I can't enable the hardware acceleration option on either video card. I set the option but when I return to the menu the option is disabled.
Look at THIS, and THIS about why you might be seeing green. Problem is, you can't enable HWA. Embarrassed

Start reading a thread from HERE. If you are up to the task, a re-install from the HDD might solve your problem.

And if you wish to continue this discussion, you could continue over HERE to help keep this thread tidy. Wink I enabled the email subscription to that thread so I'll know if a new post comes along. Yes

Finally, after chatting with Pinnacle support, I was told to run the RegDelete utility and reinstalled the software. This seems to have solved all my problems and my initial testing created the menus without the green screen, Check3d works and I can enable "Hardware Acceleration".

It seems that the registry settings from the first install when I had onboard video weren't being rewritten when I reinstalled with a new video card. RegDelete clears the registry of old settings so the registry is correctly updated with the new video card settings. The onboard video didn't have the hardware acceleration feature.

Looks like nobody is running Studio 12. Am I missing something here? I've been using 12 for over a year now.

    w/ 11.1.2 ultimate...doing SD only

    diamond gfx w/ ati 4650 w/ 512 ddr3 agp did not work

(dx10 or with rolled back dx9); passed 3dcheck and dxdiag tests, however. did not work: 50 pct of 2d and hfx and NO alpha wtrans worked in edit/realtime? green screens at make movie time.

    (pentium 4 , 3.0 ghz, , 3.5 gb ram)

ati oem card 1300/1550 w/ 256mb (I think pci-e)  worked much better than the above card with the same project  . not a 100 pct perfect , but about 98 pct . I went from greeen screens on some trans to a stutter in the trans. I had to correct this by doing out to tape in make movie time. smooth then. the above card cd not work even with the tape output wrk around.

(celeron 3.0 ghz, 2 gb ram in another pc)

after consulting this list, exchanged my 4650 from fryes -even after 45 days; go fryes! - with a nvidia 7600 gs; I HOPE it is similar enuf to the 7600 GT which was listed here as successful. it is hard to find agp cards nowadays; am in the process completely wiping out all traces of ati and of s11 and reninstalling s11 now; as they say in this forum alot, cross your fingers!

ATI Radeon 4670 graphics card with 512 mb memory, Vista 64 bit,  Intel Quad 6600, 4gb memory

I  bought this video card to replace my Intel onboard video hoping to solve several problems I have with Studio 12. The main problem is rendering the menus at the beginning of the movie. The menus start to render OK but turn into a green screen before the menu is completed. After many tries I can usually get the menus to render correctly and sucessfully make the video.

Originally the new video card didn't improve the process. The "check 3d" test failed on the old onboard video and the new 4670.

I  couldn't enable the hardware acceleration option on either video card. I set the option but when I return to the menu the option is disabled.

Finally, after chatting with Pinnacle support, I was told to run the RegDelete utility and reinstalled the software. This seems to have solved all my problems and my initial testing created the menus without the green screen, Check3d works and I can enable "Hardware Acceleration".

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

I have purchased Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate 14 and will be installing it on a new PC once I narrow down the specs. I am not going to build my own.  It appears that I can get a new Dell or HP system with Intel i7 quad-core or AMD Phenom II six-core processors, 6 to 8 GB of RAM, and 1TB graphics cards for $800-$900, which I am guessing is more power than I could need.  The difficult part to judge, as always, is which graphics card is best, because the prices are all over the place.  I am NOT a gamer, but I will run dual monitors and do heavy photo and video editing using Pinnacle Studio.

Sadly, the info here is mostly over a year old.

I have used every version of Pinnacle Studio from version 1.3 (!) through Version 11.  I was a regular participant in the old Studio forums, which were lively and incredibly helpful.   What happened to turn this into a graveyard?

I've just put a Nvidia 250GTS 512MB card in, and it has halved some effects render times over the 7600GS that it replaced. Once I installed the latest driver, it runs really well.

ATI 512MB Radeon X1650 AGP video adapter for Windows XP 32-bit.  Works great with Studio 12.

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

    I use an NVidia GT 240  w/1gb

There were several reasons that guided my choice

    1. it was CHEAP -- I paid about $45 from Newegg (on sale)

    2. low power -- it does not need external auxiliary power

    3. its one of the more recommended cards for constructing a Hackitosh PC (an Apple clone -- which I haven't gotten to yet)

    4. Its powerful enough to handle processing for PS / AS1.1

    5. It has  DVI, HDMI, & VGA outputs -- all of which I sometimes use

Not the fastest card -- but its stable, inexpensive, and decent -- it has a Windows Performance Index of 5.7

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

I have a Nvidia 460 GTX because I am limited by my power supply requirements of my HPE 490t desktop, i7x980 3.3 GHZ 6 core system. I use two solid state drives. The system is fast, well fast for everything but PS14. I would love to try the 600 series nvidia cards but no mas room in the tower from HP. It works ok. I guess it's because I am editing AVCHD footage from my Sony camcorders. Any suggestions?

I don't think a GPU upgrade will make any noticable difference to editing AVCHD. I suggest you try the S15 trial - I see a noticable improvement in timeline scrubbing and preview between S14 and 15. Rendering of single streams of AVCHD may be better for you as well.

I will have to give it a try. I hate buying the full version each time, when I have been a faithful Studio User since 9, but I always have problems with the upgrades.
