder & Media Manager were Installed.

I no longer have my original S10.0 Disks or Updates Downloads on my PC, to check..

Mike has 2 S10.5 Program CDs. David has 1 10.6 Program DVD.

I have1 S12 Program DVD that shows the following Screenshots for InstantDVD Recrder.

@ Mike - Your S10 Program CD 1 Content Screenshot doesn't show Instant DVD Recorder. Look at it again & then Program CD 2 Content.

@ David, can you look for InstantDVD Recorder on your S10.6 Program DVD.

ADDED - Mike; Post another Screenshot of your DVD-RW Drive's Drivers. I need to see if Microsoft or Pinnacle are the Driver Provider at your current System Restore Pont.

BTW - Your DVD-RW Drive is showing as a SCSI (SmallComputerSystemsInterface) Drive. SCSI Drives are usually HDDs that are combined as 1 HDD via an ADAPTEC Hardware Bridge between the 2.

My HDDS show as SCSI Drives (I expect your's do too),  but not my DVD-RW Drive. They aren't connected. If your MOBO enables SCSI, Windows will detect that & apply SCSI to your HDDs (And - In some cases a DVD-RW Drive). This isn't the real situation. Just like Windows will show a single 4 Core CPU as 4 separate CPUs.  ,

BTW - IMO, this Thread has now become almost impossible to follow. IMO, the only way to get this solved is to deal with it one bit at a time.

@ David, can you look for InstantDVD Recorder on your S10.6 Program DVD

The name of the disc is Studio so the path is Studio/ Setup/ IDVDR/ dvdrecorder_setup.exe

For the Vista Installer the path is the same except for the additional folder

    Hence Studio/ Studio Vista Installer/ Setup/ IDVDR/ dvdrecorder_setup.exe

I won't bother with the screenshot.

Ok - Thanks for that David.

Here are my current thoughts. IMO, we need to be in agreement with them, before Mike follows them.

    1)  Mike remains on his current System Restore Point (As previously advised).

    2) Mike Downloads/Installs Pinnacle RegDelete (If it's still available) & Runs it 3 times, for S10. Or Downloads/Installs Ccleaner & Runs that (As previously advised)

    3) Does a HDD Search for Pinnacle studio Program only Folders (He needs to keep his Pinnacle Studio "My Projects" Folder, in case he's Transferred any Saved Projects from his XP PC). & Deletes those. There doesn't appear to be a Full S10 Reinstall FAQ anymore., which is a bu**er.

    4) Views S10.6 Vista Installer Folders & Deletes InstantDVD Recorder EXE File & Then Installs mS10 Vista.

At the moment it looks like someone in the UK is going to have do a Remote Desktop job, taking control of Mike's PCIndifferent .

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

I agree that everything is getting confusing so following the last 3 posts can I clarify the following (sorry for the length):-

    1.      The normal installation of S12 upgrade using just the S10 activation code doesn't work for some reason.

    2.      Therefore, the plan is that I must install S10 first, followed by S12, but we want to avoid installing Instant DVD Recorder (IDVDR) and Media Manager (MM) in S10.

    3.      That my S10 disks are for XP only and must be avoided (I've put them away).

    4.      I must therefore use the S10 Download from the website provided and also use the Vista Install which is suitable for W7.

    5.      For that reason my earlier screenshot was of the Custom Install dialogue box for S10 was from the download programme (not from my disks) and I couldn't clearly see any indication of IDVDR or MM there. This was shown on my post 622465. Can you please advise if any items shown there do relate to IDVDR or MM so that I could deselect them?

    6.      I know I can avoid those 2 items on the subsequent S12 upgrade because I can clearly see them in the install programme choices but I understood we're trying to prevent their install on the S10 download programme (as well as later on the S12 upgrade).

    7.      I've re-checked the file contents of the Vista download (as opposed to my S10 disks) and I can't see any sign of IDVDR or MM there. I've added 3 screen shots showing all those files.

    8.      As requested I've also done a screenshot of my DVD drivers and that's on another post.

And just to recap on the latest post:-

    A.     I'm still on my latest System Restore Point

    B.     I had run RegDelete 3 times as last suggested

    C.     I just ran a search for ‘Pinnacle Studio Program only Folders' but nothing came up. The only folders I've kept are those on my external drive which contain my video downloads etc. I haven't transferred anything to do with Pinnacle/Studio from my old PC

    D.     My 3 screen shots from the S10 download Vista Installer (mentioned above) don't seem to show any mention of IDVDR or MM so I can't see how to deselect them from there or the Custom Install

N.B. Re the Custom Install options on the download folder, clicking on the S10 programme doesn't show any options so I didn't include a screen shot of that.

Sorry to be so long winded and pedantic but as you say, I think it's important I fully understand exactly where we're at. I won't do any more until you advise further.

Mike, look again at the path I quoted  ......... Setup/ Studio Vista Installer/ IDVDR/ dvdrecorder_setup.exe

If you really need a picture for that ....      What is shown is for a normal install but it is the same inside the Vista install folder.

If I right click on 'dvdrecoder_setup' (as per my previous screenshot) it looks like I could delete it. Is that correct?

And if so, how can I do the same for Media Manager?

I'm going to stick my neck-out & say yes, Mike.

    But wait for David's confirmation.

You can Remove Media Manager from ADD/REMOVE Programs at a later date. It's a System resource-hog & you don't need it.

BTW - It looks like from your Previous Post & Screenshot that your PC is now clean from S10 & your DVD-RW Drive is no longer controlled by Instant DVD Recorder. Yes

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

I have looked at the disc (again) and see  Studio Vista Installer/ Setup/ PMM/ MediaServer_Setup.exe.  That may or may not be Media Manager but probably is.

I have no way of knowing what will happen if IDVDR and Media Manager are deleted.  The install program may continue to install but equally may throw an error.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12

Many thanks to both of you. It's late now but tomorrow morning I'm going to try deleting both IDVDR and MM and then install S10 Vista. If I run into trouble I'm quite capable now of using system restore and RegDelete to get rid of any problems and I can always download another full copy of the programme from the website.

If I have to do that, for my second attempt I'll just delete IDVDR followed by Medai Manager after S10's installed and see how that goes.

    I'll keep you posted.

Instead of downloading again, why not make a few copies of the one you have.
