Video is a strange business, if you ask me.

I predict that in the end Bill will get the Liquid upgrade and be very happy with it.

I love a story with a happy ending.

And if Bill buys the upgrade he might be eligible for Liquid to MC upgrade as well.

I am not sure Studio users are allowed to work with MC. Big Smile

Well, it has certainly taken some twists and turns but it has proved useful to me. I'm not going to complain.

I'm not going to bet against that. My wife and son (and our dogs) all leave for 3 months in another 3 weeks so I probably won't have much time to explore Liquid before then, but it is high on my list of things to keep me busy while I'm alone and without distraction this summer.

I am considering upgrading to Liguid V7 instead of Studio V12. What are the advantages and disadvantages? For instance, can I open project that were created in Studio V11 in Liquid? Are there features in the Studio Ultimate that would be lost in Liquid 7?

    Thanks,
    Marc

You cannot open projects created in Studio in Liquid.

There are major differences between the programs. For the most part, Liquid is more feature rich and is a professional level editing applications. Unlimited audio and video tracks. No dedicated title tracks, 2D and 3D editors, much more robust audio features, full screen previews at full resolution, etc, etc, etc.

Make sure before you consider upgrading that your system is Liquid capable and not the minimum specs. The information you need is here. You can also download a trial version of Liquid here.. This is an earlier version and Liquid has improved considerably since this was released but it will give you an idea of the interface and features although it is not fully functional.

There is a learning curve when moving from Studio to Liquid. The timeline and other features of the interface are significantly different.

Re: Is this a good time to upgrade from Studio to Liquid? Or is this a bad time?

Depending on what type of editor you are you may be happier with Studio!! Liquid compared to Studio is like comparing Paint to Photoshop. You can edit in both but you have way more options with Photoshop. However that ability comes with a steep learning curve. Photoshop is a very powerful program and complicated to learn where Paint is easy and very straight forward. Once you have learned Photoshop you will never want to use Paint again, it is the same with Studio and Liquid. But if you are looking for an easy to use easy to learn program then Liquid is NOT for you! I say jump to Liquid even if it is EOL you will be able to use it for years and will be well worth the investment. Do your homework 1st and make sure your computer will run Liquid. There is a pinned thread that has some useful information as to what works with Liquid make sure to read it and if you will post your computer specs we can help further.......Edd

Re: Is this a good time to upgrade from Studio to Liquid? Or is this a bad time?

I say there is not better time than the present. When I moved from Studio to Liquid, like many I was at first intimidated by the interface, but I quickly realized that Liquid has a lot more simularities than meets the eye. The media management is also a huge benefit especially for large projects. Probably the most important thing is to forget about all those Studio work arounds you are used to. With more video/audio/title tracks you can complete tasks that you did in studio in one sequence. You should familiarize yourself with the 2d and 3d RT CPU effect, these are probably single handedly the most powerful features in Liquid. While there are some cool transitions, effects and filters those two give you quite a bit of control.

You will continue to use Studio during your transition but eventually you will only consider it a tool.
