    GadgetHerder:
Disc Menu and chapter creation appears to work correctly, but during render process of first few frames (progress window) and in output, an opaque green screen overlays all the chapter thumbnails and titles, making the chapter selection process impossible in both set-top DVD player and computer DVD player.
Have a look at THIS post. All threads referring to the green screen of death have been deleted in this forum,  but you can sometimes get some relief by playing around with settings mentioned in the post.

    GadgetHerder:
I am looking to purchase an AGP 8x card to replace the AGP card currently in the Sony Vaio PCV-RZ32G.
Drop down to THIS post. I think it's probably the minimum card that works well with S11, however I've been quite satisfied.

    GadgetHerder:
Any recommendations (or any advice on fixing the "green screen" of death)?
I think the most common answer lies in THIS thread.

It's getting hard to to find AGP cards retail. It's worth looking on ebay.

    Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knew if the ATI Radeon X1250 works ok?

This chip is on the Toshiba Laptop  L305D-S5895.

    Here are the laptop specs....

    AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-60  2.0Ghz , 1MB L2 Cache.

    AMD M690G chipset

    3 Gigs memory

The ATI Radeon X1250 uses 128 - 631 MB dynamically allocated shared memory.

    Thanks!

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

I've been using Nvidea Gforce 7600 GT on Studio 9, 11 and 12.

It ran slow on 12. I just upgraded to ATi Radeon HD4870 1 Gig DDR3 RAM and its a dog!  (dam it!  - looks like my son gets a high end gaming card)

Boris Grafiti sees it as an inferior card and and tells me I need to upgrade to a card with more RAM. !!!  Hello, I've got 1 Gig, how much more do you want?

Standard transitions real time ok. After render has been done on heavy effects it works fine. When I re open the project everything works real time - no rendering needed

Magic Bullets tells me the same thing. It work with the program (Studio 12), but very little runs in real time. I guess the card is too new and is unsupported. !?

Tried the  Pinnacle 3D ap, came up with serious errors message, but didn't list them.

I am going some to try it with a Nvidea 8800GT. My son seems to think it works ok on it.

I'm sorry, the tired but necessary question - have you got the very latest drivers? It sometimes takes a while for the drivers for new cards to be fully sorted out, particularly the finer points that are used in video editing. The fact that 3 different apps are having issues points that way, perhaps?

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

One of the really nerving things with Graphic Card drivers is the question of where they come from.

While ATI and Nvidia are the 2 major manufactures of most cards available, companies like MSI, ASUS and others are selling cards using these chips.

Some of the cards are 100% ATI or Nvidia, others have beem modified in one way or the other by the OEMs.

Knowing just which driver to install isn't always as easy as it may seem at first glance.

If you have an OEM card - one sold in a box with MSI, ASUS or whatever printed on it, then it may not hurt to check out the driver download site of the company whose name appears on said box and install the latest driver that they have on offer.

Most of these drivers are at least 1 version "older" than those currently available from the major chip companies, but may work better with the given card.

    Just something to think about.Geeked

Right on Gerry. I too think deciding on which video card to purchase to be about the biggest conundrum time and time again when configuring a new system or upgrading (as I'm thinking of doing soon).

I'm partial to ATI cards and was advised quite a while back to buy only true OEM ATI cards to avoid problems. So apparently that advice would still hold true?

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

Graphics Card: Saphire ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 (2Gb)

Driver:: Catalyst Control Centre 08.10 (download of .net 3.5 has removed CCC instability)

    Operating System: Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1 (4GB 1066 Corsair / Phenom 9850 @ 2.5Mhz)

Studio Version: Studio 12 Ultimate with StudioPatch12_1_3_6605a

Results: Now renders perfectly after installing CCC 8.10, Previously found render error on CCC 8.8 & 8.9.

