We'll be wanting support for the new Intel Penryn processors, with the SSE4 instruction set which will facilitate high-def video processing, I think...

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

faster or even real time rendering on everything

Blu Ray and HD DVD authoring

Title deko to have letters that can fly in, some animations would be good, others have been doing that for years now makes me look basic sometimes

DVD exports to be better quality

wmv to do better quality  and low bit rate eg 2 pass

Thats it for now, lets face it, AL 7.2 is quite stunning and how lucky are we to have it!

oops one more thing, a transition effect that pulls the focus out and goes to next clip and re focuses again to next clip  without having to build it with filters etc

Choice of GUI language from the project settings, and not during installation.I don't think any video editing app. does that.

Keep asking for non realistic things and we will get nothing.

    It's an old story.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

As one who has moved from Studio to Liquid I think there are some things that are better in Studio than Liquid - faster, more efficient, and more intuitive. And there are some things that Studio isn't so good at - the transition issue Mike mentioned is a good example.

I would like to see Studio's method of editing multiple tracks in which sync is automatically maintained. I'd like to see this used in conjunction with the Liquid's "activate track" capability. In Studio, if I want to trim a few frames from the end of a clip with an overlay, both the clip and overlay are trimmed. If I trim from a clip earlier in the time line, both tracks are automatically adjusted and sync is maintained. To do this in Liquid I have to set the mark in/out, activate the tracks that will be affected, then click on the "delete between marks" button. And if I make a mistake I have to undo that and then do it all over again. An active track should be exactly what it says it is - active. Thus when I make edits on one active track, such should apply to all active tracks.

I'd also like to see the time bar moved to the top of the time line. This is probably just me, but I often end up clicking below the blasted thing and my project shifts.

Commotion tools - add roto tools please.

Add primatte keyer, or something similar.

Add "true" drag and drop - i.e. dragging a clip from the rack to the time line should be the same as "sending" it to the time line via the source viewer without the extra steps.

Studio's way works with just two 'active' timelines. It could quickly get into a mess with Liquid';s multiple tracks.  And - Suppose you don't want all track to be trimmed ?   You can make use of the Overlay'Film modes for editing (Yellow/Red) for achieving results quickly.  To trim clips on several tracks, highlight those tracks (only), then use the razor.  You can also use the 'link' icon to keep highl;ghted tracks in sync.  I understand what you're saying though - I felt exactly the same when I started out with Liquid after Studio, but quickly adapted my working methods to suit the (in my opinion far superior) way that Liquid does things.

I'd also like to see the time bar moved to the top of the time line. This is probably just me, but I often end up clicking below the blasted thing and my project shifts.

Oh boy - I wish I had a penny for every time I've requested this!!  Yes, yes yes.  I'm glad I'm not the only one with clunky fingers ...

Huh?  It does that now.  In fact, (probably from a Studio habit), dragging clips from the rack is the only way I work ... I have never used the 'send to timeline' options, always drag and dropped. To 'insert' and shift things - yellow mode. To replace or fill a gap - Red mode.  If I want to insert on one track and keep other tracks in sync, then I simply 'select all after scrubber' (an icon that can be customised to a toolbar), shift everything dwonstreamfrom where the clip is to be inserted (takes 1, maybe 2 seconds).add the clip, then again select all downstream and bring it back.  Result -clip added, and everything else around it is kept in perfect sync..  You can trim a clip in the rack by using Mark-in/Mark-out pointers (source viewer) before dragging to the timeline - so with long clips, you can even filter out parts you don't want before it gets to the timeline.

    Mike,

dragging and sending clips to the TL work different.

That is very often been an issue for not-experienced users when they see that, even witll tracks active, the insertion of clip does not move the other tracks for the same distance. Ending with a total mess up of the TL.

    Hi Mike

Studio is limited in the number of tracks it supports - no question there, and as someone else recently told me, I have not yet reached the "ah ha" point with Liquid. After reading what you wrote and considering what someone else mentioned to me, I'm having a "doh!" moment mixed with an "ah ha" moment. I get the trim thing now - it makes sense.

Huh?  It does that now.  In fact, (probably from a Studio habit), dragging clips from the rack is the only way I work ... I have never used the 'send to timeline' options, always drag and dropped. To 'insert' and shift things - yellow mode. So you open up a "hole" and insert, then close. That button (Select all after playline, yes?) certainly makes that easier - thank you. Now that particular process makes sense.

But here's where "true" drag and drop would, I think, be helpful - currently if I drag, say, a photo from the rack to the time line in film mode, only the "V" track shifts. However, if I right click on the photo in the rack and "send to time line", the photo is inserted at current playline position on the "V" track, and all active tracks are shifted. I would have thought the behavior would be decided by what mode I was in - insert/overwrite, not by how the clip was put on the time line. Is there a particular reason why dragging a clip to the time line is treated differently than sending it?

Much appreciate your input - thanks.

WHAT!!  Good grief ... I've been using Liquid for 3 or 4 - maybe even 5 years,   and I didn't know that.  Well, that explains what you were asking for.  I must now go check out that 'send to timeline' feature.....  hmmm .... so that's why it is there .... could be useful after all ....

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

This may not be new, however it's becoming a real irritant.  I would like VERY MUCH for the selection of the Render destination to be part of the same selection process as the other Media management location choices AND (this is the MAJOR PART) to be project specific, i.e. once the options / paths are set for a project, the settings remain with the project until they are changed, for that project.

I usually have two or three projects in progress at a time, and I so often forget to change all of the paths when I switch between them, so end up with stuff all over the place.

Would anyone else like this too?

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

I have been asking for this for years and have discussed it with the developers. It is on the feature request list. I am going to push for this in the next version. It is a must IMO.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

I would find it more of a pain to keep changing render drives. Why do you need to switch? I use a 500gig drive to render and 500gig drive for media. Hard drives are getting pretty cheap.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

It's a good point regarding the render location; I have changed to that approach.  The Media Management "sticking" to the project is the big irritant though.

Working with LE 7.2 and experimenting with Avid Xpress Pro I do love the Automatic color correction and the Image Stabilization feature in it.

Google to "Avid Xpress Family Tour " and see the demo's and you also put this items on your wishlist.

We do have Auto color Correction filter that works good but not for synthetic movement as pans or tilts.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

Wow--What a list.  I read through as much as I could, so I hope I don't repeat.  In addition to all the fine suggestions, how about adding the ability to use a titling program other than TitleDeko (Pro).  For some that might be BluffTitler, Boris, After Effects, ProDad or whatever.  The nice thing about the intergration of TD is that the video can appear in the background, the files are saved within liquid, and it is launched from within and returns to the timeline.

The same thing is true for Boris and ProDAD products. They are plugins although neither work as cleanly as TDK or TDK Pro.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

A feature that would be useful would be the ability to add commands to right click menus,  the specific thing that triggered this thought is that I often want to fuse a clip having applied the Mercalli effect - to be able to access export to file from the timeline right click menu would be good.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE

A must have for me, would be the ability of NxtGen to live on the same pc, not open together of course, but the install / deinstall of one
    not to break the other.
We do not know the future status of BOB, so it would be of benefit to continue use of the dude for some time until the new product
    shakes out.
