Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
I suppose I should have guessed! The DVD drive is no longer working again. I really don't like pestering my neighbour so I'm going to use Restore again to set back to yesterday. Before I hava another go at installing S10 tomotow morning can you advise which files I should deselect in the Custom Install so that I can avoid IDVDR and Media Manager please?

If Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager are in Control Panel/ Programs and Features then uninstall them there.

"I suppose I should have guessed! The DVD drive is no longer working again."
Before you restore your computer watch this video to see if you can solve that problem instead of restoring your computer. I have done this steps and it worked for me.
BTW, since you have been restoring your computer too many times already I think that your Studio 12 files are already corrupted. I would recommend to you to uninstall Studio 12 again and manually go to your c drive and remove/delete all pinnacle folders including the pixie files and re-install studio 12 again.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
@ David
Yes Peter, but isn't that very same serial number that S12 needs to see?
Yes, David, but Studio can leave many left-over Registry Entries, after Uninstalling it, that'll mess-up a Reinstall..
There used to be a complete Uninstall/Reinstall FAQ Step-by step procedure for doing that, including a Link to Pinnacle RegDelete Download..
I've Posted many Step-By-step Uninstall/Reinstall Procedures in the past, a few years-ago.
@ Mike
I'm going to use Restore again to set back to yesterday
IMO, that's your quickest option.
can you advise which files I should deselect in the Custom Install so that I can avoid IDVDR and Media Manager please?
S10's Program Delivery changed with succeeding different Released Versions.
I had S10.0 & Updated (Not Upgraded) to each succeeding Version. For those who inadvertently Installed InstantDVD Recorder & MediaManager/Server, the advice was to Uninstall them from ADD/REMOVE Programs. However it wasn't that simple, because different Versions had different ADD REMOVE Programs entries. Some of those entries were wrong.
S10 was a pig of a Program for many Users. IMO, considering what has transpired in this Thread so-far, you should not Install S10. If you want to continue Editing with S12, you need to succeed with the S10 Shift Key Method. I don't know why it doesn't work. Inspecting S10 & S12 Disks & Reconnecting your Keyboard & Mouse, would be a start (As already advised in my previous Posts).
Most of S10 problem-solving Posts (There are a lot), are mine. I see no point in wasting anymore time in attempting to Install S10. Even if it Installs ok, there's no guarantee that S12 will function correctly, since it's an Upgrade.
Have another look at Ramon's Video Tutorial & Try again. You're probably not doing it right.
I'm sure your PC Guru won't mind you approaching him again. PC Gurus like a challenge & demonstrating their skills

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Thanks Ramon but your post came after I'd restored my PC again. As I hadn't installed anything other than my part install of S10 from the previously suggested Download page I didn't think I had anything to lose. So far, I haven't been able to even attempt an install of S12 so there's nothing there to corrupt. As the S10 installation didn't work fully It was probably a good idea to remove it again anyway. Before I do anything else I think it's probably a good idea to use Pinnacle's S10 REGDELETE Registry Cleaner to make sure I don't have any left over Registry entries and have a clean slate. It's become clear that I need to install S10 from the Download page before using my upgrade S12 as something doesn't seem to work correctly the normal way, but I'd appreciate advice about how to avoid installing Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager as I couldn't see how to do that earlier.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Sorry if I'm going round in circles and wasting your time. I'll see if my neighbour is available tomorrow although I'm not sure he's so keen to show off his skills in that manner as it's his daytime job too although at a much higher level. Before I try again should I use RegDelete to get rid of any traces of the previous attempted installs?

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
I have never used the RegDelete to get rid of the files. I just do it manually by uninstalling everything pertaining with Studio XX and then entering into the c drive and deleting all files from pinnacle and also deleting the pixie file, restart my computer (optional) and finally install again my Studio XX program again and it works great with me.
BTW, you will get a new passport number but can still get your effects by regenerating your activation keys again.
or
Install Studio 10 and then Studio 12. Uninstall Studio 10 and repair again Studio 12 and I think that should do the trick too. I have versions 9 Plus up to Studio 14 installed and it does not bother me at all to have all programs installed. Maybe one day I might need a previous version to do some videos too. (optional for you to do)
Do not uninstall the Bonus DVD content