Comments: Transistions still have exclamation in preview but this appears to be more to do with editing in AVHCD format as it does not happen in HD MPEG2.  After installing CCC 8.10 with and the latest Studio patch i can successfully render 1 hour 40 mins of Sony SR12 AVHCD 1920x1080p 25fps containing over 400 effects and transisitions in around 2 hours 40 mins to a 25Gb BD-R Blu-Ray in (file first) Safe Mode.  I could never acheive this with previous S12 & CCC versions.   EDITING speed is seemless.

Note:  would recomend uninstalling CCC 8.9 then installing .net 3.5 SP1 then clean installing 8.10 (this fixes any messages or issues launching CCC)

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

I just purchased a dell desktop which has 6g ram and Q8200 processor along with vista nd an ATI 3450 video card. I haven't installed Studio 12 ultimate yet and wondering if the card will even work with studio. Since video cards have a short retail life before as new ones are released so regularly... could someone come up with a list of high priced to low of which ones I should be looking for. My old computer is 5 years old so I may have not kept up on things.

    regards

I can not see why the card won't work. Pick a price point of how much you are willing to spend and then decide on the card. Right now.. ATI is the better low to high end cards.

    Ref. Edward1952 question:

I have all latest drivers and BIOS's except CCC 8.10 due the issue with 8.12 on Crossfire and X2 cards.  AMD say this will be fixed in CCC 9.1 likely Jan 09.

Out of interest if you try to launch CCC does anything happen ?

The Nvidia 8800GT solved some problems for me with 2 video editors of which one was Studio.

I'm running  an nVidia GeForce  9800 GT 1GB that works great so far (new system)

I had been running dual in SLI prior to one card failing due to the way they had the card installed (fan on the dead one contacted the other card and the card overheaded and failed. I am waiting on the replacement card to get in to reintall (using a spacer to keep the fan off the other card.

    Cheers

NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX (1Gb - non SLI) as received on new system (laptop) Nov 08, not yet updated any drivers, nor played with Nvidia control panel settings.  Works well.  The only problems I've had with S12 U is that the display resolution has to be dropped to 16 bit to enable editing of Titles in S 12, and jerky video in HDV, which required lowering bitrate from 2500 to 2000.

Radeon X1650SE  Graphics/Video Card - (updated drivers yesterday.)

Running Vista Home Premium (32 bit).

    Ram: 4GB

Using: Pinnacle Studio Ultimate V12 + Update Patch.

NO PROBLEMS at all playing DVD's, palying games (Microsoft Links 2003 Golf Game) or Editing my home videos.

BUT - Having problem with Panasonic HD Writer (also updated from web) - (see previous threads):-

My videos taken with my Pansonic HDC-SD5 Video Camera, only opens in the "middle third" of the HD Writer Preview screen.

Runs OK in Windows Media Player, and in Studio V12.

Have tried ALL the suggestions received from Forum Members, but to no avail. Also carried out all the recommendations from my Computer (HP) Diagnostic web site.

It appears no one knows the answer to why this happens or how to correct it.

Re: Which Graphics Cards Work? Which Don't? Please Add Your Experiences!

ATI Radeon 4670 graphics card with 512 mb memory, Vista 64 bit,  Intel Quad 6600, 4gb memory

I just bought this video card to replace my Intel onboard video hoping to solve several problems I have with Studio 12. The main problem is rendering the menus at the beginning of the movie. The menus start to render OK but turn into a green screen before the menu is completed. After many tries I can usually get the menus to render correctly and sucessfully make the video.

So far,  the new video card hasn't improved the process. The "check 3d" test failed on the old onboard video and the new 4670.

I can't enable the hardware acceleration option on either video card. I set the option but when I return to the menu the option is disabled.

The new video card seems to improve and speed up other programs, but Studio 12 seems to have many issues.

My Vista index for video improved to 5.9/5.8  from the previous 3.5/4.2. so I think the new card is an improvement to my system but I still have not found a solution to my Studio 12 problems.