Yes - Run it 3 times. However, that shouldn't be necessary if you're selecting a System Restore Point prior to the first S10 Installation.
It also maybe that InstantDVD Recorder is responsible for S12 not automatically ejecting the Disk.
Or any other Drag-tp-Disk Programs you might have; EG; Roxio's "Drag To Disk" & Nero's In CD?.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Yet another update and review. Sorry about the length but I've
tried to cover every point, and I really do appreciate everybody's time. I'm
reckoned to be reasonably intelligent but I'm definitely not computer literate.
Although my neighbour has the general knowledge he doesn't know this programme
and I feel embarrassed to keep asking him:-
1.
My first computer restore the other day was
after my very first failed attempt to install Studio on this PC and I turned it
back to a date before the aborted attempt. That's why I was very surprised to
see my activation code automatically appear when I tried my second install.
2.
Every time I've tried to install there haven't
been any previous elements of S10/S12/Instant DVD Recorder/Media Manager etc. installed
so I can't see how they can be the cause of S12 not automatically ejecting the
disk. Nor do I have any other Drag-to-Disk Programmes.
3.
Until 2 days ago I didn't know the disk should
be automatically ejected. I've watched Ramon's video at least 6 times but it
wasn't clear on that.
4.
I've also confirmed my keyboard isn't at fault
as every time I click on OK when the S10 disk is called for during the
installation process it flashes and makes a pinging noise but there is no
action and it stays on screen. I've tried before I manually ejected the S12
disk, and after inserting S10 etc. but to no avail. Only the S10 Install dialogue
box appears with the option to start exe. or open folders etc. I've looked in
those folders and found ones titled Pixie (previously mentioned) and
Registration files etc. but none seem to give access to the page I need.
5.
My very first install of S12 years ago would
have been with S10 still installed. I've only reinstalled it a few times since
and can't remember the procedure I used. I found the current installation problem
when I encountered the audio problem last year and a reinstall didn't go well. I
finally installed the whole of S10 followed by S12 (although the audio problem
was still there afterwards). Those were all on my old XP PC.
6.
This morning, before using RegDelete, and on the
basis that my S10 activation code could still be on the system, I tried one
more install attempt but without success. My disks have always been kept in
their boxes and used quite rarely over the years but I inspected them and thoroughly
cleaned them but it didn't make any difference.
7.
I then ran RegDelete 3 times as suggested but without
any difference. Question: it asked if I wanted to ‘Remove Video Capture
Driver Entries?' - I was unsure so I didn't
check that box.
8.
Until we started investigating the audio problem
on my old XP PC last year I had no idea there had been problems with Instant
DVD Recorder or Media Manager and they had been on my system for years whilst I'd
edited many videos. I did have one or two issues over that period which might
have been caused by those items but they were always resolved by doing an
uninstall and reinstall. However, I'll delete them in future.
9.
I don't know if it's still relevant but I also checked
Ramon's second suggested video (after the excellent installation one) from an
earlier post but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
Unless there are any other ideas at the moment I can only
see 2 alternatives:-
a.
From the suggested website install the complete
S10 programme. Then install S12. Question 1: I presume I must
install the Vista Install element before S10 or does it do that automatically? Question
2: Should I delete Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager after S10
and before S12 or after the complete install?
b.
If that causes any problems use system restore
yet again and install S15 which is definitely a substitute. Question
3: Can I then install my S10+ TE Bonus Disk etc, S12 Ultimate extras and Hollywood

Thanks for your Post, Mike
I have a long-overdue video to complete & get Uploaded to Vimeo & Embedded on the Reallusion iClone Forum. I hope to have that done by Wednesday morning. Then I'll concentrate on your list.
In the meantime:
As previously Posted, I don't like the idea of Installing S10, for reasons already given. However, if Installing S10 is the only way of Installing S12, then that's the Route you'll have to take.
IMO, S10.0 to S10.5, had 2 Program CD Disks & 1 Bonus Content DVD. S10.6 had 1 Program DVD that replaced the 2 CDs. Please confirm if you have 2 Program CDs or 1 Program DVD.
We're only interested in Installing S10 Program. Forget about the Bonus Content DVD & any other Disks that came with 10.5 Titanium Edition.
Post Screenshots of what S10 Displays, when you select Custom Install. You don't want to Install InstantDVD Recorder & MediaManager un-necessarily.
Post Screenshots of your ADD/REMOVE Programs. (You might need to split it, depending upon the number of Installed Programs.)
We need to be satisfied that all traces of S10 have been Removed from your PC, before Reinstalling S10. More of that, later.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
To add to what colour says, the Vista Installer is quite large and is IMO the Vista version of S10. That is all you need to install for the program. It will be compatible with Win 7. At one time I did install S10 on W7 but at the same time I had S14 so did not use S10 except just to try it.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Colour, please don't spend any more valuable time on this until you've finished
your project.
But when you have time, for your reference my S10.5.1 consists of 2 programme
disks plus a Bonus disk, although my plan was to install S10.6 from the website
provided.
I can't show a screenshot of the Custom Install list as it was part way
through the install from the Download I did yesterday and I'm not 100% sure which
route to take for that now, although David thinks the Vista Installer is the
actual programme for S10 on Vista/W7. If I pluck up enough courage I'll try it
again. Obviously, I'm wary of going too far with the S10 disk itself.
In the meantime, I've shown the files listed below if I select Files as
opposed to Welcome.exe when the S10 disk is installed after S12, in case there
is a route from there which will take me just to the activation screen.
I've also shown below the screen shots (3) of my current programmes although
these are presumably only the 64 bit ones. I'm not sure how my neighbour
managed to show the 32 bit ones but that was where we found the Studio ones last
time. They hadn't been shown on the standard programme list. I'll have to post the others screen shots separately.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Mike, I don't know where you are trying to go with all this. The size of my S10 program disc is 2.78 GB. In it is a Studio Vista Installer folder which is 1.39 GB. In other words there are two versions of the program on the disc, the XP version of 1.39 GB and the Vista version of 1.39GB. Your S10.5 version is for XP only and not compatible with Vista (W7). You have downloaded the Vista version from jjn and that is what you should install. Does that make sense to you.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Thanks David, I was simply trying to answer Colours questions about what was shown on my programme list etc. I do understand what you're saying but Colour has recommeded that I don't install S10 because it has caused problems, especially Instant DVD and Media Manager. As my S12 is an upgrade I've been following the recommended route (also shown on Ramon's video) to install S12, get a prompt to enter the S10 disk purely for the activation key, then after a swap for that, carry on with S12 only. But after I install the 10 disk I don't get the S10 activation page, no matter what I do. I also had problems yesterday trying to install S10 from my web download but on reflection I think that was because I probably didn't go down the right route - I didn't realise that Vista install was the actual S10 programme and probably clicked on Application instead which was probably the XP version again.
Does that make sense? I get the impression you don't think I'll have any problems installing S10 from the website and then upgrading that to S12, and possibly deleting IDVDR and Media Manager afterwards, but I think Colour's keen for me to avoid any S10 installation.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
I understand what you are trying to do which, if possible, is to install only S12. Colour and Ramon have given you plenty of information on how to do this. All my Studios are full versions and I have no need to upgrade. I will say though that my understanding (but I could be wrong) was that the S10 disc only had to be inserted for recognition. In later versions of Studio there is the option of entering the serial number instead of inserting the disc. If you cannot install S12 alone then the second option is pre installing S10. To do this you must use the Vista Installer version. I hope I have not been confusing you.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Hello Mike, I once installed Studio 10 in my windows 7 desktop and had problems with the original installation disc. Try first by installing Studio 10 Vista Installer (the one you just downloaded) it should be the same as your original you have. All you need to do is enter your activation key and that will do the trick. Next install the other discs you have for Studio 10 including the Bonus DVD content. Once done you can install Studio 12 as usual and install all discs you have with Studio 12 and finally at the end just use the transfer content to install the contents for Studio 10. Finally and optional for you to do is to uninstall Studio 10 from your computer (but I would not recommend it) and repair studio 12 again. NOTE: Do not remove all other discs from Studio 10 from your computer. Just uninstall what was in disc 1 (Vista Installer). Do not remove the contents of disc 2 and bonus dvd content.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Thanks for both your commenst/suggestions, they're very much appreciated. Before I do anything else I will just wait to also hear Colour's further comments. I don't have any urgent video editing to do although having spent so much money for this new PC I am keen to find out if it's solved the previous audio problem - which was one of the main reasons for getting it!

Might be an issue with either audio card update, install Studio 12 patch or some other hardware (audio) issue.

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
I don't remember if you were involved in my other thread 'Distorted Audio In Timeline' but it's still open if you want to spend about 3 hours reading it. I suddenly got an audio problem with Studio on my old XP PC. We tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling S12 (with problems then with S10 auhtentication), removing Instant DVD Recorder and Medai manager, changing the audio card for a brand new one, patches, etc. etc. but we couldn't solve it. It was there even on Studio's own demo videos in S10, 12 and even 15. In the end it was decided it had something to do with the computer and with the demise of support fror XP and other things I bit the bullet and had a new PC built. I'm obviously hoping it's gone now!

Re: ADVICE WANTED FOR NEW W7 PC FOR S12
Colour had asked me to send a screnshot of the Custom Install on S10 to see if we could identify Instant DVD Recorder and Media Manager and eliminate them from any further installation of S10 but I was nervous about going too far down the installation route until I knew which was the safest version to use. After being advised that 'Vista Installer' on the webiste download of S10.6 TE should be the correct one for W7 I opened the file again to start the installation to get to the Custom Install page, but I can't now find any .exe files to open the programme for installation at all. I somehow started the wrong one before whcih we established was probably the XP version and I had to do a system restore in order to remove it, but I can't even see how I did that now. I've attached 1 screenshot of the opening files here, followed by 2 more on the next 2 posts. I'd apprecaite any advice on how to start the Vista download. P.S. Vista Installer here is 1GB whereas I think David expected it to be 1.9GB
